I've been meaning to finish
Serial Experiments Lain. I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch from the start, sober this time, because there's so much to take in despite how slow the story seems to move.
Animatrix was really an excellent film in the same vein of consciousness-challenging sci-fi. It's a collection of shorts set in the Matrix universe but it expands into a bunch of different avenues with different art styles and brings so much depth to the whole idea underlying the Matrix. It's really a feast for all of your senses (minus touch, obviously).
I loved everything about the third Rebuild. For one, the OST is sombre and awesome. For two, the plot was so completely unexpected that it took me a while just to digest what I had seen. There are so many questions posed, and I bet in an homage to NGE most will probably not even be addressed in the final Rebuild but at the very least it's one hell of a build-up to what will come next.
The trailer is worth a watch just to hear the Ending theme which is pure sex on a hot skillet
