The Cigarette Thread

Impotence is not being able to get hard. Most young guys still want to get their end wet, unless I'm completely out of the loop....

hahaha, just be careful of the ones that cause foetal abnormalities and you'll be fine.
who said health education campaigns don't work?
i gotta say i agree with busty for once - i've only ever seen the ugly side of tobacco, never the appeal. i feel fortunate for this, for a whole lot of reasons (social, health, financial).

Airport smoking rooms a 'retrograde' step

Airport smoking rooms a 'retrograde' step

New designated smoking rooms at Perth Airport will set a dangerous precedent and are a step backwards for the campaign to denormalise smoking, health experts warn.
A purpose-built smokers' area is being built at the southern end of the domestic terminal and will open next month, with a second facility to follow at the international terminal.
A Perth Airport spokeswoman said the buildings were aimed at creating a pleasant, smoke-free environment for passengers and staff by reducing the impact of passive smoking.

The 44sqm building will have capacity for 60 people and will feature flight information displays and vending machines.
But Professor of Health Policy at Curtin University Mike Daube described the move as retrograde and bizarre.

"I don't think we have anything like that at Australian airports. It goes absolutely dead against the approaches we have been taking towards the decline of smoking," he said.
"I don't see why they can't just enforce a non-smoking approach in the areas where they have passengers, it's not rocket science."

Professor Daube, who is also president of the Australian Council of Smoking and Health, said the rooms also posed an occupational health and safety risk to airport staff.
"Surely it will have to be cleaned, and monitored, and that's going to create problems for staff who have to go into those areas."
"This sends out a dangerous signal, if you're going to do this in airports, where else next?"

Smoking rooms are common in many Asian airports, but a Perth Airport spokeswoman said the growing Asian market did not influence the decision.
She said in designing the smoking areas, the airport carefully considered the location and design, to ensure ease of cleaning and maintenance and to minimise passive smoking.
WA Heart Foundation chief executive Maurice Swanson said he had been lobbying the airport over the past five years to tighten up on smoking outside the main entrance.
But he said this move would only serve to undo the work health campaigners have achieved in denormalising smoking.

"The airport is one of the most regulated spaces in WA, surely they could just continue with their current policy of monitoring the forecourt and telling people to stop smoking," he said.
"We know people can refrain from smoking for five hours, and longer, during flights, so why can't they hang on for another half an hour."
"A lot of work has been done restricting smoking areas over the years, and this just chips away at that."

That's great news for those people looking to save a few bucks! I stopped over in Hong Kong on my way to England and after stepping into the smoking room, I didn't even need a cigarette (even though I smoked two). I think the nicotine in the thick bellows of smoke that I ploughed through after first stepping into the room penetrated every pore on my body and stayed in my system until I had a shower the next day.

"This sends out a dangerous signal, if you're going to do this in airports, where else next?"

How about sporting events and music concerts, it sucks going outside of the MCG (or impossible at Telstra Dome) when I'm watching the footy to have a quick smoke, if I could just step into the smoking room and take a few breaths to get my nicotine fix it would save plenty of cash from half-smoked, rushed darts.

"denormalising". what a stupid, clumsy word.
i've seen smoking rooms in american airports, and i really think that they act to stigmatise smoking more than popping outside for a quick one does.
it's like "here's the naughty people in their little smoky box".

this idea that smoking isn't a "normal" part of life is just living in a fantasy world. and i'm all for anti-tobacco campaigns.
i'd love to pop into one for a reefer - it looks sort of normal, and only the people in your immediate vicinity (ie smokers who can't smell shit anyway) will pick up on the odour. they should have smoking boxes everywhere.

can i get a couple opinions on this?

What is the closest pack of smokes, in terms of taste, to champion gold

so the least (chemical / dry mouth/ harsh)

malboro/dunhilll/peter stuyvesant , pretty much all brands ive tried so far have been worlds apart from a good pouch rolled cig

I don't know what to suggest. I've only had Champion Ruby, but I haven't had any tailors that taste similar. On another note, I really enjoy Camel unfiltered, maybe you'd like them? I don't know. Rollies are cheaper than tailors, why would you want to change?

no shops close to me sell the right brand, every time i buy a pouch its committing to smoking another 100 cigs, its really dry and hot so its hard to stop pouches from drying out

GL man, I converted to escorts after getting blazed and having them a lot, they end up tasting like chocolate.

Is there people here who want smoke if they don't have a decent brand? I can't smoke certain cigarettes and will go for days without if I buy those types.

Hello all,

I Admit, i haven't gone through this post fully, so this question may have
been asked before, but i'm too lazy to check, forgive me if it has, SWIM
has a couple of beautiful Nicotiana Tabacum plants growing in his
garden, and is also an organic chemistry student. He has heard that this
plant that has given the world cigarettes, also contains traces of up to
150 different alkaloids. He heard that shamans in south america consume
the leaves raw, to almost 'poison' themselves, and one leave is enough
to cause a raw hallucination. Is this true? Should swim try it? Bit off-topic.

We don't use that SWIM shit here, so please refrain from doing so in future.
I don't think you're going to die from ingesting one leaf irrespective of how, and whether it was cured or not.
Also I don't think there are any hallucinations from tobacco, but you can try if you want.

i don't know about that...i've heard anecdotally that oral preparations of tobacco are extremely lethal.

i would do some serious research before undertaking such an experiment, DoctorChemX.

and by that, i mean beyond the opinion of drug forum members. it is impossible for someone without the right information at hand to make an informed decision on whether or not that would be a safe thing to mess around with. my instincts say "don't do it".

You'd need far more than a small leaf to kill an adult human. I know somebody that soaked half a pack of cigarettes in water for 24 hours and somehow managed to drink it and they're fine. They just got extreme headspins and nausea. Point is, ingesting tobacco won't make you trip. If you want to trip like native americans did, go have peyote or datura the like.

As you can see on wiki, people have taken it orally as a medicine, not a poison, although nicotine itself is poisonous.

Yeah best be careful swim dude...

All parts of the plant contain nicotine, which can be extracted and used as an insecticide. The dried leaves can also be used; they remain effective for 6 months after drying. The juice of the leaves can be rubbed on the body as an insect repellent. The leaves can be dried and chewed as an intoxicant. The dried leaves are also used as snuff or are smoked. This is the main species that is used to make cigarettes, cigars, and other smokable tobacco preparations. A drying oil is obtained from the seed.

As I understood it, Native North American Indians used to smoke large amounts of tobacco through the 'peace pipe' (something most people I have discussed the matter with, admittedly not many, always assumed was cannabis) in order to induce hallucinations and delerium. Its a while since I looked this shit up so I may be a little bit off.

Personally I find it hard to imagine a great deal of value in virtually poisoning oneself with nicotine just to catch a vision or two, but to each their own. I would think in terms of safety the Native Americans had the right idea and you would be a lot less likely to OD and die from smoking than orally prepared tobacco, obviously depending how much you like tobacco smoke it could be a considerably less enjoyable method of administration though.

Yeah, a friend used to tell me that when we were like 7-8 years old and played cowboys and indians. I should probably use less personal jokes on a board full of strangers.
