the guitar players megathread

hey yeah thanks. i like your lo fi tracks reminds me of the microphones and some mogwai influence. sounds like there are crickets in the background too which is relaxing. i dunno, maybe put a drum beat in using ableton thats usually fun. sounds like you have a nice guitar what is it?

lately ive been getting mentally ill again so havent found the energy to do much :(

na, not sure what that hissing is. Maybe the comp mic is picking up atmospherics(ac?) The guitar amp goes straight to comp through usb. I do use ableton, but haven't half a clue as to how to make a good beat--maybe collaborating with people in the future in which case i'll do some beats or get someone to drum.

Guitar is pictured on the soundcloud and earlier in the thread, it's a telecaster--squier though.
Some of the recordings were done with a squier strat a friend is lending to my brother. I just wanted to play it because I'd put some elixir lights on it and I play with nickel plated steel mediums normally.

You must be buying up half the pedals on eBay TG ;) !

Fixed - Sounds like the Fender Mustang II is pretty good going by the reviews on ultimate-guitar. Especially for the price it goes.

On the subject of amps, does anyone have any experience with this one:

Marshall Haze 40C .... been wanting to splash out on a valve amp for a while now but still have to save up a bit! But soon hopefully :)

I had a look over the Marshall demo on the website and it sounds like it gets some lovely tones. It also has Reverb, 'Vibe' (not come across that before myself) and Chorus.

The only thing I'll miss from my Line 6 Spider II is the tape echo I think, love using it! I won't have any money left after getting this bad boy but I think I ought to branch out into some pedals soon.

I don't use anything particularly special as far as amps are concerned. The main one I use is a crusty ol' Rhino RGA-15, I bought it second hand around 15 years ago. But I really like the distortion you get from it. I've hardly seen any more of these anywhere.

The other one I got as a replacement, but I hardly use it. I guess I should put it to use a bit more. T'is an Orange Crush 20L.

Do you not like it that much? What are your thoughts on it? I've never heard an orange amp myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'm curious why you don't use it

I've played a les paul and an f-hole tele out of one--I like them. What sold me on the mustang is that my sales rep ditched his orange for the mustang.
I recommend it for sure.

^^^and chattative, I haven't heard anything about that particular marshall, but tube marshalls are really nice in general--that looks like a good semi-performance amp

There's a much better quality recording than the other one I posted. I don't know what I was thinking posting something so shitty before.
Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix is one of my favorite songs ever, and I love playing it.
This has decent guitar playing and shitty singing, sorry about that, but I hope you enjoy.

The good news is I finally have my recording capabilities back with this computer, so I can do so much stuff now! I can collaborate with other BLers, and do it all. I'm back in the game baby!
I just got it all up and running today.

Nice man, your a much better player than me. I watched a video of your band--is that you with black hair, the sunburst strat--and the wierd playing style; i mean just reverse hand atttack?

And don't apologize for the other track--I've been vomiting my uncut guitar playing...

Thanks man! I appreciate it.
What video are you talking about?

I'm pretty sure it's not me, because I don't have a sunburst strat, I have a cream colored strat and a light wood grained Ibanez artcore. That's probably a buddy of mine though, Sam Snyder. Overhand Sam. He and I met in college and we were both at basically equal levels of skill. He plays like that because he learned to play guitar after breaking his wrist skateboarding and it was too painful to try and play it the other way. He literally plays like that all the time, I don't think I've ever seen him play the regular way. He's got great soul.

hey guys, how often do you change your strings? its like ive had my strings on my fender for 2 years now and theyre still fine. is that normal?

The only time I change my strings is when I break them. Then I usually change the whole set. Although I mostly play bass and bass strings are pricey as hell compared to a set of guitar strings. They also don`t seem to go "dead" as noticeably as guitar strings do.

i bought mine used and changed them after a year--still played fine but they had beveling underneath at the frets--some people recommended changing at that point

mediums are shredding my fingers though

I dug it out and gave it a blast for the first time in ages the other day. It's actually a nice little amp. But because I used to use a heavy distortion, I'd opt for the other amp as it has a nice kick to it. But this one has a nice clean tone to it, and since I'm using more effects now it works out better for me right now. :)

Yeah, I'm the same really. I do polish my strings after I play though (with a lint-free cloth) just to extend their life. And cuz I hate it when they get dirt clogged onto the top strings. So roughly once or twice a year, depending on how dirty the fretboard gets as well cuz I like to treat it with a lil' lemon oil.

Although I mostly play bass and bass strings are pricey as hell compared to a set of guitar strings. They also don`t seem to go "dead" as noticeably as guitar strings do.

That's one reason why I switched from bass to six string. Those strings cost a pretty penny. :|

so whats your dream guitar?

i really want to get a vintage jazzmaster. im gonna go all out and spend like £2000 one day soon.

tbh I kinda have most of the guitars I really want. But if I had to chose another one, I quite like the look of this baby. :)
