Hi all:) apologies in advance for the vent / rant it's been a long day.

I just had a weirdest call from a doctor, I was prescribed more MST last week by my GP for the ongoing pan I have from a motorcycle accident I had late May, I had cut down to 30/500 Codeine and APAP tabs but the pain was becoming really intrusive making my days miserable and my nights even worse. My doc is pretty good and gave me a script for 30 10mg MST Continus tabs told me to take 2-3 in the morning and the same in the evening and to come back to see him within 2 weeks, all good.

I go to try and make an appointment only to be told he is not going to be in and the next appointment is 10th September, so knowing he will be in this week I drop in a letter explaining the situation and asking that he prescribe enough medication to see me through to the appointment, he has my contact numbers and has called me several times so I assume if there is a problem he call me and setup and earlier appointment.

This evening I get a call form another doctor at the same practice who I don't know but is clearly dealing with the letter. He starts telling me that they usually only prescribe morphine to those who are terminally ill, not sure if he is telling me what he does or trying to convince me this is some kind of policy. He asks me how much I'm taking which is exactly what I'm prescribed and the says "that's a lot of tablets" I explain the situation with my injury and that I'm concious of the dosage and will be trying to lower the dose over time, if possible while consulting, as agreed with my doctor. He then proceeds to offer me 30mg tabs instead:? I have to explain that they would prevent me from adjusting my dose...this guy actually seems more bothered about the number of tablets than the dose.

Finally after explaining why I can't take Tramadol and why I can take NSAIDs and the fact that I've been taking a truck load of 30/500s and that I'm happy to try something else if he has something in mind he switched me to Morphgesic SR, cheaper apparently and says he will give me 90.

I'm really not sure what to think ( sorry tl:dr;))

He seems to be under the impression that the number of tablets is the problem, so instead of RXing you a bunch of 10mg morphines, he wants to RX you a lower quantity of higher strength pills.

As you said, it's not in your best interest to be on higher dosage pills since then you can't take more or less than the 30mg tablet.
I'm not sure what went on there but I would call another doctor and ask for a second opinion.

He's trying to convince you that they only RX morphine for terminally ill patients, I assure you this is not true it's prescribed for chronic pain to patients of many ages with non-terminal conditions. His own prescribing practice may reflect the statements he's made, but that doesn't mean the policy has basis in fact.

To Lady S,
I understand how it feels to be intimidated by your doctor. It sucks when you're made to feel like they are doing you a favor just by giving you ANYTHING for your pain, and to question them at all would be outrageous.
Sometimes if I am uncomfortable around a certain doctor, I find it helpful to write things down before hand. it sounds like you are so intimidated, it's hard for you to talk at all. If it's that bad, just write down your thoughts and questions and hand him the piece of paper. Obviously, there will be SOME conversation lol ;) But at least this way, you will be sure you've gotten your point across and said/asked what you intend to. When someone else is controlling the direction of a converation, it can be difficult to keep my thoughts together.
Do you care to go into more detail about him requesting you see another doctor?

Off Topic:...Has anyone heard from Doug "Jktm"? Ever since he combined 30mg of Clonzepam and Morphine, that was his last post. He hasn't posted since then....

Im thinking something happened that night.

Anyone?

Doug if your reading this, post up. Let us know your O.K

He is alive, he just messaged me.

Sorry...wrote a note for parents just in case at like midnightish when I took the stuff...then in the morning, I had to drive a friend to work on the way to school...lost my other two morphines and was raging mad...so I took a 50mg seroquel before class...

It kicked in when I got into class...was handed a quiz, started to try to focus on it, face ended up on it while I drooled and tried scribbling on it...was forced to find a ride home, told my ride I was like that because I took seroquel because of how pissed off I was for losing morphine...it is an anti-psych...he ended up having to walk me in, put me on the couch, and later in the day, an ambulence was called because my sister had come into the living room and saw me take a piss on the floor and lay down in it...if only they knew first sign of OD is vomitting...

spent 2 nights in IMICU and 5 nights in a behavioral health center because of the note...at least it went down as a suicide attempt instead of just a drug OD, because I would have been fucked on getting into a pharm school/program...

Oddly...it wasn't the 60mg of morphine or the 44mg of clonazepam...it was the 50mg of seroquel synergizing with it...go figure...

At the institution they had me on 20mg vicodin QID PRN, 50mg tramadol TID Scheduled, 1mg Xanax IR QID Scheduled (was still having panic attacks), protonix, they put me on effexor...and I think that was about it...

They gave me 2mg Prozan my first night there for sleep...it was like the magic pill that solved my sleeping solutions, but the took it away the next day...they also started me on 20mg OC BID 8 hours apart, with 4 norcos for breakthrough and 3 tramadol daily, but that all got changed too...oh, and I started with Xanax XR 2mg BID, but I prefered the IR...except when I slipped my morning dose in my pocket and chewed it up with my night time dose at one point lol...

I have degeneration of my lower disks. I see a doctor once a month and I'm taking naproxen , cyclobenzaprine, and etodalolac. I was wondering how long an average visit was, we talk for a minute or two, and he puts me on another useless NAISD. I need a real opiate, I use morphine from poppy pods to ease the pain when its really bad, only 20-30 mgs orally tho. I want to just screen "give me fucking morphine you useless SOB! I do it anyway!" How do I get something that works? Should I tell him that I use morphine?

Its still a violation of forum guidelines to ask how to get prescribed opioid narcotics whether you have legitimate pain or not.
My bad, didn't really make my question clear, would it be OK to tell him about the morphine or would that get me blacklisted (they use proscription monitoring here in VA) I go in and just tell him that it hurts, I have no clue how convey how much pain I'm in to him.

If you tell a doctor that you're taking morphine without a prescription, you will be blacklisted.

Just be honest with the doctor and pray he takes mercy on you, we can't give you any other advice than this because what your asking is still a violation of the forum guidelines.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time, I know how much of a pain in the ass it can be.

Vein pain.

Ive never IV'd Anything but i do ocasionally take tension headache OtC pills, which I think is the cause of it But i am unsure. Its a throbbing pain that feels like my vain is bursting it only happened on my left side. It first happened in my arm pit and then moved down to my calve. Completely different the muscular pain.

Sounds like neuropathy. What is the pain like, sensation wise? Burning, tension, electric shock, etc? Throbbing isn't always a good description as most intense pain will have some throbbing effect to it.
