Megathread The OFFICAL Anime Appreciation Megathread! vers Moshi Moshi

psychetool: i totally forgot cowboy beebop and trigun! these (especially trigun) just occupy a separate place in my list :-D

B240C: Bleach is one of the most commercially successful series in japan right now, its sponsored by like Sony, Bandai, P&G and god knows who else, yet its not a Naruto or DB on-going lunacy.. You just can't miss with a series like this one, trust me..

it's more of a multicultural channel.

but IO, according to their schedule, 10pm tonight is just GITS: Stand Alone Complex. No Miyazaki tonight.

I was about to post about this but you beat me to it =D

I havnt been home on thurs nights to watch this due to work. I have only ever seen the movie, hows it rate?

I've been watching anime alot recently, I'm not allowed to use the computer after 6pm during weekdays so I basically spend 6pm - 11pm watching anime right now I'm watching season 7 (final season) of ranma 1/2 which is fantastic. I've got a few other things I've downloaded / lined up:

Ranma Movies / OVAs (downloaded the complete set)
Angelic Layer
Great Teacher Onizuka
Kite
Ping Pong Club
Rah Xephon
Goldenboy and season 3 of Rurouni Kenshin

gee I've got alot to watch :\ I took a break or something from watching anime and I am going back and watching alot of the things I was watching before I left and it's fun playing catch up.

^ I'm a cheap bastard so I just download them, convert ogm to avi, burn them, and watch them on my dvd player.

Nah I don't really watch anime on TV I prefer the sub as that's how it was intended to be shown. I really like what I've seen from rurouni kenshin funny and dead serious at times :D and GTO from what i've seen very little I loved it. I'm getting the torrent of the entire series right now.

I saw a really awesome anime film the other day called Memories. It's a collection of three vignettes, based on old manga shorts written by Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira. Each episode has a different director, the last one directed by Otomo himself, and are thematically unrelated. The first short, The Magenetic Rose, deals with futuristic space junk collectors. The second episode, Stink Bomb, is about a guy who inadvertently turns himself into a biological weapon, and the third is about a city that shoots cannons into the sky all day, called Cannon Fodder. All the animation is amazing and each vignette has it's own unique style and feel. Cannon Fodder is especially interesting from a motion picture perspective because it is done all in one continous shot.

It's really amazing.

^^ Thats cause FMA is one of the best fucking animes out there. The plot is amazing and the characters back it up perfectly. Bebop and FMA are the only animes known to draw a tear to my eye.

80 posts and no mention of Tenchi Muyo!? I'm shocked! :)

I love aniime and would agree with a lot of others about Cowboy BeBop - it's my favourite series too. My favourite movie has to be Princess Mononoke - although Spirited Away and Akria push it close. Other movies worth a mention are Cowboy BeBop: The Movie and all the other Ghibli stuff.

Also like Trigun, Outlaw Star, Evangelion (WIth the proper episode 25 & 26), Dominion Tank Police, and quite a few others. Only series I didn't like was Legend of Escaflowne. Very poor IMO.

Anime rules :)

I saw Milennium Actress at a recent anime festival. Great fucking movie. I'd say as good as Perfect Blue but completely different from it. MA is not scary at all, and at times made me wonder where it was going, but the end was pay dirt.

Small bubump.

Has anyone seen basilisk? Awesome series. The plot is pretty easy to follow, but the graphics make up for everything. Simply amazing.

The only thing shitty about it is that I can only find 19 of the 24 episodes. :(

Btw, just seen a little of howl's moving castle and, well, it's just no spirited away.. Still a good film nonetheless.

Sure has, but I'm still somewhat dissapointed with it. The ending just sucks, what a way to rape a movie, other than that, aside from the crappy beginning and the non-existant, or weak plot, it's a good film.

can anyone recommend any movies similiar to Ghost in the Shell. By that I mean sci-fi, lots of computer stuff, futuristic, and with lots of gun play. Im checkin out Akira and The Animatrix there the closest ones I could think of.

I LOVE TOEI ANIMATION. They made my favorite cartoons way back in the Seventies...little Mermaid, the Swan, Little Women, and candy Candy.

Spriggan has got some of the stuff you're looking for. You're probably better off watching series though, if you're into that kind of style.

Someone give me some more details on wolfs rain. What's it like, what can you compare it to?

Have you seen evangelion before. It is fantastic I recommend it alot :)

I'm still watching this Kino's Journey / Travels philosophical anime. It's pretty good but I took a break in it and watched Ninja Scroll which was fantastic =D

Yea, Ninja Scroll is my all-time favorite. My old BL avatar is of Jubei. Movie is fucking badass.

Whats this about a second Ghost in the Shell movie, Ive never heard of it. Is it anygood? Made by the same people?

Also, whats the name of the anime with the main character fights demons with a revolver and shit. I think he maybe a demon himself, I dunno Ive never seen it.

^^^^Nevermind on the last question, I found it, it was Hellsing. Im gonna check it out.

wolfs rain is very deep...if you can see past the pretty lights and colors that attract most to anime (like if youre into the deeper aspect of GITS:SAC or paranoia agent). its a very "emotional" anime, its prob the only one ive ever shed a tear while watching. after getting to know all the characters so well....and how it ends...its just so fucking sad. its a very fitting ending though.. maybe too fitting :\

Damn, yeah I've downloaded the series, just done watching ep 26, and yeah, pretty emotional series, very sad indeed. I watched the first 2 episodes and thought, what the hell have they made, but it builds up pretty well and you really get involved with all the characters, great storyline.

I dunno about ghost in the shell though.. First movie was "okay", but innocence really sucked, I was really let down, didn't like it at all.

I also don't like what they've done with the guyver, they've begun to make remakes of the series and damn, what a bunch of crap.. The animation just sucks, there's less gore, they've changed the script a little so it's even worse, just all-round bad, don't buy/download it, or do if you're curious as to how shitty it is.

If you like ninja scroll, seriously, download basilisk, AWESOME series, non-stop action, almost every other episode there's another character that dies, etc.. I'll see if I can get a little clip online. GONZO studio's really have outdone themselves.
