the official 2010 NFL thread!

that's true.

they play some random teams next (i think tampa bay? or something?) so hopefully they keep that "perfect" record clean! :)

what a great time to be a Pittsburgh Steelers fan - again! I feel like I say that every year, because it rings true almost every year.

what was the most exciting about the Vikings/Steelers game, from a Steelers fan perspective is that the Pittsburgh D looks to be back and in full force with the help of Polamalu. Pitt held the best running back in the world, unarguably, Adrian Peterson to a measly 69 yards. the last two defensive touchdowns by our always athletic linebackers was just beautiful football to watch. the Steelers haven't allowed a 100 yard rusher in around 25 regular season games. watching the Pittsburgh Steelers defense is like watching a beautiful painter like Guagin or Picasso, go to work. nothing excites me more in the NFL than a hard-hitting defense.

I wonder what Brett Favre's total record is against the Steelers? I don't remember him winning much games against the Steel Curtain, and I read an interesting Favre quote that had him saying that when he came to Minnesota and he looked at their upcoming schedule and saw the Steelers game AT PITTSBURGH... he just replied with "Ohh."

the Bengals absolutely stomped the Bears. Cedric Benson was on fire and proved why is the league's leading rusher. I don't think the Bengals can sweep both Pitt and Baltimore this year, but they look like the favorites to win the AFC North. I will let them have it - the last time they won the AFC North the Steelers absolutely stole the SuperBowl that faithful year.

the Saints looked human against the Miami Dolphins and their combined offense attack of Chad Henne and Ronnie Brown's wildcat abilities. while the Saints look great, they don't really have the toughest schedule in the world - I can't wait to see them play against a team like the Falcons - whom I believe they play next week.

the Patriots look good, but LL, I still say that they are above average. against horrible teams they do put up a lot of points, but put them against teams that have their shit together - and they haven't been so strong. once they get another quality win (besides the Falcons game) I will be a believer... but until then they are back in their very ugly AFC East conference - not many quality wins there.

discussion topic - what conference do you all think is the best in the pro football? is it still the Beast (NFC East)? or can it be the NFC South (unlikely) or can it be the AFC North? once the Bengals play well, the AFC North can be the toughest conference because you know Pitt and Baltimore will hit you in the mouth.

I love this game!!

Texans are so difficult for me on my weekly Pick-Ems. will they win? or are they going to just sit on the fence and not decide on if they are a good football team or a bad football team?

why do you like the NFC South? what heat can they pack besides the Falcons and Saints?

Damm its good to be a Saints fan!!

What a comeback against Miami!! The offense put us in a HUGE whole....But they redeemed themselves in the 2nd half...The Dolphins and Sporano gave us a few breaks (that timeout before the half was retarded)....But the Saints made the plays they needed to win...

Im glad they got the experience of being in the hole like this....Its the first time they trailed all season....

Mike Bell, who didnt play all 1st half, and the running game gave us a huge spark to mount the comeback....ITs the one HUGE difference from last year and the year before....We're not all Brees anymore...Shockey came up big too with that 66yrd catch in which he stiff armed the safety for abnout 20 yrds...Classic Shockey right there!

And I LOVE the defense this year....They'll give up some big plays here and there but thats the downside of Greg Williams aggressive scheme....But they make more plays than they give up....FS Darren Sharper already has 6 INT's and 3 of those are pick 6's....Unbelieveable!!

Saints are def the real deal this year....Another HUGE test and game this week against the dirty birds....We'll see how they respond..

Saints VS Falcons will be a great game. I love the Saints this year, they are playing superb football. it just sucks because I think that they are the only really great team in the NFC. I think that Brett Favre will have another late-season meltdown. the Saints should have an easy path to the SB - that is if they can shake up the preconceived notion that they usually choke in the playoffs.

overall, I think that besides the Saints - the AFC overall is better coached, playing sexier football, and is a tad more classier.

It was nice to see the Steeler's D gain a little swagger back in the 4th Qtr. It remains to be seen if it was Troy's presence or not (good time for him to get a bye week and heal up some more). Frickin Mendenhall is running great but those fumbles hurt, especially when you are trying to put the dagger in the other team. As good as the Steelers are, even from last season, they still have not had that signature punch you in the mouth finishing drive in a while. Wrap the ball up Mendy!

The Saints were finally tested and responded with excellence. Best team in the NFL right now, no doubt.

I notice no one is talking about the Cards again. How can the defending NFC champs not get any discussion? Granted they are in a perennial weak division but they just beat the Giants, on the road (East coast!) and in primetime. That is a rarity for them.

