Edde, if you're just travelling in South East Asia, then your grand and a half might just be enough for 4 months if you lived pretty damn modestly, and the pound gets stronger in the next month or two. Add in Singapore and Malaysia, n start paying slightly more luxury prices or doing activities which cost, and it might get a bit harder. I'm not saying it'll be impossible, no way... it'll be an experience at least, you can always use a credit card as backup and do some coldcalling to beg a bit of cash....
You do have to bear in mind the weakness of the pound at the moment tho, as well as the fact that lots of the places you're going are pretty humming with the tourist trade, and prices aren't as low as they used to be. Somewhere like Phuket, the locals know how much westerners can afford and still view it as "cheap", n trust some people really splash their money out there (to all the wrong people of course...) n push costs up.
It's worth considering you "might" have to try and change flights, and make sure you have some emergency money to do this, as companies like STA kinda rip you off.
Sounds like a fucking good experience though, you'll have a wicked time! I'd scamper out of Singapore asap though, cos it's gona drain a fair bit of cash, and from what i've heard it's not the most exciting place!
