Update on the venue situation:
They have promised me that they will call me back this afternoon with a time to go in for a meeting to discuss the details.

No, I go to uni there. I tend keep that quiet, people give me funny looks when they find out 8(, especially when I'm wide eyed and gurning when they ask. The 25th of October falls within term time so I'd have to travel from there.
I've travelled from there to a few places, but during the week so haven't experienced a Sunday at the station. Hopefully it wouldn't be too bad.
 
Venue update: The venue we had been banking on up until a few days ago told us they wouldnt know for a few weeks if it would be available or not... In the mean time we have been scouting for other places but things are unfortunately looking a bit grim. Most clubs here have a regular saturday night so they dont hire out. We've looked at a few pubs with function rooms, but most of the places we saw close really early (2 at the very latest) and one of them was opposite a police station.... We still have some leads to follow up tomorrow but we may need a contingency plan.


On a related note: we did find a place that would have been good but theyre booked on the 25th. To those of you who booked plane tickets and such BEFORE WE HAD A VENUE BOOKED please think before you act next time.

I agree that it would've been a good idea to wait until we had a venue before booking something but telling people off now hardly helps.

We'll get back to you after this afternoon's outing. If nothing comes of it we'll call Mashed's venue tonight though I daresay it's booked.

Sorry we haven't been keeping people 100% updated.. I guess we wanted to be sure we had somewhere before saying anything else. Unfortunately, I've spent the last 3 nights walking around town with RR, on the phone, harrassing everyone I can think of to find something and so far nothing's come up. There are still a few hopes:
The original venue still doesn't know for sure whether we can use it or not since they're not sure when they're doing their refitting, I have to wait a week for them to get back to me.
I can still call the mashed venue - although if we decide to do it in london someone else will have to do the liasing.
A friend says they know someone with a pub with a large function room but I'm waiting to hear back.
There's a club in Nottingham that's been recommended by some people from TranceAddict.. we'll call them too.

I found one venue that was pretty good, a dodgey little irish pub that said they'd stay open 'all night unless they got raided', had a function room that would fit about 100 in a squeeze with a fair bit of room on the fire escape for chill-out... the only problem being that it's booked on the night in question. The weekend before is free though..?

Are plane tickets alterable?

Oh yeah, it's free to hire, we'd only need to worry about getting equipment. And there'd be no security as it'd be a private party.

advice/thoughts?
 
ON a related note, there is a downstairs room in the sanctuary that sundissential dont normally use that wem ight be able to, the only prblem being that the sound system sux and it will probably cost a lot to hire.

But basically as jinx said, things are looking grim... If we hear back negatively from the original venue this weekend then we pretty much give up on the organisational front - we've looked everywhere in brum, if we cant get this place then it will either have to be on a different date or someone else will have to organise it in some other city.

If everything else fails, our last course of action is to take everyone to sundissential, but we dont know if the lineup will be any good for a month or so yet.
 
We all appreciate the amount of work that you put in to resolve this matter. Believe me, I am just like you and want nothing else than to party all night long at some amazing club, with all the fellow bluelighters.

hijinx, the plane tickets are not refundable nor alterable in any way, but because I want this to work I'm ready to book new ones on a different date. But I think that my plane tickets wasn't the only problem, several other people had problems coming due to other issues.

Keep up the good work and keep us updated as you progress. When you have a definite venue, contact me and I will have a look at the travel arrangements.

Do we absolutely have to hire a club? Obviously it would be a lot better and thanks for putting on your organising hat :), but if the worst comes to the worst and there is absolutely nowhere, we could still go and get twatted in someone elses club? We had a couple at the fridge a couple of years back which worked quite well...
 
^^ as i suggested above, if we cant organise anything else we will just take everyone to sundissential
 
Pardon my ignorance, but what is sundissential. I guess I must be some party that's already in the making. Info?
 
sundissential is a hard house night at the Sanctuary, in the style that gatecrasher used to be at the republic. Kinda ratty old club bt its big and the music is good (as long as you like hard house) altho its pretty much the same from one week to another.
 
i wasnt refering to the music style so much as the kind of event, ie a promotional night at a club
