Harm Reduction The Pain Management Mega Thread Version 4

Hi all : ) This is my first time postin' so bare with me

After a car accident I've been taking 10mg of percocet for the past I guess, 5 months? Naturally my tolerance for drugs is fairly high, so I'm taking 30mg in the morning to get me through until the afternoon, than another 10 or 20 more until evening, than 10..I guess about 60-75 mg a day depending on the amount of pain I'm in. I do get worried about the Tylenol aspect of it but I'm fairly diligent about not taking more than 1500 at one time, or 4,000 in a day. And I also take some holistic stuff to help cleanse my liver.

Now my doctor is putting me on the extended release Oxy starting at 20mg. I'm worried frankly, it won't be enough for the pain (he's already super resistant to give me anything for a long period of time..) anyway how exactly does it work, and how much should I take off the bat. What's equal to 30 mg of Percocet and does it even matter because a little bit is released at a time?

Help!

Coraline, How does Nucynta compare with oxycodone immediate release if you've tried it?
thanks!!!

I have never had it. I would say its works well on pain better than hydrocodone.

I do get a slight headache but its not a normal headache. It's weird. I can not explain it. But it takes my pain in my back away.

I am good, thanks... I find that I get headaches from larger doses of opiates. This is quickly resolved by taking 1 or 2 (325mg) aspirin as soon as I feel it coming on. If your tummy doesn't like aspirin, then take some aloe vera with it or some peppermint oil extract gel caps. This really helps me... :!

I have stomach ulcers he said to stop taking Advil. I'm taking Zantac again.

I will try the peppermint oil for my tummy.
I just took Lyrica. I never had this one before either. Gabapentin made me twitch and jerk. Lets hope this med world different.

Here is a chart that compared opiates.

This should answer some of your questions.

Ugh I've gotta go back to the surgeon, my knee has been giving out on me lately and my spondylolysis is getting a lot worse. I'm really hoping to find some sort of sustainable non-drug treatment besides pt.

I want one too. I want that nerve block. The dr said its a series of 10 shots and one is given every 2 weeks. So that's a total of a lot of money I can't afford. I don't think it will work on me.

I hope you get some relief and feel better soon.

Im having a really bad time at the minute with my pain and my mental health. hope everyone else is doing ok and having low pain days <3

Note: In the past when I was prescribed Oxy ER I accidently discovered undissolved tablets in my stool...Yuck - yes, But thankfully when I told my Dr. he took me off of them. Since then I have heard of numerous cases of this, especially from the new formulation. Something to keep in mind If you are not getting relief within a couple of days, compared to the instant release, consider it suspect.
I had the original OC's pass through me undissolved, so I know the new formula may as well be a pebble picked up off the ground

I was in ZERO PAIN!!

How are you doing Brighton?

How is everybody doing today?

Im doing pretty good. The chronic pain in my wrist is really low, not even noticeable most of the time. But my dentist told me Ive been clenching my jaw and thats been giving me some pain, ibuprofen and aspirin arent working, time to go see my doc for something stronger, maybe celebrex or some muscle relaxers.

Great that your new meds are working out!

I went to fill my morphine at my local walgreens and they said the dea wont let them carry it anymore and they were not aloud to tell me if and other walgreens can carry it. The fact I don't drive makes this even harder. Atleast I got my hydrocodone and I still have 5 days worth left of morphineand lots of bud. Going to try and go down on the morphine in case I can't get it for a bit. God I hate Florida.

^ Thats crazy! I hope you can fill your script in time.

Im having not such a great pain time, 5/10, up from almost non existent levels. Meh.

I dream of days of 5 lol...especially with this bullshit of me only having tylenol...not supposed to take advil anymore, so it seems almost pointless to even take the APAP. How's everyone else been recently?

Hey peeps,

Got myself down from 20mg of methadone every 8 hours to 10mg every 8 hours. My Oxy IR is still the same but I feel the drop in methadone has been a turning point in my recovery from my 2 spine surgeries this year. Still not feeling great, but trying to make a good effort for both the PM Doctor who has been so sympathetic and my family who has to juggle my pain problems against my past history of opiate addiction.

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing ok. Doomed, hope you are improved over the last time we spoke cuz I worry about you girl!

^nice work, man. congrats!

i was on the receiving end of a badly needed massage yesterday from my aunt which got rid of a lot of knots in the upper body region, mainly shoulders. residual effects seem to be pretty decent as i went all day without dosing until around 2 hours ago when i finally decided to get out of bed after an awesome night of uninterrupted sleep and most of the day. little aches and pains and the sniffles were getting to me.

am looking at to reduce down to 60mg morphine bd within the next few weeks. the doctor has been pushing it upon me without taking action, leaving me to decide when and i finally need to crack the whip so sooner rather than later, i guess. it'll increase my productivity if anything.

I've been suffering from degenerative disc disease for a long time and the intradiscal injections that used to give me relief just aren't working anymore. My pain mgmt doc said he's just started performing platelet rich plasma injections on patients, and the early results look very promising. It seems this is brand new in the treatment for disc problems, so wondering if anyone out there has tried it or knows much about it?

But you have a new pain specialist appointment coming up right?? I just went to four different pharmacies trying to find the cheapest celebrex, and it turns out that the 200mg ones are 3 times the prices of the 100mg. Bizarre.

my worker's comp insurance badgered me for over 2 years to use a chain pharmacy instead of the one in the hospital where my pain management practice is on the basis that it must be cheaper.

my baclofen script costs $50 more at the chain pharmacy. oh well, they got what they wished for. jerks.

So this is off-topic for this thread, but since its related to all us who take meds and are in pain; well heres a quick story.

3 nights ago My GF, a friend and I leave the movies, its about 1:30am and we decided to stop at a 7-11 for some drinks and cigs. We walk in, there are 3 cops eyeballing us the whole entire time, we pay and leave. Im the one driving, I pull out and wouldn't you know those 3 cops followed me for a mile and pulled us over. Cop comes to the car, just asks for all our licenses and insurance and registration, in the same sentence he asks me to get out of the car and ask what I have on me, I tell him my meds which consisted of Roxicodone and Oxymorphone in their correct bottles. He pats me down, and the same for my GF and friend. I ask why I was pulled over and patted down right away his response was "Because you had trouble walking in 7-11"

Ok fine, I explain I'm a CPP, give my medical conditions, and chronic leg and knee pain is one of them. So this asshole is throwing 100 different questions at me, accusing me of selling my pills, going through my pills, saying I had less pills than I should have (which I had the exact amount)etc. We were detained for close to an hour. My car was never searched only me and my friends.

Im just disgusted by this, at most in 7-11 I was walking with a limp as I was trying to avoid taking my Roxies and OxyM. Im beside myself and don't know what to think or do...
