The official NCAA 2005-2006 Basketball thread

Huskies stomp Villanova... best game I've ever been to.

and Indiana surprises MSU. wow, the Spartans were looking like the top dawgs at the beginning of the year and the Hoosiers were more than lacking lately.

with that Iowa loss looks like Ohio State might steal the Big 10. what an accomplishment for Coach Thad Motta, who basically took a rag tag group of guys and made them a team. Foster and Dials are lighting it up.

Hell yeah bitches! Ohio State are the Big 10 champions baby!!!!!

I can't wait to see them in the Final Four this year.

And Duke lost last night too!! Did anyone else see that craziness that was the last 1.2 seconds between FSU and Duke..
What a shitty way to lose, not only did Duke lose, but they had to pretty much hang out with the FSU fans on the court for 5 minutes until the officials cleared the court. All so the students could just storm the court again! And coach K actually told his starting lineup to clear the court because he feared for their safety. I thought that was funny, but actually a pretty good idea.

Is there anyone that can actually play with Terrance Dials? So far not!

The Duke loss last night was pretty much meaningless to Duke. They still have a #1 seed wrapped up unless they lose both to UNC this weekend and before the finals of the ACC tourney and even then they still probably have it, albeit probably a weaker 1 seed.

So in that sense it was definitely the right call for Coach K to pull his starters off the floor and send them to the dressing room...especially given that one FSU player had already been hurt by the crowd and Lord knows what some of those FSU fans might have been willing to do. I don't necessarily agree with him voicing that the game was already essentially lost as part of his explanation though, even though it was at that point given that FSU had free throws left and Duke would still have had to hit a prayer.

It's nice to finally see maybe that the refs listened when it was brought out that they favor coach K. Maybe that is why they lost Wednesday night. I always thought it was absurd how many lame calls always go Duke's way. Especially when they play at home. And Reddick, according to the latest SI, was voted the biggest crybaby of the ACC. That's funny.

I guess, yeah, I'm taking a little bit away from Duke. I honestly think that if the refs called all of Duke's games fairly that they would have a few more losses.

But Reddick is still a badass.

A poorly unplanned jinx if I've ever seen one. :D

Who was hurt?? I was at the game and follow fsu pretty religiously... warchant.com didn't have any mention of this.

ive not seen a season with so many good games. i watched loyola marymount/gonzaga last night and it was an awesome game.

march madness is here...

^ yeah the LMU VS Gonzaga game was a classic and the UNC-W VS Hofstra got exciting towards the end as well. Ohio State owned the Big 10 in the regular season, and that was a shocking surprise. Terrance Dials is for sure on top of his game at the right time of year. I'm not as confident as smotpoker with OSU making a Final Four appearance, but it stranger things have happened, and it's not the long-shot I thought it would be way back at the beginning of the season.

the UNC upset over Duke really got my blood pumping for March Madness. Tyler Handsborough (the wonder-boy Tar Heel freshmen who plays post) has been improving game-by-game at an outstanding rate.

does anybody have any ambitious Final Four predictions as of now? I would say UCONN, Duke, UNC, and if my prayers were to be answered - OSU. I don't think Gonzaga will make it very far in the tourney when you look at how they played against Loyola (a team with a losing record). it seems if you shut down Adam Morrisson you essentially shut down the team. the other big name schools I just mentioned all are great because they have other offensive contributors. you can't rely on one man alone.

let March Madness begin!!

Yo, I've created BL Yahoo Tournament Pick 'em Group

Alright fellow BL hoopheads, I've created a Yahoo March Madness Pick 'em Pool...here's my group page for anybody that wants to go in on the pool:

http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men/group/25753

Group Name: BL NCAA Hoops Smackdown
ID#: 25753
Password: plurmonkey

Final picks are due 5 minutes before tipoff of the first game on March 16.

I'm gonna post a thread in the Lounge too to get more players.

Back Yer Smack!

I'll be signing up real soon glowbug.

And it may be my excitement just getting the best of me, but I honestly think OSU is final four material? Why not?
They've got a dominant game inside the paint with Dials, and the other four starters have proven time and time again that any of them can go on a hot streak behind the 3 point line. And their D is so hard to try and score on.

I agree with Axel that Gonz is gonna lose early in the tourny. They didn't look to good against LMU or SD.

I'm not sure you can join the group above directly from the page I linked, so I'll link the home Tournament pick 'em page and you can follow the instructions to join from there.

Oh Snap! Bubble teams making statement in conference tourneys

Syracuse 86, UConn 84 (OT)- Cuse likely sealed up a bid with the win over the Huskies.

Temple 68, GWU 53 - The A-10 will now get 2 bids instead of one...the question is, which bubble team will lose a bid now? It also cost GWU any shot at a #1 seed.

FSU is in the process of winning its 1st round game against Wake, so they're also strengthening their argument for an at-large slot.

The UCONN game was a fucking crusher. They sucked the whole game, it really shouldn't have been that close.

I didn't believe ya so much before smotpoker, but now I am buying this whole OSU in the Final Four deal. why not? they are just as qualified as any other big name program. they only have four loses and play in one of the toughest conferences. the one-two punch of Dials in the paint and there jay slingin' guards make them a tough team to beat. their transition play also is impressive.

I feel like a bandwagon fan for saying this, but as a fan of sports in general, how can you not feel Syracuse right now?? Gerry McNamara is on fire!! I have only recently started watching them a lot lately and they are doing some damage. they shocked Cincy, UCONN, and Georgetown tonight. it would be great to see them win the Big East Tourney Championship. I am going to pick them to go far in my bracket, they are gelling at the right time of the year.

OSU's next game against Indiana U scares me. they have been hot lately but seem to start out at a slow pace. if Ohio State can control the pace and make IU play at their game speed, then I think it could be an easy win.

it takes me awhile to get pumped about college hoops - but finally I am starting to get excited.

If OSU can shoot the lights out, they'll be hard to beat. The thing is, OSU relies so heavily on the 3 pt. shot that things can go south real fast against a tough defensive team, and their performances in the Big 10 Tourney showed they are prone to bad nights just like anyone else.

There's also an issue of having a difficult bracket to go through, and OSU does not have an easy road.

On the flip side, I LOVE the fact the Committee wants UCLA to do well in this tourney as they won't have to leave the state of California until Indy if they go that far. The road is set up quite well for them, though Marquette may give them some trouble in the second round, but seeing how that's going to be in San Diego, I'm confident the Bruins will be ready without any fatigue issues. Then there's Gonzaga as the no.3 and Memphis as the no.1...I'd love to see a rematch with the Tigers.

It's pretty amazing that a thoroughly dominant conference tourney run bumped the Bruins into the top no.2 seed...and hopefully it pays off with a solid tourney run.

It also scares me Digger and Dookie V both picked UCLA to go to the Final Four... the lofty expectations were supposed to be for NEXT year.

I'm surprised no one has posted anything since the NCAA tourny started.

So much for Syracuse and McNamara, they lost to Tex A&M.

But the Buckeyes won, that's all that really matters. :)

And at this point who knows who's gonna win it all. I mean even thou Duke ended up winning by double digits, they definitely struggled against Southern.

So far I think the most exciting games have been BC vs Pacific and Indiana vs SDSU.

So far the Big 10 is running the table, although Wisconsin it seems is about to blow it for the league. And finally everyone can shut up about the Big East. As I write this they are a dismal 0-3 in the Tourny.
