so far we are doing really well and Jesse has already gained a whole pound in 2 weeks! guess he likes mamas milk!

^awesome.

it's actually quite amazing how much they can gain from so little initial feed. :)

^ Really? I always found it more amazing how much they manage to scarf down at such a young age.

i'm talking brand new. the first several breastfeeds there is actually very little drawn. i forget what it's called, it's like more of a concentrated dose at first. but you're right, before long their bodies become like clown cars (bigger on the inside than on the outside).

another thing i had no idea about was that when babies are only on breastmilk, their shit don't stink.

^^ <3 her sweet face!

woohoo! congrats Samadhi!! :D

are you talking about colostrum? their tummies are the size of a marble (5-7ml) on day 1, ping pong ball by day 3, and a chicken egg by day 10. you're right - it doesn't take much to get 'em full... but because their bodies are so efficient at digesting colostrum and momma's milk, they're tummies empty quicker too!

my bub's diapers smelled a little like buttered popcorn mixed with vinegar - not stink-free but probably a lot better than the alternative. :) now that we've introduced solids, it's a whole new ballgame in the diaper arena.

so glad to see everyone doing so well! <3

I'm sure she won't mind me sharing for those of you who aren't FB friends - samadhi's bubba was born last Thursday at 32 weeks. He's only little but it sounds like they're doing well.

I'll let her announce the name + post pics when she's back on her feet.

Of course I don't mind, Aunty Jo <3

Our little guy decided that he was too eager to see the world, and decided to make an appearance on the 25th April. He spent a total of 45 days in hospital - 4 in NICU and 41 in Special Care. At birth, he weighed 1505g (3lb 5oz) and now weighs a much chunkier 2.8kg. I'm still working out how so much awesome can fit into someone so small. We finally took him home on Friday, and he's already turned our lives completely upside down, but every time i look at him, my heart bursts. <3

Bluelight, meet Jack; Jack, bluelight.

A thousand congrats, Samadhi. He's just perfect!

Hi everyone! I just got done reading throught the whole thread and wanted to say congratulations to Tacky and Samadhi! I LOVE the mustache paci and am so glad you posted a picture of it. I was curious to see it when you first posted about it! I'm so happy for both of you and all the other parents here on BL. I am 14 weeks pregnant with my second child and am starting to get really excited about it. It's been rocky emotionally for me but after reading through so many postive posts and seeing so many happy mommies and daddies I have the hormonal baby tears down my cheeks! My five year old daughter is super excited too. I'm not sure how many other Bl'ers are PG right now but I hope to share the experience here as the baby boards on the net are too bitchy and judgemental. Much love to you all
