No, it isn't a tens unit. they implant it into you, idk. It's like a permanent lumbar block with electricity instead of drugs. My pain is mostly neuropathic. I have alot of secondary trauma. The lidoderm helps with alot of the crps symptoms, and other symptoms too. It is only lidocaine, no diclofenac.

Doomed, PM me when you see this post. I really want to speak to you about the whole spinal cord stimulator issue and if your national health care system has different requirements or a certain level of back pain. After 3 fusions at 27, my PM doc has mentioned this route as well and but I have not seen very much positive feedback from people who went ahead with the implanted procedure.

-mike (hope your ok today)

I have s special mattress if i had a normal mattress id never get any sleep, way too hard

Hi Everyone! It would simply take to long to read all the good stuff you guys have been talking about in order for me to catch up lol! so good morning, hope you all are doing well. it's awesome to see this thread so active!
I have something to share about fentanyl patch adhesion. I usually have the same problems that everyone else does in this area.... they lose their stickiness and wind up coming off early.
Well, I was reading about this issue on a forum meant for nurses who are chronic pain patients. Many people were talking about the fact that they swabbed their skin with alcohol, then rinsed with water and dried before putting patch on.
I had always heard this was a bad idea. It even says so in the patient literature that comes with the drug...
But, I decided that I would try it.
Fast forward four days later to today ( I'm supposed to change it every 2 days)...I woke up feeling the beginnings of withdrawals. I immediately felt my patch and realized it was totally dried out. I got up and changed my patch and I obviously still feel like crap. It's actually a good thing though.
The reason that I forgot to change my patch was because it's stuck so well!!! It didn't give me any problems, and because of that I wasn't constantly looking forward to patch changing time lol.
Usually by the end of the first day I start to have issues with it gaping open... Then out comes the God forsaken tape and the checking every half hour, etc.. so this is really a big deal for me! I'm very excited about this, although I really do feel very badly. I noticed I didn't feel quite right all day yesterday, and I found myself taking more then normal of my breakthrough medicine... but I honestly never realized it was time to change my patch. I looked at several times, but it looked so good that I didn't entertain the thought any longer. I'm usually very good about changing it on time.
OK, Sorry for the ramble and thank you all for reading. Just very excited that from the looks of things, I won't have to go through so much crap anymore trying to get it to stick. BUT, I definitely will have to start writing down when I change it lol.

That is good i used waterproof dressing covers to keep mine on, also some people get four days off the patch because there is actually 96 hours worth of fentanyl in the patches.

I WISH I could get 4 days out of them! Oh wow, I am feeling worse and worse. I wonder how long this is going to continue? I put my new patch on about 3 hours ago. I just can't remember ever going this long without changing it. I realize that literature says it could take 12 hours or so to get into your system... but I think that is assuming it's your first dose.
Has anybody else been through this? Any idea how long I will feel like crap, and is it going to continue to get worse before it gets better? I feel SO sick.
I think I know what you're talking about regarding the waterproof dressings...I think it is called something like tegaderm. I can't use it because. I use the patch with the gel reservoir, and can only put tape around the edges of it :(
Countdown to D2P's appointment....22 days! Man, that's a long time :( I should not be bitching!!

Full fentanyl wd is not nice but i think you should start to feel normal again in a couple of hours. I found night 2 and day 3 the worst last time i could turkeyed fent and could only get otc cocodamol to help me through, it used to happen every 10 days because the pharmacy never ordered more patches in so id be left 3 or 4 days with no meds. Still have problems with the pharmacy Im with woke up in wd today because they didn't deliver my meds yesterday. Grrrr. And yes 22 days seems like forever away i will probably end up in the nut house before i get seen lol

Mornin'<3
So sorry everyone feels shoddy, just move over, I'm in the same boat. I feel like hammered hell this morning, every damn muscle is singing like a church choir and movement is just agony. Out of meds, out of coffee, outta luck. crap.:!

Thanks, hun. <3 I shouldn't complain, y'all have it waaaaay worse than I do. Fent patches, huh? I had that stuff one time during a heart cath and boy howdy! That shit hit my veins and it was like every muscle in my body just let go, instant jello. Then my eyeballs started rolliing around in my head. I distinctly remember asking the nurse "What was that?!" and she replied,"Liquid courage." No shit jack johnson. i was always a fan of Dilaudid, but I only was given that if I went to the ER for my muscle pain. That stuff works! And sleep like a baby......zzzzzzz.

fantastic day for me. discovered 200mg of oxy i must have stashed/misplaced in my drawers a few months back. means no dipping into my morphine so i can have a little extra fun in a few days.

my pain, otherwise, has been of no concern:) barely any breakthrough episodes to boot!

:)

Just got out of the ER...went in around 1 this morning. Pain hit an 8 and I went into a panic attack, so I said fuck it, what's one more ER bill, thank god for my insurance. Just sucks that it was probably only a level 4/5 trauma, so it will be costly. At first they gave me 60mg toradol, 30mg norflex, and 8mg zofran IV push, and a 5mg valium PO. Then after they took labs and a urine sample, they came back with .3mg of IV bupe (push) and a potassium drink. The bupe got me down to about a 6 (unfortunately no rush of pain relief or anything...came on slowly). That potassium shit fucking sucks btw...Made me feel like I was having a gal bladder attack (abdominal pain entering into my chest and radiating to my back), so they had to bring me a GI cocktail with lidocaine. FINALLY just got rid of the nausea. I wish they had sent me home with some zofran, but at least they sent me home with 30 tramadol, 30 flexeril 10s, and 30 lyrica 150s. Just don't know if I should wait on the trams because of blockade effect from bupe. I already took two, but that was just about 30 minutes ago and they normally take 2 hours to hit me. Anyone here think the blockade will be strong enough to mitigate the tramadol? Based on 40% SL it's about 3/4mg of subutex.

Maybe you'd be best off asking that on the sub thread. Id say it is a bit soon but i only have a basic understanding

doug, keep in mind they're not going to get you high when helping you out with pain relief. you need to get rid of that mentality. when you're in the ER for pain relief you're not going to get a hit and get off. they give enough to help manage it.

i just answered your question in reply to your pm.

I wasn't expecting to get a hit from it, I just remember the one time I got a pushes of morphine, it wouldn't get me high, but I would definitely feel a rush of pain relief (that's what I mean when I say rush; the pins/needles followed by an instant drop in pain level).

Nope...not long at all...in fact, me getting the first push of morphine made me go from convulsing in pain at a 9 with my face ripped open to a 7.5 and it hit me and made me go 'OOHHH! OOH! ooh!' where i stopped convulsing, then after the 3 second rush, i was back to convulsing. Then 5 minutes later they gave me another...again, same effect except the second one i didn't start convulsing again and they had gotten me down to a 6...

I'm gonna try to get some sleep now before my urologist appt. i feel like i can actually get to sleep eaily for a change... YAY!

I don't get the hype about morphine after i was ran over i got 3 10mg shots in the back of the ambulance along with gas and air and some other shot and it felt like id had nothing at all i couldnt believe it and they wouldnt give me any more other than the gas and air for fear of me overdone. then i was on morphine again last year after we discovered i was allergic to the fentanyl and it was just like taking apap. Does nothing for me

Hey Tentram, what the hell! ? This is a day for complaining and whining, get with the program lol ;) ;)
Just kidding.
I think I'm actually starting to feel a little less awful. I've had about 4 days worth of bowel movements in the last 5-6 hours, I feel like I may have actually lost a pound or 2 from being sick too. That just about sums up the positive parts of my day so far!
I really am sorry that so many are not doing well today... and I'm happy for the ones who are :)
