The ultimate gamer thread, aka 'Geek my Forum'

I'd buy a 360 for:
Gears of War
Halo 3
Alan Wake

Everything else is just a bonus, really.

I'm hugely biased though, and just want Cell/Sony to fail miserably.

Games
There is bugger all and most out there are just nasty ports of last generation technology with pretty pictures.
Xbox is drawing the usual suspects of FPS style games but expect a lot of wacky-but-cool japanese games to be PS3 only. Depends what sort of games you like?
Xbox arcade is the best of both right now

Graphics
In raw power Xbox its superior to PS3, but the PS3 has a LOT more processing potential so it could do some amazing dynamic stuff (in a few years when people figure it out)

Load speed
PS3 is 20% slower

Other
Both are online crazy. Xbox live will be more usable and polished

Right now?
Id buy a wii

Great advice. Thanks heaps. ;) I currently have the original xbox, my brother has a PS2. I've always preferred xbox although there are some games I wish they had such as GTA. :(

I think I'll go ahead and buy a 360 now, its even better because they only cost around $500 as apposed to $1k. :D

gta4 is not going to be a staggered release like the others - it'll be released simultaneously on the 360 and ps3

would love a wii over ps3 or xbox360

the game play is just pure fun.

who do i have to kill to get one ?

If you killed me you could probably steal mine.

But I won't go down without a fight!

Call of Duty (CoD) was my main game (and CoD:UO as an aside), but since CoD2 was released it has died the inevitable death of so many 'older' games. Even got into the GameArena finals once which was nice. Played over 2000 hours of the thing online, which is kinda sad :p

Started playing CoD2 but my old comps mobo died and so I am just trolling forums etc. when I get a chance at net cafes etc. :( Saving for a new cgaming rig atm.

I've nearly finished Gears of War, can't remember if I posted about it before in this thread or not but great game.

The xbox 360 is great machine - i've been playing cod2 , finished GoW and got my sights on Dead Rising when I finished COD2. There is a new version of the Xbox 360 which is a lot quiter than the current models - it's got a Liteon drive instead of hte Hitachi / Phillips drives which are hell noisy. Look for that one if you can.

The Ps3 will be a freaken awesome machine too..in 12 months. There aren't that many great titles on it right now - maybe Resistance ane Motorstorm but in a years time, there will be some great games available.

Wii is awesome too...the fact that it's basically sold in Aus would vouch for that. My brother's got one and Zelda is a very nice game but I'd wait for Super Mario Galaxy before I buy mine.

Finally - downloadedable content.

Wii - Super Mario Contra!!!!
Xbox Arcade - Double dragon!!!!

If you can afford all three...but them. good times ahead for us console fans.

Me..I've been playing Elite Beat Agents on my Nintendo DS lite - great great game.

The name of that game reminds me of one of my favourite games ever Little Big Adventure. Beating up random citizens was so much fun :)

You kick arse Twinsen!

250px-Twinsen.jpg

Twinsun is a relatively new planet on the outskirts of a remote galaxy. Its rotational plane has stabilized between two suns. There is a huge mountain range running along its equator, that divides the planet in half: each hemisphere is warmed by a single sun. The Northern hemisphere, with its orange sky, is warmer than the Southern hemisphere. Except for a polar region, the planet's climate is clement. The formation of life forms on the planet was thus favourable. Four species developed over the course the centuries: the Spheros, the Rabbibunnies, the Quetches and the Grobos. They all lived in harmony until a tyrant named Dr Funfrock reared his ugly head.

Ever since Funfrock's rise to power, the population has been living under a reign of terror. FunFrock set up a police state where suspicion is omnipresent. He is all powerful and controls the people with an iron fist. He has at his disposal two high-tech weapons that ensure his power: cloning and teleportation. FunFrock can clone any of the species at will, and subsequently recruit these clones into his ranks. He can then deploy these clones instantly through a network of telepods that are dispersed over the entire planet.

A few years ago, under the guise of protecting the population, Dr. FunFrock herded the planet's habitants* into the southern hemisphere. The repression is harsh. Every day brings more and more arrests, and the people slowly begin to lose hope. In an effort to keep their spirits up, the people sometimes evoke an ancient legend along with the name of a goddess, Sendell. The mentioning of the legend or Sendell has since been forbidden by Dr. FunFrock.

Meanwhile, a young quetch named Twinsen has been having strange dreams.

counter strike addiction way back in the day. quake 1 before that.

now its battlefield 2 .. stricktly airman.. i am def an ace.

now heres my question.. is the air sim in BF2 at all similar to flying a real jet?

^^no bioshock, alan wake or one of those other cool games that i can't remember? halo3? cnc3?

^^^motiv, if its anything like 1942, yes.
identical. you could jump right into a jumbo and fly to london. or a superhornet.

yes.

I've started playing Day of Defeat (1.3, not Source) again lately. Before the last 6 months I'd only ever played it at the odd lan every month or so about 4 years ago. Only game I play online besides the odd ET game if I can catch a good ping (unfortunately the best I seem to get in Aus is 250, and that's real good).

I always start late with games.

I've just come out of a big Rome: Total War addiction, wouldn't mind giving Medieval II a spin. Playing through System Shock 2 again also. Been installing lots of oldies lately.

mass effect

Would like to play this, unfortunately it's for Xbox only. I'm looking forward to Spore, besides that I don't really know what's coming out this year, haven't kept myself informed much lately, with my eyes cast backwards. Really need to update my 512 into 2GB.

as soon as i see a demo of bioshock that doesn't hold your hand the entire way through the scene, i'll get excited

halo3 & alan wake = show me a gameplay video AT ALL and i'll get psyched

guess we'll be waiting on all 3 counts then. :p
I have to say that Alan Wake is jizzworthy on so many levels. I'd expect no less from Remedy though.

Alrighty.

After trying to install UT2k4 the other day, i just found out disc 4 is bung. good ol' CRC error. yay. yes, the disc is scratched to fuck.
we have the 6 cd install discs, as oposed to the dvd version.
and i've had trouble finding a torrent with the 6 discs, such that i could just DL the disc that's stuffed.

this is a game that needs to be installed properly; i can't just copy files across from a PC with the game already on it, as it turns out :(

can anyone help out, either with the disc or a torrent they can point me to??

(and hurry up with the 2007 version!)

EDIT : found a registry editer to make it work. all good :)

When I first bought my Xbox I got Jet Set Radio Future packed in with it. This game fckn rocks my socks off. I love it. But unfortunately I lost it and wasn't ever able to track it down.

I just got a copy of it shipped over from the UK. So excited to get into it on my new gigantic flat screen tv. Omg, I bet it's gonna be really intense to play while tripping too. The graphics are cel shaded so it looks fantastic bitches.
