WATCH OUT FOR THE CROCODILES DUDE!

I've been playing Blade Runner on the PC. I only saw the movie for the first time recently and have heard the game compliments it well.

I also bought Smash Bros for the Wii because I needed a four player game for pre going out drinking sessions.

Gamers gouged
July 17, 2008

Online and offshore is the cheapest place to get your fix, says Jason Hill.

An investigation into video game prices has found that Australians can buy software for less than half price by importing.

The Xbox 360 blockbuster BioShock for example, is $109.95 at EBGames yet it's just $48.57 including postage from the Hong Kong online retailer Play-Asia.com.

Avid Reservoir gamer James Dominguez, 34, compiled the research after reading many articles about the high price of Australian software compared to overseas outlets.

He scoured the shelves at Australian retailers including JBHi-Fi, EBGames and Harvey Norman, comparing their prices on popular formats to local and overseas online outlets such as GamesWarehouse, Chaos, Play-Asia and SuperUFO.

He found the average price of a selection of critically acclaimed PlayStation3 games at Australian shops was $106.22, which compared poorly with Asian online outfits that offered the same games at an average price of $69.38 including postage.

Similarly, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii games were on average $30 cheaper from overseas online outlets (although there may be incompatibility issues).

The gap between hand-held games prices was narrower but Australians still saved an average of $21 and $10 on Nintendo DS and SonyPSP games, respectively, by importing.

Surprisingly, the research found Australian online outlets on average were even more expensive than "bricks and mortar" shops when buying NintendoDS, PSP, Xbox360 and Nintendo Wii games, only coming out in front on PS3 software. But the average "buy it now" price on eBay Australia was much lower than Australian online shops.

When Mr Dominguez's research was published on The Age's Screen Play blog last month, many gamers voiced their concerns that Australian prices were much higher than some parts of the world, particularly the US and Asia.

"If an individual consumer can import the exact same product significantly cheaper than buying locally, something is broken," wrote Peter Henderson. "I ran an online video game retailer for a couple of years. I can certainly confirm that the margins aren't great for most Australian retailers. The distributors set the RRP and are to blame for the significant (price) gouging of (Australian) gamers."

Screen Play reader Christian Maruthiah was one of many who said the research would change his buying habits.

Yeah no way I'd buy a game from EB or where ever. I'd be happy to contribute to the Australian economy if the prices were comparable though.

I am an avid gaymer and horribly addicted to my Wii I purchased about four months ago.
If anyone has a spare 10 bucks, there is a WiiWare game called Magnetica Twist that is awsome.
I have played it so much, I shoot marbles in my sleep.8(

After half a year of ignoring it I've picked up Zelda: Twilight Princess again and I'm enjoying it a lot more now. Actually I can't remember what I didn't like about it. Now I don't want it to end.

the funnest part of game play is painting a bratz doll face in either bright green or electric blue and changing up their limited wardrobe into trashy couture. its fucking horrible.
