Television The Simpsons

"homer at bat" with all the major league players.

burns (angrily): "i told you to cut those sideburns mattingly! now get out of here!"

mattingly (grumbling): "i still like him better than steinbrenner."

My favorites are "Lisa's First Words" and "Lisa the Vegetarian" though I'm not even a Lisa fan. :D I'd also put Who Killed Mr. Burns Pt. 1 up near the top as well.

My favorite scene though comes from "Lisa on Ice" at the start of their sibling rivalry:

Marge: You are not in direct competition with each other! Repeat, you are not in direct competition!
Homer: Hey! Apu just called. This Friday, Lisa's team is playing Bart's team. You'll be in direct competition! And I don't want you to go easy on each other just because you're brother and sister. I want to see you both fighting for your parents' love! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

it's not a dress, it's a Muumuu ;)

Hahaha. I don't want to look like a weirdo; I'll take the muumuu. =D

Where's my Tab?

My all-time favorite episode is from season four and called "Last Exit to Springfield." Every gag in this episode is pure fucking gold. It's where Lisa needs braces and Burns wants to take away the dental plan so they go on strike. I mean, they have an evil dentist who leverages the Big Book of British Smiles to get children to brush their teeth. So great. :D

I dont know what the episode was called but i liked the one where homer became garbage commissioner. Thats the one with the song "the garbageman can."

Either that or the one where he gets all fat and wears a mumu.

Yes! yes! God YES!
The scene starts with the kicking and punching blindy at each other, followed up by homer blindly biting at a pie he's not allowed to eat. Then marge breaks up the fight by flicking the lights on and off..
...then when homer's yelling fight! fight! fight!, he flicks the lights on and off.

PURE GOLD

"Who shot Mr Burns" is my favourite i think. It's the most developed of their stories and the only real double length episode.

I remember initially in the late eighties, Bart was supposed to be the outrageous, almost offensive main character (but then homer took over). Over the many years i've been shocked and outraged at only one moment of the show, and that is the final scene in the excellent Frank Grimes episode. Homer asleep at the funeral "Change the channel marge" and everyone laughs.

I'm pretty fond of the old Halloween episode that parodied Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder", with the time-machine toaster. Then again, I'm a sci-fi geek. :D

That one's called King-Size Homer it's from the 7th Season.

Thanks very much :)

As for that lisa going veggie eppisode you were talking about. If it's the same one I'm thinking of, then it features one of my favourite converstions between her and Homer.

Homer-'Lisa honey, are you saying you're never going to eat another animal again?. What about bacon?'
Lisa-'No'
Homer-'Ham?'
Lisa-'No'
Homer-'Pork chops?'
Lisa-'No. Dad they all come from the SAME animal'.
Homer-'Yeah right Lisa, a wonderful "magical" animal' =D =D =D

That's the best halloween episode ever, IMO.

Homer: Aah! OK, don't panic -- remember the advice your father gave you on your wedding day.
[remembers Abe with hair and a tuxedo]
Abe: If you ever travel back in time, don't step on anything because even the tiniest change can alter the future in ways you can't imagine.
Homer: Fine. As long as I stand perfectly still and don't touch anything, I won't destroy the future. [a mosquito flies in] Stupid bug! You go squish now! [swats it]

Mwahaha.

Homer: [grumbles] Stupid Moe, non-inventing, recipe-stealing, pug-nosed...

Marge: Well, Homer, maybe you can get some consolation in the fact that something you created is making so many people happy.

Homer: [sickly sweet] Oh, look at me! I'm making people happy! I'm the Magical Man from Happy-Land, in a gumdrop house on Lollipop Laaaaaane!
[leaves the room, slamming the door]
[pokes his head back in] Oh, by the way, I was being sarcastic.
[closes the door]

Homer: Hello. My name is Mr. Burns. I beleive you have a letter for me.

Mail Clerk: Okay Mr. Burns...what's your first name?

Homer: I Don't know.

I love this line and still laugh outloud everytime I see this episode. Love the Simpsons...

My other favorite episodes are when they go to Toronto and Winnipeg...

Homer quits beer for thirty days

AND

(same episode's subplot):

Bart destroys Lisa's Science Fair project, so she, at the last minute, has to find a new one.

She visits the pet shop, decides to set up an experiment entitled "Is My Brother Dumber Than A Hamster?," and walks up to the hamster cage and asks the pet store owner:

"What does this one do?"

The store owner's sarcastically replies:

"This little fella writes mysteries under the name E.M. McGreggor."

Lisa: "How can a hamster write mysteries?"

Store Owner, perfect deadpan:

"He gets the ending first; then, he works backwards."

Perhaps it's partly beause I'm a comic, and for me, that's how the creative process (i.e., the writing of a joke) works, but I nominate this joke for Top Ten Simpsons Jokes Not Uttered By Phil Hartman and this episode for Best All-Time Episode.

Also among my favorite episodes of the Second Greatest Cartoon Of All Time are The Goodfellas parody, The Cape Fear parody and The B-Sharps.

Conan O'Brien has indeed (deservedly) received his due as a comedic genius, but in my opinion, may people forget that without him, The Simpsons don't jump into a whole other stratosphere of "Holy Fuck, This Is The Most Brilliant Show Ever!" so that shows like "Da Ali G Show" and "Family Guy" could have such a high bar to pursue and, I would argue, surpass.

Long Live Comedy!

The one where they go to Australia so Bart can apoligise to the government.

I love the dodgy Aussie accents, "It's an emeeeeeeeergency!"