Best division right now......good topic. I'd say a toss up between the AFC & NFC North. They both have stinkers (Cleveland, Detroit), they both have schizophrenics (Chicago, Baltimore) and they both have 2 very good teams (Vikes/Packers & Steelers/Bengals). Although, the Bengals have yet to put a full winning season together since 2005 I think so the jury is still out on them. But, they do look pretty good right now and I've always respected Carson Palmer.

could call on the best conference pro football being between the AFC North and the NFC North. I knew that the Bengals were going to be something special (as announced on the first pages of this thread) - and when Cincinatti is good that makes the AFC North so difficult to compete in between the perpetual power houses in Baltimore and Pitt.

what tickles me about how good the NFC North is, is that immediately after last NFL's season they were dubbed one of the weakest conferences (and Steelers fans rejoiced in America because that was the OOC games we were playing. but with some big-time off-season additions, they are some serious contenders as well this year.

the Arizona Cardinals are back on track, winning big games on the East coast since what seems like forever. Hightower had diminished playing time in NYC due to his fumbles, but what made me happy - as a person that is a Buckeye till he dies - is that Beanie Wells played very exceptional. he had some fumbles, but it was really his first time seeing lots of playing time. Beanie Wells is going to be good, despite his chicken legs his body is packed with muscle and he is decently fast.

last year's draft was great to see two RBs in Beanie Wells and the University of Georgia's Knowshown Moreno make their NFL starts. I love watching good RBs go at on the professional football level, it is a true form of art because the NFL defenses are so intelligent and get to the ball so quick.

that being said, I'm sure you all were eagerly waiting on my top 10. who ya'll got?

Axl's NFL Top Ten:

1. Colts - we should all be writing in Peyton Manning for MVP already
2. Saints - Miami made them look human, but it was great to see them come up when tested
3. Bengals - good defense and those who have Carson Palmer in fantasy are grinning
4. Steelers - the Steel Curtain defense looks back on track, with 4 straight wins
5. Vikings - great defensive/offensive line + great RB + great rookie + good QB play = tough
6. Broncos - undefeated, but I want one more signature win to take em seriously
7. Patriots - destroyed cupcakes teams in Tennessee and Tampa Bay
8. Cardinals - two signature East Coast wins and now they're suddenly relevant
9. Falcons - despite their loss, they have a solid offensive football team
10. Giants - I might get some flak for dropping them this low, but their secondary has so many holes I believe that if they played the top 9 teams in 9 straight weeks (with their current situation and current playing) they would only win a game or two

3. Bengals - good defense and those who have Carson Palmer in fantasy are grinning
I have Cedric Benson, considering I got him in like the 13th round, I am grinning.
Shortly after I took Miles Austin...gotta love when sleepers come through:D

the NFL isn't as fun when the Steelers are on a bye week. a big showdown is in the works for Monday Night when the Black and Gold challenge the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium.

Axl's Week 9 Top Ten:
1. Saints - beat a Wildcard-ready Falcons team, rest of their schedule is a joke
2. Colts - Manning had a bad day, but still racked up 300 yards
3. Vikings - Favre got revenge!
4. Bengals - next two games: Ravens and Steelers
5. Steelers - the Steel Curtain defense is back on track
6. Broncos - fending off the visiting Steelers won't be easy
7. Patriots - Tom Brady is good
8. Eagles - visions of the Raider beat down are still ripe in my head
9. Cowboys - I hate to say it, but this team is creepin on the come up
10. Falcons/Ravens - the first tie in the history of my top 10 lists!

01. Colts
02. Saints

<huuuuuuge drop-off>

03. Vikings
04. Patriots
05. Cowboys
06. Steelers
07. Ravens
08. Eagles
09. Bengals
10. Chargers

Really, the Cowboys at #5? Other than perhaps the Chargers, I'd place every other team on your list ahead of them.

Can't wait to see the game tonight.

actually, LOVELIFE has almost got it right. except there isn't a huge drop-off in the AFC behind the Colts as there is in the NFC behind the Saints. besides the Saints, the AFC is better coached, more athletic, and classier than the NFC.

the Colts lost their stud safety Bob Sanders for a year (AGAIN!!). I expect major holes to appear in the secondary, and in the playoffs teams with good QBs like Ben Roethlisberger or Carson Palmer or Tom Brady to literally pick them apart.

Axl's Much Anticipated Week 10 Top 10:

1. Saints
2. Colts
3. Bengals
4. Steelers
5. Patriots
6. Vikings
7. Cowboys
8. Denver
9. Atlanta
10. Arizona

I think my list is kinda controversial this week? what do you all think? am I getting some things right or wrong? it's just so difficult to pick only the top 10 contenders when the NFL is literally littered with talent right now. just ask Baltimore or the New York Football Giants or the San Diego Chargers.
