the guitar players megathread

I love my squier tele, though I'll have a jazzmaster when I can afford one and play it right.
I use a digitech delay(the best!) and a boss sd-1 overdrive for crunch.
I like to tune my guitar unorthodoxically, drop d, d#, whatever I fell like doing to tune within a scale(thank you thurston...)
I need a better amp, but I think I've saved myself some noise complaints...

for delay I like the Line 6 DL-4 or the Boss DD-20, but currently I have a Digitech RP- 20 (crappy and old multi-effects unit) and my Visual Sound H20 for delay. I try to never use my Digitech multieffect unit ever in public due to tone, but I'd want to get something with a tap setting, the H20 only has a knob for setting the delay speed, but it still has great tone.

^Technically speaking, Kurt doesn't have a grave. Part of his ashes were scattered under a tree next to the house where he killed himself, some in the Wishkah river around ten year after his death, and I believe Courtney has what's remaining.

Coincidentally, I was so close to bidding on a red Jag-Stang yesterday. Funnily enough, I would have got it for like £400 cuz nobody else bid on it and it went unsold. I'm not too bothered cuz I was never 100% keen on the shape of the thing. It's just I've always been a big Nirvana fan so kinda wanted it.

Also, my Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive pedal arrived the other day. I've been havin' muchos fun toying around with it. It's a really nice, crisp sounding overdrive. I'm more than happy with it, and recommend it to anyone else looking for a quality overdrive effects box. :)

oh man...

bites tongue and spits - i guess
now i doubly so have to go:-)

yeah, thats a most representable guitar; something for another day.

did anyone ever have a RAT distortion BOX-hehe.???
those were the shit - Obituary would use them.
thick distortion very warm.

hmm, do any of you regularly put a, or some stickers on your guitars?
or do you just leave "it" alone.

i usually put 1 sticker, hehe, and i love watching the fret boards ware over time,,, can be telling. the standard chord configurations always show, but so do your most comfortable ranges.

I stopped putting stickers on my guitars years ago. I dunno, I just can't bring myself to do it any more.

Sometimes I don't change my strings for like a year. I clean them after use, but once they start buzzing and feeling crappy I whip them off. But yeah, over that length of time, you can usually see exactly where you've been playing on the fretboard the most. :)

I just won this delay pedal on ebay (I better calm down a bit now!). So I guess I'd better forget about the Aqua Puss. This one's pretty damn awesome though.

shoegazer?!?lol

i guess anything for the kicks

i like to use slinky d'adorra electric strings on my acoustic,,, have changed them once in,,, 5 years?!?
:-\

thats just sloppy - heheh

anyone use their thumb to grab the low-E string to help configure chords?
i ususally mute the A though doing this with Bar chords or G for instance

Anyone here make their own pedal board? I have enough effects that I need to put them on a pedal board to save time when I go to practice(and hopefully at some point shows). It`s time consuming to unpack all of my stomp boxes then connect `em all,get my amp set up,tune up my bass AND then start to play around.
I`ve been looking at some of the popular pedal boards(like Pedal Train and Gator) along with a power supply and while some are pretty affordable, more than a few are kind of pricey. Then when you add the cost of a power brick to that the price can be a bit much.
So my friend(also a guitar player) and I plan on making home made boards. It`ll save us money and be a fun thing to do together. Wood, hardware,Velcro and some paint should be cheap enough. Plus we found some DIY sites out there to start us off.
I have a work bench in my basement and got a power drill and a bit set for Christmas last year. I dont think we`ll need much more than a saw and some beers to have fun and make something. So fellow BL guitarists? Any words of wisdom to share?

^awesome man

ive helped make a reverb pedal once.

its great, gathering different sized springs and materials of varying conductivity.

you could --
make a battery bank, with four 'golf-cart' batteries, if you are handy with the electros, or confident; as in safe rather; able to write the schematic of -w/o a DIY. keep some distilled water around and youll be good with that for a looong time to power several pedal boards, and a few more 'low amp rated' pieces of hardware.

You helped make a fucking reverb pedal? That`s pretty cool. You also just blew me away with your battery bank idea. It`s also totally over my head! I`m just looking to make wooden or possibly Plexiglas pedal board.
After looking around ebay I found some pretty cheap boards. But for me and my buddy making our own boards is really just an excuse to hang out and goof around.

hehe

the re-verb pedal thing is alarmingly simple, you can mess around with different width of thin-wiry-copper or w/e, different materials will carry different electrical currents passing through as different sound frequencies.

like your guirar pick-ups , magnetic resonance.

also the shape or using multiple smaller coiled springs ganged together will add if you can imagine, a more spacious wide echo effect. much the same as if you flicked it with your finger, boig-yoing-yoing hehe.,

the trickiest part is a soldering iron.

these are really nice...you'll have loads of fun messing with sound and depth.

My friend has a f-hole tele, with a rat and one of these...it sounds so good!

yea, I'm not really good with it (my thumbs are kinda short in comparison to my fingers)
though I'll use it to put a different base note on some open chords--or just mess around to see what sounds good.

If i'm in a dropped tuning, sometimes i'll use the thumb for bottom-ended bar chords too

this band, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, opened for the smith westerns last friday.
Their guitarist used the same red Jag-stang, While I'm not to keen on looks the man could fucking play, and the jag-stang seemed pretty good for feedback/trick playing.

I've never seen any guitarist do some of the things this guy could do-and he wasn't much for pedal use either. Much respect for the man and his machine!

Thanks., I'm sure I will. Still waiting on it to arrive cuz it was only posted yesterday.

I've impulsively bought three pedals in the last month cuz I got a close up of my favourite guitarists pedal board. :D

If anyone can identify the pedals besides the Boss chromatic tuner, Sparkle Drive, Boss RV-3, and Ibanez flanger I'd appreciate it. :)

What guitarist??

purple--magnetic repeater?? Idk, that's what I read when I flipped around
Boss Digital reverb(pretty sure the one you have

Person looks like they use an orange amp(love those!) and that white pedal would be an amp specific channel switcher

i can't read any of the others or recognize any feature except for the foot pedal on that yellow one (though complete blank on brand...)
