Megathread The OFFICAL Anime Appreciation Megathread! vers Moshi Moshi

heh the kid that hacks in Cowboy BeBop is a girl named Radical Edward :)

also recommended:
Wonderful Days
war in a post-apocalyptic setting (sure, not too original) with amazing blends of animation and computer graphics.

i can't remember the name of this other one that was good (and not mentioned in previous posts).. dammit.. it was about scientists finding the "real" noah's ark, which is some kind of multidimensional spaceship, and a special agent trained from childhood who goes on a mission to.. well uh.. save the world from the destructive power of the ship.

you might also be interested in anime series. Ghost in the Shell has a series called Stand Alone Complex that is VERY VERY good. the stories are all complex and exciting. the action is amazing.

Cowboy BeBop the series is also preferred to the movie by most fans. the writing is fantastic, and everything else fits perfectly.

Samurai Champloo series
GITS: Stand Alone Complex series
X series
Full Metal Alchemist

Whats up with everyone recommending series ? Movies people, movies...

I especially liked the Lupin the 3rd movies, castle of caligriostro(sp?) was great. Awesome 3D stuff integrated with the movies, and as with all lupin series animation, more sexual inuendos then you can shake a stick at!

Oh, and i'm gonna have to say that Vampire Hunter D is not going to be your style unless you are a serious anime fan. Even then, I got a bit bored with it...

The End of Evangelion (End and rebirth whatever)
Akira
Metropolis
Ninja Resurrection
Dark Stalkers or Vampire Hunter or Vampire Savior i dont remember now.

I want to watch both inuyasha and full metal alchemist. Havnt gotten arround to it yet. But lately I've been watching through the evangelion series again for some reason.

Also theres a doco on Hayao Miyazaki one of the greatest in the biz of japanese animation. After that theres one of my favourite animes "porco rosso". On tonite from 10pm on sbs for those playing at home.

Thanks, IO. I'll check it out. Love Miyazaki stuff. Princess Mononoke is my favourate animated movie.

www.sbs.com.au

it's more of a multicultural channel.

but IO, according to their schedule, 10pm tonight is just GITS: Stand Alone Complex. No Miyazaki tonight.

Anime fest in Aus

ReelAnime
For a very limited time in select cinemas around Australia , Madman Cinema presents REELANIME, showcasing the freshest anime this side of Tokyo as well as some classics from the vault.

As the profile and enthusiasm for Japanese animated films and culture grow stronger within the loyal fan community, and begin to evolve amongst arthouse cinema goers, REELANIME launches in 2005 with the aim to produce an ongoing showcase event that celebrates the latest as well as the classics, on the big screen with big sound.

REELANIME features the eagerly anticipated Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence for the first time in Australian cinemas, directed by the award-winning Mamoru Oshii and nominated for the Palm d'Or award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Accompanying Innocence will be Oshii's hugely popular and now cult classic, Ghost in the Shell

Also showing in REELANIME will be Appleseed, an awesome display of the very best in CGI animation; the unforgettable Millennium Actress (from the director of Perfect Blue, Satoshi Kon); and Escaflowne: The Movie, based on the phenomenal anime series of the same name.

REELANIME will kick off in Sydney (October 6-16) at Dendy Opera Quays, then travel to Melbourne (October 20-30) at Kino Dendy Cinemas; Brisbane (November 3-13) at Dendy Brisbane; Adelaide (December 8-14) at Palace Nova ; and Perth (December 15-21) at Luna Outdoor.

I got tickets to GITS2 next tuesday. I know it's old but this is the first time here.

Fullmetal Alchemist
Lupin the 3rd
Case Closed
Ghost in the Shell

Anime that I think SUCKS :
Paranoia Agent
DBZ

Not enough action. Not enough character developement for me to relate with them. Cheesy japanese porn stuff with pudgy old guys. Not cool.

Actually, I did and it sucked. The characters just arn't 'cool' like in the animes I watch. When they come on the screen I quiver with anticipation and a smile spreads over my face to see the familiar hero on another quest for glory... For instance the relationship between spike, faye, jet, and ed.
