The travel thread

Posted on behalf of my missus.

Girlfriend and her mates went to America for two weeks. Spent a week in a nice big house on a golf course, 4 days on the strip in a nice 5* hotel, then to Huntington beach in LA for a couple of days before back to Vegas for a few more.
Because they're all under 21, they couldn't loiter at all when going through the casinos to their rooms or just to get out the other side, security following them everywhere lol.

Can't be bothered looking for just the best pics, all spread out about about 14 albums and 7 different peoples facebooks

Cheers eDDe, I defo want to go. But I think it would be best without my missus!

cunts take travelling too far, am i tho only person thats not interested in travellin round some shitty mocket part of the world???

Generally the only folk who are not interested in travelling ever are the boring, uneducated, close minded people who lack any ambition, adventure and drive. Either that or they've been there and seen it all. Which one are you? ;)

im just happy mate, dont need to see some manky part of india for fun, na'mean??

dont get me wrong, i can see why some people would want to travel, but i just dont see why every1 should want to, it just seems to be the in thing the now, go travelling in east asia & sleep on a cockroach infested mattress with some other gap year wankers. im quite happy where i am to be honest

Not into different experiences and seeing new places, learning about new cultures etc then?

There's only so much you can experience at home.

Nah mate people have been doing that for a long long time. ;)

It is ture that "Travelling" (especially in a gap year) is somthing irritating, pretentious, middle class wankers do as a matter of course. Like it's something they have to have on their CV to prove that they're all worldly, when all they did was go on an extended holiday with their parents cash.

It seriously is, and as amazing a time as I had in "cockroach infested lands" on the other side of the world, it probably comes off very boring, clichéd and pretentious to most other people, so I don't bother talking about it much. I know what I like tho, and it feels more worth it than spending the remains of my money on clothes n stuff I can't afford; latest shopping trip cost me £16 at Primark, cos Gap was too 'spensive. Fuck them all, it's all made in China by the same poor bastards; the less profit the middle-men are making the better, IMO!

Posessions don't bring me happyness. New experiences do. I can buy all the clothes, gadgets etc in the world but it doesn't excite me.

+1. I'm so tired of hearing little pricks crap on about how "amazing" everything was and how much they learned about 'cultures'. Like fuck, they just had a packaged experience on a well worn path. I've been all over the world since I was a little kid and as many "amazing tales" as I have, I rarely talk about it, because to others it means nothing, and comes accross as bragging. Nothing worse than listening to 2 travellers try to out-do each others "experiences".

Haha - like Scotland! 8o

Aye, I'm in wae the Spade and Riklet on this wan. But I have just come back from India and Nepal, so I would..:p

Depends on your reasons too - if you travel so you can use it for a status / show-off thing the so be it and that's what you'll get out of the experience. Some tho' have genuine interests in other places apart from where we were born and bred. :)

my view exactly

Put it this way if my parents could afford to offer me a lump sum of cash to go on a gap year I'd take it no problem. Whether you stick to well worn paths and it is just an extended holiday you'll still have tons of experiences and learn a lot.

In my view, you got to work on your travels to get a real experience of a place. Just sightseeing and getting pissed aint really what it's all about.

I disagree.

Working while travelling is 100% against why I'd go travelling in the first place. I go away to escape shit like work, studying etc and just to enjoy myself, relax and have fun.

Working gets in the way of the good times however I agree that to get a proper feel for a place you do need to live / stay there for a while and meet some locals etc instead of just a few nights in a youth hostel doing tourist stuff.

But unless you are working, it's unlikely you are going to meet any "real" locals, or locals who aren't involved in the tourist trade.

Whilst it's not brilliant to work, if you want to go away for a decent chunk of time you need some cash. And i'd rather be working abroad in a shitty job than at home! I did 2 and a bit years when I went and I reckon I worked for roughly 12 months of that.

That's not true Kid. Loads of ways to meet locals if you put your mind to it, couchsurfing community groups, hang out where locals do instead of touristy places and so on.

To me work is work, I don't see how working in a foreign country makes it any better than working at home. Either way it'll piss me right off. A year working whilst I'm sposed to be travelling / enjoying myself would drive me mad. :\
