24hrs? What kind of crazy layover did you have in Dubai?

Sharing food like this is common in Korea, as is sharing beer - we ordered a picture of the local tipple (Cass) which was pretty good. We had a few more glasses of beer and decided to call it a day.

This seems to be the norm in just about every country in the world except from here. A lot of Europe it's the same, pretty much standard in Asia and South America. I like doing it, you can try more food than just your own one dish, and it's more social unlike when we eat it's just about shoving the food into our fat faces as quick as possible.
 
It was roughly 24 hours from Airport to Airport

+2 hours in dub airport
+8 hours fliht to Dubai
3.5 hours layoverin Dubai
+ 10 hors to Seoul
 
I wanna take the family to Europe next year- Greece mostly but would like to see parts of the British Isles and The continent. Trying to pack that all in a month would be very difficult. There is always The Hawaiian Islands which are only a six hour flight and we don't have to deal with customs. Maybe Kauai will be the next place or Maui with a day in Molakai. Went to the big Island- thats cool as hell- active Volcano- Natural hot springs, and if you go at the right time youcan kick it on the beach or visit a rain forest with Mt Muana Kea covered in snow in the back drop- can visit both during the same day- can't say that about most places in the tropics. French Polynesia is on the list too, as well as Bali, Indo, Costa Rica, Thailand, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, most of the south pacific, and South Africa. But back to reality...To be young and single again preferably with a trust fund and sans a pesky heroin habit.:\
 
Clank clank... old thread dragging up from the depths. Has anyone been to Nigeria? Especially recently? Is it as bad as I suspect it is?
 
Don't know anybody who has been there for leisure, doesn't seem like likely holiday destination. One summer in London I did have a flatmate from Lagos, he was pretty safe we used to smoke weed in the kitchen, he used to make really nice rice, chicken and beans with some type of spicy spinach. Was good.

He said the place was a mess and very dangerous, kidnappings of wealthy people, robbings, etc. He was also very very Christian and went to church on sundays all suited up.
 
This wouldn't be for leisure, there would be armoured cars and guards, which sounds interesting, but would actually probably be horrible in real life.

A friend of mine's Nigerian. He's almost only got positive things to say about it but it doesn't sound like the most stable place in the world.

I went to Ethiopia last summer though (not that it's the same, but may as well mention it while we're on the topic of Africa), volunteered at an orphanage in Addis Abeba for 2 weeks, and I'd honestly recommend it to anyone. It was absolutely beautiful and an incredibly enriching experience. Probably the most worthwhile thing I've ever done tbh. I felt quite safe there, too, and everyone was quite nice to me despite the fact that my whiteness/blonde hair stood out, to say the least.
 
Right, I've got my op next week. Then I have to wait 6 months for a follow up. Then I'm off travelling. Its been put off too long.

Anyone (I'm looking at you Kenny) have any good info on places to share in Malaysia and the Philippines? Definitely heading for Sumatra but interested in any other beautiful places with flora/fauna/ anyone knows of? Otherwise I'm going to have to PM Rachamim :| re the Philippines.
 
I've just been travelling for 4 days at Butlins Minehead. Beautiful place.

Lots of Welsh about,but that's one of the joys of travelling, the mix of cultures.

As far as I understand do I need a Chinese Visa to get to Tibet ?
And if I have a current Multiple entry Visa to both India and Nepal will it be frowned on?

If I want to get in via Nepal do I do a midnight jaunt and surrender my passport to the nepalese at the border? this sounds insane and dangeorous( giving your passport away) but I have heard you actually have to do that , especially if your planning to go to some of the more religious places in Tibet ( which I am)

I would like to visit in August and need to get this shit sorted

From what I heard I need something called a Tibet Group Visa

Thanks to an inspiring MXE trip the other day, I've made plans for a trip around the Balkans for a week. I leave on Monday morning. Going to stop over for a day and night at Zagreb in Croatia, 2 days Sarajevo with a possible trip to Mostar in Bosnia, and then off for another 2 days to Belgrade in Serbia. Anyone been to any of these places? Decent clubs or pubs? Anything cool to see during the day outwith the standard tourist stuff? Found some cool hostels to stay at so I'm looking forward to meeting some people as well.
 
Been there a few years ago so my memory is a little foggy. Zagreb is a bit boring imo, I'd say a day and night is plenty of time there. There was this one club close to the central square, I think it was called Propaganda or something like it, which I enjoyed. It's on the first floor of an old building, the entrance is in an alley just off of one of the big streets leading from the square. Sarajevo is beautiful, I didn't go to a lot of clubs there but the bars are all clustered around the old city and most were nice. I did go to a club in some basement with what I believe was a picture of a black cat above the door, which was cool. I was there in summer and wasn't able to do any snowboarding but apparently the slopes and snow just outside Sarajevo are great (might go back there in december). Mostar was a bit of a tourist trap to be honest, although the story behind the bridge being rebuilt and all that of course is nice (apart from the bridge itself, there is hardly anything to see or do in the city). Belgrade is awesome, plenty of clubs everywhere in the centre but I forgot their names. It might come in handy to learn the cyrillic alphabet, that way you'll be able to read the street signs and navigate the city more easily.. It helped me find my way quite a few times, but maybe it's not all cyrillic anymore nowadays.
 
been to most of the places you mentioned... quite recently actually

careful if you re driving, theres greencard needed and stuff like that in bosnia... look it up before if it is the case

zagreb is nice, plenty of time 1day and night, nothing too much to see just building and a laid back atmosphere. good pubs for beer, a large variety of it too, mainly local brews. had me some wonderful red beer.
zadar and pula are also very nice croatian cities, and dubrovnik is a destination itself, though a bit far off probably

sarajevo is interesting and filled with history.. still scarred from the war... again 1 day and night might be enough... the museums were closed a couple of months back due to some govt thing. everything interesting is in the old town, which really comes alive at night. great food in some city joints (street food). didnt party there so cant comment though.
mostar havent been but seemed a bit far to be worth it. maybe look into jajce? its closer and toruisty too...

belgrade is awesome though, at night it feels like a youthful city, pretty girls most o the time, and even on a tuesday or wednesday the streets are alive as if it were friday. you can do with a normal alphabet now, too. theres some places to visit, and it sould have a nice air to it. go on trip advisor for food recommendations. had a wonderful meal at a place called "?" (question mark). accomodation might be a bit iffy as it still feels a bit communist here and there. they have a main artery of pedestrian streets and most sights are on it so its quite easy to navigate.
zemun is part of belgrade now, and might be worth a visit.
novi sad is 2 hours drive away and might be interesting to check out.

Excellent, thanks for the info guys. Yeah Zagreb is more of a stop over point as I'm travelling from Budapest and the train journey is about 7 hours. I arrive early afternoon so will have the day and evening. A nice, laid back city is my cup of tea, so I reckon I would enjoy it there. Yeah I'm thinking of cutting Mostar off the list, I imagine it would be a tourist trap. Just had a look at Jajce, looks pretty nice scenery wise with an interesting history. Will see what time I have. I will definitely check out the old town in Sarajevo then. Would be cool to do a club night but I'm not overly fussed and might just save it for Belgrade. Pretty excited about going! Thanks again to you both for the information.
