^^^ After virtually missing all of the Australia vs India series due to it only being on Pay T.V i was absolutely pissed off to hear that the Ashes wouldn't be on free to air television. I can't believe that both channel 9 and 7 have passed on the opportunity to air what is shaping up as a great series and possibly the best chance the Poms have had to win back the ashes in the last 15 years. I have been struggling for ages with whole idea of having to pay to watch television, but this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.:\

I have no problem with free to air tv. It offers enough programming to satisfy my viewing requirements and if I got cable I'd just be paying for a whole lot of tv that I'd never watch anyway.

So when the cricket is only broadcast on cable it really sucks. I wouldnt mind watching cricket as a pay per view event for overseas tests... but I'll be stuffed if I'm going to pay big installations and subscription costs to cable tv when all I want to watch is the cricket.

Clarke - Brilliant
Gilchrist - Brilliant

Tons all round.

If Aussies post a big score here the Kiwis will be in big trouble, they don't have the batting lineup and dpeth to post a big enough score in the 2nd innings to provide a winable lead for the Aussies to chase. I reckon if the Aussies have a first innings lead of 150 then the Kiwis will not win and will try and battle for a draw. However the way Gilly and Clarke are batting the lead will be a lot more than 150.
I'm in Melbourne and heading up to Brisbane tonight (saturday night), I think I might have to go to GABBA tomorrow. Woot!

I don't have a problem with both Foxtel and a free to air station covering the cricket. But what i wouldn't like to see is the free-to-air station grabbing the rights and then providing shitty coverage (like not showing the first session)

McGrath and Gillespie currently both on 34 not out. McGrath hit a huge six, love watching this. Please God I hope Piedgeon gets a 50. Fuck he is batting well, playing hooks, pulls, drives, good defense. Long bat the pidgeon.

SPEAKING OF SHITTY COVERAGE. THE WHOLE OF NSW AND VIC HAS JUST MISSED OUT ON SEEING GLENN MCGRATH SCORE HIS MAIDEN TEST 50 COS FUCKING CHANNEL 9 COULDNT WAIT 5 MINUTESS!#%(&)!#^JTJVFJ BEFORE PUTTING ON THE NEWS

Yeah fuckin channel 9....just another example of what i'm talking about. They're happy to show the cricket as long as it doesn't impact on any of their other precious programming. I mean we can't have the saturday news starting 5 mins late now can we 8)

^^ Oh fuck no, cos then it'd run into Australia's funniest home videos and that would be completely unacceptable!!!

I remember a couple of years ago watching Michael Parkinson as a guest on The Fat on ABC, and he made some comments about The Australin crickt team and how he thought they needed to learn how to be more gracious in victory. I was reminded of these comments while watching Gilchrist have a go at McMillan for not walking after giving an inside egde.

I just thought it was such a petty act when Australia had New Zealand 6 wickets down with a score under 70. Gilchrist has made his decision to walk but i find him trying to force the same ethic on opposition players out of line. The only person who can give a player out is the umpire(s), i can't see why a player should be verbally abused because he chooses to to let that umpire make a decision that is only his to make. I thought his stance to walk was one of sportsmanship, not a way to take the high moral ground and force his viewpoint on the rest of the cricketing world..:\

I was watching that ABC doco 'Cricket in the 80's' tonight and I was just struck by how strong Australian cricket is right now compared to years gone by.

It's like the only ever so slight weak link in our team is the quesiton of choice of a third pace bowler and possibly the question mark over whether it should be Lehmann or Katich in the middle order, all the rest of the batsmen and bowlers are firmly cemented in terms of their skill, experience and what they bring to the team.

Besides Michael Clarke being an awesome addition to the team it's also great to see his youth added to the ageing Australian line up. It's really great to see guys like that winning matches as well as trying to cement Australia's dominance as the worlds best team for future (5+) years as well.

Just to reinforce that point, how about when mccullum "edged" it when the ball the deviated off the crack and missed the bat by a good 3 inches? Gilchrist was in the best position of all to see this, yet led the appeal and made no protest when mccullum left the field. Now to defend gilchrist , the ball *did* look like it came off the edge to the naked eye and he just went up. But say for the sake of argument, gilchrist *knew* he'd missed it. Would he call him back and say to the umpire "nup, he missed it, bring him back"?

Speaking of parkinson, one of the best quotes i heard was of keith miller when he was interviewed by the said personality. Parkinson asked him about pressure in test cricket, and miller, having fought as a pilot in WW2 calmly replied "test cricket isn't pressure. Pressure is having a messerschmitt up your arse"
