'proud to be an american, where at least i know im free'

lol...

This is why the world loves America and spontaneously and continually champions her as a bastion of democracy and the greatest defender of freedom, for all humanity!

I must be going completely mad, but who here went to the Seychelles, or was it Mauritius? Nah I'm pretty sure it was the Seychelles.

Anyway I've been looking at both places (plus others closer to home) for a wedding. Are the prices (food and accom) as extravagant as the Maldives, or are they a bit more reasonable? Reasonable to get there from the UK (eg flying time and prices?)

I'm probably dreaming. :(

I've been to the Seychelles, in 2006.

It's quite pricey when you get there, and hotels are not particularly cheap. It was defo one of my more expensive holidays. We flew there via Qatar, with Qatar Airways. I think it was about 10 hours in total.

If Kid went it was uber expensive, he wips his arse with £100 notes for fun. ;)

Aye. I use £1mio bearer bonds when I need to wipe my ass for non-fun reasons. ;)

It wasn't my most expensive holiday ever, but was number two on the list.

I think on next years travel list for me will be The Netherlands, Belgium, Possibly France and the USA... Its a pretty light year I know, only 4 countries.

Mines will hopefully either be Oz or USA. Or if I'm feeling adventurous South America.

^ I vote South America Spade! :) been thinking about it, but it's no something I could do in 3-4 weeks. It is just not enough time.

Really would like to see some of Russia and Mongolia.. ditto with the time thing tho' At the moment I'm saying no long haul next year, but I always say that 8)

Aye South America would be the ultimate trip for me however I think for my first big solo trip somewhere where English is the spoken language would be better.

For South America I reckon I'd need to be fluent in Espanol which I do plan to learn but still imagine it'd be much more difficult. Maybe that's a good thing though. :)

I'd like to visit pretty much everywhere, including Russia & Mongolia.

^me too Spade, the world's just too big and time is running out!

The language thing has never put me off - I get by fine and usually pick up the lingo better when I'm there.

Russia never interested me until the last 6 months or so. I have met to many people who have said that St. Petersburg was awesome, and by far their fav place in Russia. Only thing is that with an aussie passport you have to buy an expensive visa i believe.

visa for Russia needed for UK folks too. Aye, they're an additional cost visas are, it's all these wee hidden extras that add up. Like vaccinations, malaria stuff, airport bloody carparking..

I desire to visit the Moscow underground.

My dad went to Argentina on his own for a month. He is fluent in Spanish, mainly Latin American Spanish, they are differences. He said Argentina you can get by with only some Spanish.

He went to Mexico city for the Christmas (Not the resorts, that's not experiencing real Mexico!!) a couple of years after and came home and said if I wanted to go I would need to make sure I was at least confident with enough spanish to get me out of any siatuation.

I agree with Spade, the more rural places in SA i'd say it's essential to speak spanish.

You say Mongolia like it's an odd place to want to go, but it has so much interesting history and culture. Literally number one on my list of places I have to go to.

It's the nomadic culture, the contrasting landscapes from the Gobi desert to the mountains, the Mongole Empire, Genghis Khan and the whole Tibetan Buddhism thing going on.

With Mongolia that is.

I'd like to stay in a yurt too.

Gers, I didn't realise they were called that.

It looks an interesting hotpot of cultures and influences. The people - as in facial structures etc, also look very beautiful.

When I was in Nepal I was struck by the beauty of the people. Such amazing faces and souls, I liked it so much.

I too will visit Mongolia one day.
