There has been a massacre in my communal tank!! :(

My beautiful pearl gourami's aren't a duo any more :( I went to do my gravel vaccumm today only to find a pearl gourami shell broken in half at the bottom of my tank...eaten out totally all but his skeleton! :(

IM LOOKING AT YOU LOMBARDI'S AND CONVICTS!! :X

I don't know what he would of died. Water temps fine, pH levels are fine, he got plenty of food! A pig at times...but he was healthy! :(

I didn't do my gravel vaccumm. Instead i did a 30% water change because the fish had been dead for a few days by the looks of it. And the water may of gone bad. I took out more water than i put back in. I normally count them every day but i didn't yesterday...

Do you think the other pearl gourami will survive? They die quickly when they aren't kept in pairs...i have two gold gourami's aswell...do you think that will prolong the other pearls life?

...on the flip side...i set up our baby tank today for babies with some plants and a heater and internal filter. Will have to do water changes and bottom vaccumm though cause the gravel filter wasnt to crash hot. Need to buy an air stone aswell. Also set up a plastic tank for the plants for when i trim them to keep them in so we can reuse them. Probly get some some feeder fish to keep in there to keep the plants healthy. Need small gravel for that one.

yes he does, I call them his tentacles though. They are about 20 somthing centimetres long.

In that picture he was moving around as he thought he was about to be fed a mobile phone for dinner, but if you look closely you can see them tucked away underneath

What a remarkable looking Chelodina Longicollis (Eastern Longneck Turtle)

Dont feel bad. The turtle bit you because after a while they build an association between your hand and eating so they will just end up biting you if you put your hand anywhere near it

What the turtles name?

Why do you not know what sex the turtle is?
 
My turtles name is Squirt. :)

My sister originaly puchased the turtle and she just never asked the petshop what the turtles sexs was and I don't know how to tell.
 
take a pic of your turtle whilt its on its back

i.e. with the legs flying about, make sue the pic clearly shows the bottom half where the tail pokes out

post the pic up here and I will tell you the sex of your turtle

Its gravel vaccumm day today :D take 2. Ran out of time last week.

I could probably put it off another few days cause my readings for ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte all came back at 0 for all so thats awesome.

Our lil mums swimming around happily in the new solo tank. Just need her to hurry up and have the babies...still may be a few weeks off though :\
 
That turtle is male

His carapace (shell) looks rather healthy also

Make sure you get him out for a walk in the sun each weekend so that he gets enough natural vitamin D

Also, do you know a good way to clean turtle shells?. (has green stuff on it)
What I'm doing at the moment is leaving the turtle in the sun for an hour to let the turtle shell dry and then pick the green stuff off. But it's really time consuming especially when I have no finger nails.

My mum said something about iodine might help take it off.

What did you do to clean turtle shells?
 
Well our pregnant platty wasnt pregnant after all. She passed a lot of black gross fish waste though which i think was what was making her fat...maybe dead babies?

She's back in the communal tank now happily swimming around. No more black stuff being passed either.

I bought two baby tiger barbs today which are so adorable while small!! =D Also two new bristol nose plecs for our communal tank to eat the algea :p Not sure of the sex yet as they are still youngens...
