The Vegetarian Debate: is a meat-free lifestyle healthier?

In my opinion, we are not animals. Thats what makes us different from them. We are higher evolved creatures..and I personally feel that makes us more responsible, we should be more compassionate and take care of those who are not at this level. Of course, humanity is a failure and isnt anywhere near what it could be so thats besides the point.
 
^^ Well yes, vegetarianism makes sense environmentally. We have seen the results of large-scale carnivorism on the human side, but there seems to be a need for a herbivoric balance, as in nature.

Please read up on this. We are animal. We are primates, and they are animals. We are much more alike than we are different. We also only specualte on what the differences are as far as consciousness and spirit.

It seems a bit arrogant, your statement that we should take care of those who are not at this level. For instance I think many animals act more compassionate and moral than most humans.

The American Indians honored the animals they ate. We do not. Vegetarians often make alot of moral judgement on meat eaters. I think I can make just as strong of a moral case against them. So I don't. Instead I try and look at what I can learn and try to apply that to a healthy lifestyle that benifits all.

Sorry, but your opinion is wrong. We are nothing but animals. Your reasoning seems to be that we use tools, build things, worship gods, this makes us more than the rest of the creatures on this planet. In reality, all these things are destroying our planet, how smart. I think perhaps we are the dumbest of the animals, because were ruining it for ourselves.

I strongly advise you to get your head out of your ass and into a science text.

My head is far from my ass...maybe you should direct the first part of that comment to yourself.

Yes, our bodies are bodies just like the animals.
And you are right most of humanity is as stupid as most animals, moreso even.
I do not include myself and many others in this lot though.

What I mean is that we are MORE than animals. We obviously are the rulers of this planet. It is up to US to protect it. Many people care a great deal about this, yet the majority is so selfish and stupid they dont even think about it.

By your logic, if we are the same as animals, what right do we have to raise other animals who are ON OUR LEVEL for our food? Most people who think this is okay go with the "animals were put here to feed us" logic.

We have the capabilities to change things, but we dont. Its very sad. If you are concerned about the planet being destroyed, you should want our societies to do everything more effeciently, including EATING. I believe a post has already been provided (in this or the "add years through diet") thread about the amount of land it takes to feed a person who eats meat as opposed to not eating meat.

I wasnt speaking about out physical bodies when I said we are not animals so I dont need to read up on anything. Im well aware of our physical make up. There was nothing arrogant about my statement, you took me wrong (Im speaking to URB4UR now sorry). I absolutely agree that many animals are MUCH more compassionate and moral than most humans. I believe the intelligent, compassionate etc. should work together to help anyone below our level..human, animal, it doesnt matter.

I dont really see why Im being attacked here. If humans were the same as any other animal, I dont think we would rule the world.

One more time..just to reinforce what I meant by this..

Im only speaking of the fact that we are evolved into a worldwide society..our communication and knowledge and power to continue learning is much more than any other creature here on this planet..thats why we rule it. I believe with great power comes great responsibility, and we have the knowledge and understandings about diet to make that change worldwide. Every person (if they wanted to) could make the choice never to eat meat again. Im not saying every person should do that..but humans could care a LOT more than they do about the planet and other creatures that live here.
 
Still you're implying that if you eat meat you don't care about the planet.

I care alot about this planet. More then some vegetarians I'll bet. Population control would be a much more effective way to help the planet IMO. Meat eating is healthy and I've made that point and given my reasons all along here.

I also care alot about animals, I volunteer at the animal shelter and help dogs and cats find loving homes. I care enough about animals that I walk and drive my car less than 1000 miles a year. And that mileage is for vacations not to the quickie mart. Just so you realize I'm a meat eater who cares.

How about you not having any children. If you care about the planet you could do that. I'm not saying you should but people just don't care about the planet like they should. They think every one else should practice birth control. See what I mean.

I EAT MEAT ! I am NOT implying that! Im talking about the way our society is as a whole..thats all.

I absolutely agree about population control. Hell yea! I advocate zero population growth..which is saying no one should be able to have more than two children..one for the mother and one for the father..these people who have 10 kids are ridiculous..that really adds up when you consider the kids they have and so on. And I dont have any kids..I really would prefer to only have one once I reach my thirties..never more than two.

=D I'm sure it's been done often enough. You make a good point. Being on top of the food chain we might come to think of ourselves as something other than prey; but not to a hungry grizzley bear.

We are not better than the animals we kill for food. Or anything for that matter. Life on this planet evolved with animals killing each other for food. We are an animal. I've been in grizzly country and it's an erie feeling. Something everyone should experience as a meat eater. Also I think meat eaters should go out and kill something first hand. Gut it, skin it, cook it, eat it. Then you might have some perspective of what you're doing eating meat. It's a worthwhile experience.

I think every meat eater should experience this. It's a whole lot more thought-provoking than buying a double-cheeseburger at McDonalds.

Ive been slowly cutting it out for the past year now..first pork, then beef..ill cut back on chicken next then probably stop eating it all together...
If I was starving I could kill a chicken easier than a cow or a pig..now I cant even barely digest cow..it feels horrible in me.
 
It's in your head my friend. Not your heart. There is not a spiritual difference between a chicken and a cow.

By the way you have just contradicted your previous statement that you could never kill anything.

It's not easy to believe what you say when this happens. You need a reality check with your ability to tell yourself the truth about how you really are.:)
