The new and improved Smackie thread; respectable junkies

Yeah the book is primary (if not entirely) an autobiography. The women Candy was based on is an artist in Melbourne now I believe.

Forgive me jumping in here, i'm new, but was drawn to this thread for some reason, and i ultimately find discussion on Candy. So easily one of Australia's most engaging films. i'm fascinated to know which artist it's based on, if that's the case (and not doubting the suggestion).

It was based on a book written by Luke Davies....I don't think it's really fair to gossip beyond that.
The film's got nothing on the book IMO. Grab yourself a copy of the book, it's a pretty intense read.

You big tease. The dude created a bluelight account just to ask you that question. He even called himself 'hopefulraymond' - the dude was really hoping that a well read man like yourself could help him out with some knowledge. But instead, he is going to be left contemplating for the rest of his life. I just hope that you didn't kill Raymond's hope.

Shame on you, Spacejunk.

I hope you are proud of yourself Spacejunk. Something tells me we won't be seeing Raymond again after that.

Prick.

<scratching head> cheers folks. i'll continue hoping. good point about not wanting to gossip though, i have to admit.

^^ fence sitter much?? ^^ ;) thanks for the welcome.

Eh...what?
I think people's privacy is important.
No offence, Raymond - but what the fuck guys?
Bluelight is a victims-of-literature stalkfest now???

Spacejunk I brought up your post to Raymond with my psychiatrist. Now he's got me on a heavy regime of anti-psychotics to deal with the PTSD flashbacks I've been suffering. Thanks a lot.

I'll have to get around to reading the book, I've only seen the movie and it was a good watch.

Anyone read anything about some smack in Melbourne that's been cut with a stimulant? I saw it on a harm reduction website and wondered why someone would do that.

That sounds awful. I can't imagine anything worse than pressing down the plunger expecting that warm embrace and instead breaking out into a sweat while my heart rate doubles. No thanks!

all good, SJ, and certainly no offence taken. I don't want to have my first few posts on this board - a board which i have used as a guide book/gospel for i don't know how many years - to make me out to be a gossiper. sorry if that was the impression anyone got. i'm allfor privacy.

Hey everyone, I haven't written in forever... I absolutely loved the book Candy, and the movie too. I was in exactly the same kind of relationship, so I could largely relate to that story, even though I was lucky enough to never have to sell myself, nor have I lost a child. I split up with him after nearly 4.5 years of doing H together. There was no point carrying on. He's been clean for 5 years now but I... I still dabble. There was a time in my life where I'd watch Candy everyday for weeks on end. So sad but so, so true.

Another excellent movie is Little Fish. Set in Cabramatta around the turn of the century when the H scene there was enormous, it has an amazing cast (Cate blanchett, sam neill, hugo weaving in an amazing performance as a retired footie player turned addict) and is a really nice change of pace from the 'boy meets girl meets heroin and they all go tumbling down' cliche. Really can't recommend it enough.

Yeah it's a good one. Has the feel of one of those dark Australian art house films despite the all-star cast.

Might even be nostalgic for those who were involved in the whole Viet smack scene while it was still booming.

Hi, i have a quick question-
The other day coming home from work at 6pm, i got off the train and walked home on the foot path and there was a young lady laying on the medium strip facing the footpath who was drawing in a needle while her friend who was probably in her 40's was clearly very high. Everyone walking infront of me didn't see exactly what they were doing until they got very close. By the time i saw what was happening i was literally walking over her arms which were holding the needle. We had to literally walk over them.

I wanted to say something and ask them to move because not even 50m away is a primary school and a big park where kids play all the time.
How would I talk to someone and ask them to move to somewhere more private? I felt very uncomfortable that this was happening so close to children.

I've never done H or any other opiets before so I'm not sure what their state of mind was at the time. Would they have even cared? It would have been impossible to not see the school

I doubt it would make a difference, anyone desperate enough to shoot up on the sidewalk isn't going to hold out for somewhere more responsible because they were admonished by a random stranger one time.

^ You can most definitely get addicted to heroin just by sniffing it, if you use heroin daily by any ROA for long then you will encounter withdrawal symptoms when you try and stop using the drug.

Best advice to avoid heroin addiction if you choose to take the stuff is to do so as infrequently as possible. IV use would carry higher risks of addiction (as well as an increase in pretty much every risk associated with heroin use) than other ROA's but you could even get addicted taking heroin orally.
