The Official Drug Related Literature Thread

bravenewworldtpb.jpg

I love that book! Just this week I read it again for the first time in years. I am on day 2 without my opiates, and the concept of living in a society where I am pacified by endless quantities of free and physically harmless mood-altering drugs is not sounding dystopic in the least to me right now.

Peace,

C.

I've been reading some Hunter S. Thompson stuff lately. I like his writing style.

Just started getting into Kingdom of Fear. It's one of his later books, written in early 2000's. Goes into stuff about his past and views on post 9/11 America and the like. Kingdom of Fear: Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child In the Final Days of the American Century is the full title. It's not my 'best one' but a good one I've been reading recently.

Great thread, btw. I'm always happily open to suggestions for good literature.

If this counts, then: Buzzed: The Straight Facts About the Most Used and Abused Drugs from Alcohol to Ecstasy
If not, I'll go with almost all of Bukowski's alcohol-soaked works ;)

SHANTARAM - Gregory David Roberts, this book transcends "drug" literature. You won't believe the shit this guy survived. This book would be fascinating minus the drugs.

Tweak - Nic Sheff, great read.

A Scanner Darkly - Philip K. Dick, great book, great movie.

Diary of a Drug Fiend - Aleister Crowley, definitely worth reading, he comes off as a douche though.

Scar Tissue - Anthony Kiedis, homeless fucking millionaire.

it was high school literature, at my school any way... Very cool book. So was George Orwells 1984

i preferred animal farm over 1984, both great books though.

one flew over the cuckoos nest by ken kesey

screwjack by hunter s thompson

beside already mentioned books I discovered 2 amazing books. both biographies.

first one is similar to Christiane F, I like it even better maybe. Also located in Germany (and Netherlands). It's translated in many languages and it's called "Let me survive the night: my life as a journalist and a junkie".
Second book is the one I just started reading. I finished a couple of chapters. So far so interesting.
The author is on the cover of the book. Arms are really hers and really damaged.
Doctors even told her that they will have to amputate her arms if she continues with shooting.
Reminded me of certain "Requiem for a dream" scene.

^ I read Dying to Survive. It's awesome, that chick is really an inspiration to get clean. Her life sounded so much like mine used to be...

And the "Requiem for a Dream" scene you are referring to nasty! I nearly threw up after watching that

Iv never heard of that. There's a few books in this thread I'm pretty keen to get my hands on. Cool thread imo

I was more insulted by A Million Little Pieces because it's bad writing than because it was bullshit. "And then the drill, the drill, the drill and my nails splintered and fuckfuckfuck." I'm insulted as a writer as well as a drug addict.
I thought Nikki Sixx's The Heroin Diaries was very honest and true. I didn't like the running "hind site is 20/20" running commentary about addiction. Same thing with Anthony Kieds' Scar Tissue. It doesn't matter how much money you have or whatever, heroin is still addictive.

Can't Find My Way Home is an awesome read. Very informative on the introduction and impact of drugs and their societal role on American history.

Also, Heaven And Hell by Aldous Huxley. This one touches on psychedelics, shamanism, divinity and the similarities between psychedelic (namely mescaline) experiences and spiritual ones. Great book.

Im trying to find the name of a book i read about psychedelics!

hey guys! i read a PDF file of a book a while ago and i cannot remember the name to save my life.
The book was about psychonauts and I'm sure it had the word in the name. It was about a girl who liked to trip often. Some lady finds her and brings her to her office where she gives her psychedelics and tries to show her the way of the psychonaut. Im doing a paper in psychology and want to use this book as a reference and source. i know this isnt very specific but any help would be appreciated!
