the official NCAA football thread

Its strange he keeps on failing to mention that! And also it just happens that Ohio State has a crap Strength of Schedule.

How can you even for a minute think that a team that plays the best teams in the country week after week should have less pull than a team that breezes through its schedule but plays teams that just are not that talented this year, or last year or the year before?

You fail to even explain it a little, if you are right, then who should be No 1 Hawaii or Kansas??

I bet you mention Kansas and never Hawaii because Kansas has something better than Hawaii ...... is it.... wait ... They play better teams!!
 
the Florida Gators have had just as bad as a schedule as Ohio State. the SEC is horrible this year. I love how SEC fans say: "but we all beat up on one another and spoil each other's hopes! we are the best conference." no, if you want to go to the NC you have to not lose to teams like South Carolina or Kentucky.

the SEC and Big 10 are laughably horrible this year. and if you don't agree with that you do not know good football.

well I don't agree, and I certainly know football. We will see who is right and who is wrong when the dust settles and we count up who has more bowl victories at the end of the season.
 
^^Yes and no :\ A lot of bowls get uneven matchups just to fill the seats. I really am trying to look forward to the bowls and see how the conferences matchup and win out over eachother, but I have to bear in mind that if UF (3rd, 4th, or 5th best in the SEC) ends up against a MICH or ILL (2nd or 3rd best in Big10+1) and we shred them...it wasn't really a fair matchup.

Wait, I took a turn somewhere in that thought, sorry. My point is in comparing bowl wins, you'll be looking at something like a #12 ranked team vs an unranked team who got pulled in because they were geographically convinient and ensures a bigger ticket sales for the bowl. *IF* they could matchup #7 vs #8-10 or something relatively even, then yeah, it'd be more interesting. But the bowls have their ties, and after the top few, you end up with odd matches like SEC#6 vs Big10+1#3 which doesn't give a fair comparison.

FWIW, last year I had some master paper marked up with all the conferences and all the teams, marking how each conf did against the others and it was such a spread, most came out fairly even against eachother except for the instances of only 2 teams from a conf getting a bowl or some such oddity. Still, something to talk about I suppose.


To the point of undefeated KAN or HI being worthy of higher rankings than a one loss OSU or LSU or Oregon, I'd look at it this way - if we could put KAN vs LSU in a nuetral site, which would win and would it be close? Not IMO, and therefore an undefeated team (that has shown close wins over so-so teams and blowouts over really bad teams) is not going to deserve higher rankings than a team that has beat better teams, but lost one game. Most of the world is realistic enough to see this and understand, and they rank accordingly putting a 1-loss OSU behind Kansas but ahead of Hawaii.
 
FL will shred almost anybody they come up against now that Tebow is healthy again. It would be amusing to see OSU drop the next couple games, and wind up getting fucked by the gators again.

Looking ahead to next year, I know OSU is boasting of keeping a tough non-conference opponent on their schedule (making home-and-away with USC, isn't it?), after doing so with Texas and attempting to with Washington.

I just peeked at UF's schedule, as we normally have two chumps before squaring off with TEN. Well, I'm suprised to find we open with...Hawaii (at home, of course, but c'mon their offense should be ready to upset us at home like that) then MIAMI (bringing back the rivalry for a bit, it appears). The only real chump that was put on the schedule AS a chump is Citadel late in the season.

Before anyone bashes us for picking up MIA who completely sucks ass and probably won't be any better next year, recall that these schedules are generally made 3-5 yrs ahead of time....a span over which HI has consistently been an offensive juggernaught, and remained in rankings most of the time. And MIA, aside from being a powerhouse that's fallen lately, we've got the huge in-state rivalry aspect that so many people have been aching for (especially Gator fans hoping to catch them while they are down). Don't tell me rivalry can't throw all predictions aside...especially anyone who claims OSU-MICH is such a big game and losing all but that one is acceptable.

I'm pretty psyched about seeing HA come into the swamp, though I pray to hell our defense is up to the challenge. The offense should be ripe to go score for score, but the defense...I dunno if they can stop that kind of passing attack when they are having the secondary problems they've shown this year. And yeah, count me among the UF fans looking to kick MIA while they are down. I ain't ashamed to say it.
 
Ive never liked Miami, the Dolphins, Marlins, none of it! Hell Lets dig a trench around the everglades and broward county and ship Dade off into the ATlantic.

I too am loving kicking Miami when theyre down. But is Hawaii a Juggernaut? Have they actually played anyone to prove their Offensive wealth? I actaully havent looked.

Anyone think Tebow has a shot at the Heisman? Everything I see tells me it's coming down to him and Dixon. If Dixon goes to the NC, which is after the award, then I think like Troy Smith he'll have already put it in his back pocket (hopefully not carry it there during the NC game). If he loses between now and then, I wouldn't bet too hard against Tebow. All homerism aside, the kid has great stats, and they will only get hyper inflated against the likes of Florida Atlantic and to some degree against FSU. Yeah, he's only a sophmore (makes me really look forward to next year when we only lose a little bit) and they never give it to sophmores, but show me someone more deserving...okay, maybe deserving isn't the right choice, but show me someone more in position to get it if Dixon falters.
 
Tebow will not win the Heisman. if you look back, something on like the first or second page of this thread I said that the Gators might struggle because Tebow has not started a NCAA game in his entire life, before this season.

aww shucks, looks like I was right.
 
Except Tebow hasn't exactly been the reason why the Gators have three loses. Actually, especially considering that he had never started a game before this year, Tebow has been pretty damn good. He definitely deserves Heisman consideration. I don't think he'll win, though, due to the fact that Florida has three loses, but you can't really blame him for that.
 
If I were a UF fan I would be concerned about Miami next year. We would have won a lot more games if we didn't have division II quarterbacks leading our squad, and that is poised change next year. Don't believe true/redshirt freshmen can win big games? Look at Sam Bradford.

Gators wouldn't be shit this season without Tebow. You should have stuck with Zook.
 
Urban Meyer is one helluva better fit for the Gators than Zook. the only way that Zook surpasses Meyer in any MAJOR way is his ability to recruit. he's such a nice guy!

Recruiting is everything in college football. Being able to run some nice trick plays and out coach the other team will steal you a couple of wins, but you can never win a championship without recruiting. Miami has always ran a rather bland pro-set offence and dominated due to our superior talent.

Larry Coker was bad at recruiting. He led us to a tittle. But he couldn't recruit worth a shit and just look at where he left the Canes. I'll see you in 3 or 4 years, when the canes are back on top with Randy's boys and fireurbanmeyer.com comes into existence.
 
I'm still interested in seeing if South Carolina becomes a powerhouse in another couple of seasons thanks to the old ball coach (and wtf is up with particular folks on ESPN calling him the "head ball coach?"). There's a lot less recruiting competition in SC for talent than there is in florida (though, im sure, a lot less talent, too). His name recognition and reputation in the south.. I think people would be willing to put their college careers on the line for him.

I actually despise the Hurricanes and the Gators... I am an Ohio State Buckeyes fan. this was just the perspective of a college football fan who really has no bias in that he doesn't care for one team more than the other.
 
The path for OSU's NC game is one step closer after Oregon lost last night.

Now:

WV might lose to UC.
The Big 12 teams will beat each other (OU will lose to TT this weekend) (Mizzo will beat KU on thanksgiving) (OU will beat KU in the big 12 championship).

If OSU takes care of business against Michican't saturday, then I feel very good about OSU's chances to make the NC, and piss everyone off in the process.
