Hi, I have been addicted to opiates (mainly oxycontin, lately opana) for about 3 years now. I was a daily user with a moderate habit; at my peak was using anywhere from 80 to 160mg oxycodone. I have just recently been able to take control of my addiction and cut back use to about once every 2 weeks. I still suffer slight physical wd if I use for more than a day in a row.

However, every time I use now I do not feel the same awesome "high" that I remember, and instead I feel nauseous and usually end up throwing up...even off of only like 15 or 20mg oxy! The last time I used was 5 mg opana and I got so sick! Wtf, just like two months ago I blew down an entire 40 of opana! When I very first started using I would get sick a lot, but I would puke and then immediately feel better and go back to feeling AWEsome. I know it is probably best that I cannot attain this high anymore as it creates somewhat of an aversion in my brain (even though when I start to crave really bad I just focus on the 'good ol days' of using) but I am curious as to whether or not this is permanent. The only catch to all of this is that if I use for about 3 days, my body seems to get used to it again and I can feel kiiinda high and not get sick, but still not anywhere near as euphoric as it used to be.

Basically I want to know if any of you have had experience with this before, and whether or not you ever were able to 'recreate' that great sedated yet energized high again that has sucked so many of us in to the cycle of addiction. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, my body did this as well. I first required lower doses than ever before, and eventually even those were not enjoyable like they once were. I can still occasionally get good effects from things like oxycodone, but if I try to use with any regularity, my body will start to "reject" the drug like you are describing.

I use kratom now more than any opiate and find it to be more enjoyable, though I wouldn't go overboard with kratom either as the same thing is likely to happen.

If you look at the stages of the cycle of addiction, you'll notice that the second to last stage is one that requires much smaller doses than before.

I'm curious, what are these stages of addiction that you talk about? I never knew addiction had stages. I'm hooked pretty good on opiates too. I have noticed lately since being on opana . My body and mind just don't feel the same on them. Its becoming alot less enjoyable almost to the point when I do less I'm starting to feel really good. I been running low on my drug this last week and I haven't felt this good in while. The buzz just isn't the same anymore.

Yeah the exact same thing happened to me when i was hooked on oxies. after doing them for months the high kinda stopped being a high and more of a down. They would make me sick and i would usualy vomit usualy an hour after injestion.

to get the awesome feeling back, I started experimenting with pill cocktails.

Oxycontin + Benzocycloprine (AKA Flexeril) + Gabapentines = Intense Euphoric state, almost too intense.

I then moved onto other opiates like Fentanyl and Methadone with these combos to increase the high of these drugs also.

Then finaly got into Heroin (Smoked/insnuffilated) before i realised what Chasing the Dragon actually means.

The Dragon being the High metaphorically.

Honestly now i would never go back to pills, such a waste of money compared to Heroin. More bang for your buck, and i dont need combine pills with it to get the needed euphoric effects. only problem is once you start chasing the dragon, he/she gets harder and harder to chase, and you need more and more to catch up to him.

I beat my addictions though, Although im still inlove with the high, ive learned how to say no after multiple relapses and horrible withdrawls.

^^Excellent post. I have never tried H but I know exactly what you mean by how expensive staying with the pill route can be. These days I keep my opiate use down to my minimum...3-40mg of hydrocodone a day with around 700mg soma in the morning when my leg pain is at its worst. Most days I feel well but I never realize that I am "high" per say until I run out for a day or two and then get that magic feeling of being more than just being well. That is not to say that I don't feel "good" when I take them, it just isn't that AHHHH feeling you know?

So basically this magical opiate high will never return. Even if I stay clean for years and say in like 10 years I got some surgery or something and got a script for opiates, it will never feel as good as it once did because I have been addicted to it? That's really unfortunate news for the addict in me, but great news for the ACTUAL, real me who wants to stay clean.

I did some opana last night for the first time in 2 weeks and the same thing happened. I felt very ill and spent the whole night on the couch, culminating in me puking and wondering (as usual) why the fuck I even wasted my money on the shit. Oh well, ya live and ya learn...except apparently I never seem to learn...

Dont get me wrong, you can get alot of the magic back through abstinence. I was clean for 3 months and then relapsed back on oxies. I Felt about 75% of the magic and bliss that it was as my first time, but basically nothing is ever as good as when you first start.
I think that basis goes with all drugs in general.

Intersting, I just noticed that this past weekend. I took about 4 5/500 vicodins and felt ill and not in the "good" way.

The bad thing is I get irritated and its not the good talkative high it used to be (weep)

I'll be getting my script tomorrow so I guess I'll know for sure if I'm at this next stage or not.

Opiates indirectly release dopamine into the ventral tegmental area of the brain. Because of the indirect nature of this, you can't keep getting the same effects from opiates indefinitely in terms of the rewarding/reinforcing/euphoric/addictive nature of them.

Some people will always get pain relief from opiates at a certain dosage, but the euphoria will fade fast.

The side effects of opiate usage will not go away as quickly as the euphoria will.

Happens you need to very careful and limited with your use if you want to sustain the full desired effects of the substance.

^^^^^^

This is me. I still try to keep my dosage as prescribed which is 1 Norco every 6 hours for back pain. I dont get high off them but it does take my pain away & thats what counts. When I do wanna feel a buzz, I mix in 1 or 2 Soma's & I feel pretty nice......:)

Wow! I was noticing the same exact thing. I was taking 40-80mg of OP every day for only a couple weeks and now I can't even blow a blue without feeling sick :(

Yep I take a week or more break every month from my oxycodone. Its hard but when I start to take it again it works at much smaller doses. But by the 2nd week of being back on it Im back to my normal dose again. Just take smaller doses and do what your doing as far as once in a while. Its a good thing.

u guys are really lucky that your bodies are rejecting opiates. I wish that would happen to me.

Regarding the issue of tolerance and getting that initial euphoria, ime, after I use a dissociative like mxe or a pcp analog for 2-3 days in a row, not only is my physical addiction to heroin and suboxone gone, but when I use heroin again, I need only 1-2 east coast bags of good dope to get very high - a slight nod with a good feeling.

Unfortunately, bc of this intermittent behavior reward, it makes my addiction much more psychologically challenging to beat. And on top of heroin, I now crave dissociatives about every 2 weeks (so I kind of added another addiction).

And by the way, i think that the energized high from oxycontin may be due to the presence of the alkaloid thebaine (which is also found in suboxone).

at least you guys can handle opiates. i remember i took 20mg of oxies and i felt weird as hell. like a few days later i took more thinking it was a low dose, but instead i felt kind of sick and really tired and itchy. not a pleasant high for me. ive never felt the opiate bliss everyone talks about. but if your not feeling it as much i would cut down for like a month or so and see what happens then.

WAY Easier said than done.

Your lucky you never felt the felt the opiate bliss, because your probably nowhere near hooked on it as the rest of us.

My body used to Reject Methadone pretty badly at first, but it was almost the opposite as oxies because once i built up immunity, the poison effect and constant vomiting turned into full out physical addiction.

Wierd because oxies caused the negative effects.

That's funny I was exactly like you 2 years ago popping E 3-4 times a week, than tried oxy for the first time fell in love with it and now needing a few 80's to even get a high. I couldn't even take another pill of E makes me quiver just thinking about it.. sick :p
