The travel thread

Silly old man. :p

Nah we were the same coming home from Bali, we had to spend a few hours in Singapore and thought why didn't we arrange to spend a few nights here as well would have split the journey up and I'd love to see the place. Ah well. :)

Where did you go on your trip again Felix? Any plans for similar trips in future?

Hmm flight with RyanAir to Rome has just went down by 50% on the day I want to travel. Looks like it's a good thing I haven't booked yet. Now if only my daft mate would text me back and let me know what date he plans to arrive in Rome!

^ RyanAir are cunts. As are Easyjet. I refuse to fly with them unless there is no other choice. Have you checked BA? I went to Rome last year, and it was cheaper to go with BA than Easyjet!

^ Even when you add all the extra thieving charges from the low costs? I presume you aren't going from London which might make it more expensive.

Flying from Glasgow Prestwick.

Yesterday RyanAir were £110 all in to Rome, today it's £50 total. I thought flights were more expensive the later you left it?

What extra theiving charges are you talking about? £50 is the total price there surely can be nothing extra added....

hah, no doubt i've typed this out a dozen times. nothing too exciting and i would do it differently now: aberdeen > london > new york > san francisco > sydney > bangkok > london > aberdeen.

now i've done two largeish euro trips on the bike, i can't imagine doing anything else at the moment. unfortunately me being dole-scum for the past few months has probably put the kibosh on that this year, and it's getting harder to get everyone off work at the same time. but if things fall into place, we might manage a tour of ireland later this year. it looks ace.

i would love to tour round croatia, romania, russia... that area. and i'd also love to go coast to coast in the US. bike magazines write about fly/ride holidays in places like libya and alaska and... just everywhere. it all looks brilliant. :)

So where did you actually spend time in? NY, San Fran and Sydney aye?

I'd quite like to do NY.

You do realise that Crotia is nowhere near Russia aye? Got to be at least 1000 miles between them. Romania's not even that close either. :p

aye, i know that ye fud! :p i didn't mean all in the same trip.

and correct, just those three places. you really must experience NYC, it's amazing.

My flight to prague went down to £30 from £100! wtf is going on! That's what I get for actually being a little bit more prepared then usual!

Should be visiting Zagreb this summer, would love to head over to Bucharest as well but seeing as really want to end up in Germany probably better heading in that direction generally instead of making detours deep into the Balkans.

I'd definitely like to visit Russia at some point as well.

NYC is defo on the must visit soon list. With flights as low as £400ish I've suggested to my old man that maybe we should go at Christmas but I don't think he's keen. Doesn't like the idea of visiting the US of A and he reckons it'll be freezing at that time of year. I've also suggested Japan which he's much more interested in. I just need to find some money now or convince him to pay for it. ;)

Ho ho, you'll have fun!! Extra charges for checking in, extra charges for carrying hold baggage, extra charges for using a credit card, etc. They are cunts.

Try flying to NYC with Kuwait Air, i think they are dirt cheap at the moment. It is freezing in winter, but a quality city for sure. And the yayo is usually pretty good (although maybe not with your Dad!).

A week is a long time in Singapore, especially as it isn't the cheapest city in the world. I'd defo spend longer in Thailand and less time in Singapore.

Will spend more time in Thailand then

The reason I'm staying in Singapore is because I used that CouchSurfing website and someone offered me a sofa bed for up to 7 days

Seriously?!?

How can they charge you extra to check in seeing as everyone has to check in?

And charging you for having hold baggage? Do they expect everyone to just have hand luggage?

Insane! Hmmm.

Going off topic slightly you know what pisses me off, people with too big or too much hand luggage. You get told it's one peice of hand luggage per person and it has to be a certain size then you see folk struggling on the plane with 3 bags or huge trollies on wheels bigger than most folks suitcases that cannot really be classed as 'hand' luggage. On some of the BA flights I've been on recently people have had so much stuff that there's not enough room in the overhead compartments for everything. People need to end up stashing their bags half a mile away from where they're sitting because some folk bring too much bloody luggage!

You'll find people willing to put you up via CouchSurfing everywhere mate. I'll be using it whilst in Europe.

Shall be fun. :)

They expect you to check in on-line. And they expect you to only take hand luggage. They double whammy you if you take hold luggage, as you have to pay extra for this, and then as you have hold luggage you can't check in on-line, so you have to pay to check in at the airport!!

Airport check in is £4, first bag is £8, next bag is £16. This is per leg. And you are only allowed 15kg before you pay excess baggage charges.

I've never heard of that. Is that how Jeffrey Dahmer got his victims???;)

RyanAir sound like rip off cunts. I reckon it'll probably be cheaper still for me to use them. Even with an extra £12 added onto the price still considerably cheaper than everyone else.

15kg for baggage weight means nothing to me, I don't know if that's reasonable or not.

this is why they are cheap. you are capable of bringing the fare down to the bare minimum, if you want the minimum service. but if you expect BA levels of service, be prepared to pay a BA price. DUH! ;)
