The official antidepressant/psych meds thread

I didn't want some preachy bull shit advice. I asked a question: What anti-depressant is more likely to have weight loss as a side effect?
Back to the topic of the thread, I think my lexapro is actually making me depressed. I have been extremely lethargic lately. Hopefully it will even out after a few weeks. Has anyone else had bad side effects that went away after a few weeks?

sex - male
age - 20
current ad's - zoloft

first few weeks on it, it made me very happy almost euphoric, it was like been on speed all the time, i did eat and i didnt sleep and lost alot of weight. then that stoped and went into a bad depression wanted to sucidie etc, but still stuck with them because they were stopping my really bad panic attacks, after another month i was pretty stable, now ive been on them for almost a year and latley ive been getting that zombie feeling ppl talk about, just emotionless dont careabout shit anymore.. thinking after nye when i do meth (havent done meth or mdma for a year now) i might quit zoloft and see how i go or mabey change to paxil

I've tried a shit load of anti depressants, going back over 15 years. So far I have never been prescribed anything that makes me lose weight, usually the opposite.
I am so glad to hear I am not the only one who suffers uncontrollable munchies on Mirtazapine though. I had a friend who had Bullimia and my munchies on that screwd up drug matched hers. I would even eat plain slices of bread if nothing else was available.
My doctor shrugged this off but weight gain is something I cannot handle on top of my depression.
I've only recently found this web site, it's sad that doctor's aren't more forthcoming with the kind of information found here.
I only take those tablets now to knock me out, but they stay in my system for a couple of days. My doc told me that taking less of those tablets have a stronger effect (on sleep) and that taking allot of them can have the opposite...anyone experience this?
Remember taking a few a couple of years back and not being able to sleep for days, but had no energy, felt like shit, and wished for sleep.

I have depression, the only thing I've ever taken was wellbutrin, it worked wonders but my family doesn't have enough money for a steady supply. I used to get by with donations from doctors who recognized a serious case when they saw me.

How did iyou like the lamictal? I have like 3 refills but it makes me soooo lazy and not want to to do anything. Im 'bipolar' and am now on depakoke 250mg twice a day. The best drug for me was topamax at 400mg but the effects seemed to dissipate after 7-8 months. My psyc, im going to talk to him about topamax and depakote.

any thoughts?

Well, now I am on 400mg of Lamictil and it is the only thing that has ever worked for my bi-polar. The only thing. It is my miracle drug, I haven't had any mood swings in six months and it also keeps you more on the happy side of bi-polar (responsible for some anti-depressant effects). It doesn't make me lazy at all. This is living proof that different drugs work for different people. Especially when it comes to depression medication and bi-polar medication. You just have to keep trying out new meds. I thought that I was hopeless because Lithium, Depakote, and Tegretol all didn't work, even in combinations. The thing with Lamictil is that if you are going to go on it you have to do it under the supervision of a doctor because there is a specific way to gradually raise dose.

Here's what im prescribed:

1-2mg alprazolam/day; as needed (1mg tabs), for panic attacks.
5-10mg diazepam/day; or as needed (5mg tabs), for anxiety.
10mg zolpidem/day (10mg tabs) for insomnia.
60mg mirtazapine/day (30mg tabs); for depression & insomnia.
55mg/methadone/day (liquid); for opiate dependency.

I don't take the benzo's everyday, because i don't want to develop physical dependence; i've read too many descriptions of benzo withdrawals, which has instilled a healthy respect for these drugs, which seem so benign & safe.

wellbutrin is the only anti-depressant i know of that has consistantly shown weight loss... or at least didnt cause weight gain compared to ssris.. totally agreed on the lexapro though. when i was a 20 mg i emotionally flatlined, slept all day, was dizzy to points where i felt i was going to throw up.. i guess i wasnt depressed, i think i just sat in my room looking at dover clipart and sleeping all day, i didnt care.. dropped out of school, dropped out of life.... anyway im starting on wellbutrin tomorrow, and the pdoc and side effect sheet say weight loss.

^^^Doctors started me on Paxil about three weeks ago, and I rarely feel hungry anymore. I use to not eat awhole lot, but damn I really feel like I could probably go a whole day without eating and feel fine. I think I'm just gonna stop taking it, I feel no different than before, and now im not eating as usual.

Lexapro

totally agreed on the lexapro though. when i was a 20 mg i emotionally flatlined, slept all day, was dizzy to points where i felt i was going to throw up.. i guess i wasnt depressed, i think i just sat in my room looking at dover clipart and sleeping all day, i didnt care.. dropped out of school, dropped out of life....

That's so weird, Lexapro has done exactly the same thing to me. I just stopped going to class, stopped working out, procrastinate much more than I used to, and pull my hair out way more than I used to. (I am precribed for OCD and Trichotillomania, which is compulsive hair-pulling. I also have ADD but my doc doesn't trust me with the ADD meds :X ) Another really bad thing is the sexual side effects, it takes SO much longer to have an orgasm. The only thing it has helped me with is anxiety, I am far less paranoid and fearful about stuff, and I can even watch scary movies now without becoming a paranoid mess for months afterward.

I was actually thinking about Wellbutrin, another one is Effexor, maybe a combination of those two?
Also does anyone have similar problems as me that has found a med that has helped?

meds
Ativan 2mg
Trazadone 20mg
prozac 30mg
ritalin 30mg

The hardest thing with psycotropic medications is finding a good psyciatrist. Spend the most time researching these people. There are just to many out there that don't have a CLUE!! what they are doing.

Please read the complete results of all the clinical trials on Effexor. IIRC, no one actually had to drop out of the the Welbutrin trials due to extreme weight loss, but this a statistically signifigant number of the the patients in the Effexor in trials did.

I don't care. I'm just waiting until I can see a doctor who will put me on Cymbalta=D

Female - 20

Depression as a result of Anorexia (& some Bulimia, OCD & Self Harm). Was on Prozac (150mg) but it made me feel too hungry, which kind of exacerbated the eating disorder-related anxiety. So I'm was switched to Venlafaxine (Effexor), staring off at 75mg. I've been at 225mg for about eight months now, & things are much better for me. I'm stable & non-skeletal for the first time in years.

Obviously I've heard all the scary tales of major Venlafaxine withdrawl, even on low doses compared to mine. I guess I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it :\

iam 22 female
im currently on epilim and aurorix epilim 450mg a day and 350 aurorix a day i suffer from depression and there still working on what else is wrong :S

i used to take zoloft did nothing
effxorr or however u speel it i took that and couldn't move for days.

Currently im on:

Rx:
2 mg Xanax (On as needed to basis).
Effexor 225 mg, seems perfect when i get it up and running, i took 3 month for the real deal to kick in so dont give upp effexor after 2 weeks!
Stilnox 10 mg when needed for sleep.

I have Sonata and Propavan which are shit... i dont even thinking of the script... CRAP!

Good thing about Effexor is that every drug works on me except ecstacy (which i dont like, i like my brain in one piece), even acid works!

You will get the "problem to have an ejaculation during the 2 months, but then its back and its whacking time :D

Holy shit, you guys are on some crazy new pharms. All oral too I see.

Why not try something more popular, like physical execise? caffeine & nicotine? Try chewing tobacco. If that's not enough try cocaine and pot, or maybe some opiates. These drug companies are pushing bullshit at you for your money. Watch out.
