The Bucket Head of the Year Awards - 2009

Bad trips happen but I don't think acid/other psychedelics inherently produce them - its completely up to the person. If you go into the trip willing to accept the truths it shows you while still remembering it's just a drug and you'll be fine in 8 hours, and you don't fight it but ride it, you won't have a bad trip. It's when someone becomes uncomfortable and fights it/panics/forgets they'll be fine once the drug wears off that the problems start, because this can quickly lead to panic attacks, anxiety, and before you know it you're ripping your mind apart while curled up in a ball thinking youre dying because your heart is going so fast (which is a direct consequence of letting yourself get so worked up in the first place).

Propagandha/misconceptions like that vid and some of the posts in this thread do nothing to prevent bad trips and can actually precipitate them - people will be anxious going into the trip and in the period of ego death (2nd bardo according to Tim Leary's "The Psychedelic Experience - Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead"), when you're shown a whole different view on life and most likely shown the parts of you that are negative, it's quite easy to think "omg I'm having a bad trip, personal hell ahhhhh" which will undoubtedly make the trip worse.

Basically if you know what youre getting into and approach it with a completely open mind, theres no such thing as a "bad trip", just trips that are difficult for your ego as it is blown apart. Which for me is a good trip because you learn the most from them.

I cant agree with this.

A truly bad trip, is when your mind has completely flipped. You think your truely going insane. Your in extreme fear and panic and because of that you want/think your going to die at any moment.

Once your mind has 'flipped' there's no way out of it.

Not sure if you have experienced this, but drop 2 panthers and go to an 18th party with 50+ people there and you'll understand the definition of a 'bad trip'

"The truths it shows you"

That statement, makes you an idiot.

It's a hallucinogen - there is no truth, any retarded idea you come up with during it is part of that hallucination and nothing more. If you choose to take it as gospel, you're a fool. Because in every other perceiveable realm of existence - It just aint like that.

You guys misunderstood me. I wasnt DENYING the fact that bad trips can occur. I was simply pointing out the fact that the way thery word it makes it sounds like you are GUARENTTEEEEDDD a bad trip every time haha!

If that was the case people wouldnt take acid..shiiit!

But yeh bed trips happen for sure. I mean i flipped out at new years. But wouldnt call it bad. Just thought that i owned a car out front of my house. Had to be naked outside and everything would make sense somehow...a bunch of other stuff. I thought i had big arse bottles of GHB that was actually massage oil. Fucking retarted shit haha.. i forgot my godlen rule! "Its just the drug..." and all of a sudden things that were impossible were like ..not impossible lol. ANd wre in fact real! It was hard to distinguish reality from the mayhem haha..

At one point there was a corpse in my bath tub in the fetal position just screaming. I was like..ooooook ..i gotta get out of the crib for a little while. It was new years and unfortunatly had a house party go array and everyone ended up bailing. Leaving me by myself to deal with 3 smileys i had ingested. HMmmmm..

I understand, but if you do it right and realise what would happen you're not likely to flip out in the first place. And even then, why cant you stop the bad trip - your mind got you into it, it can get you out of it. I've dosed 2 tabs before, in a good setting, and have been fine - I've done mushies many times both in public places (walking down a main street in the city with another tripper at 1am walking past drunk people, cops, people dining outside at fancy restaurants, while I was tripping so hard it felt like my teeth were liquified, like I was continually swallowing my tongue, and literally forgotten how to talk, and everyone was looking at me judgementally while they morphed into aliens with giant heads, and had no idea where I was and was completely in the hands of the other tripper) and indoors and have been fine - I can see how a trip could go bad but it's not like it's guaranteed at any point/unescapeable. You're right though, acid is not a standard party drug.

At this stage I'm confident I could hold my shit on 2 tabs at an 18th, but I wouldnt reccommend it to someone who's not at least semi-experienced.

It's a hallucinogen - there is no truth, any retarded idea you come up with during it is part of that hallucination and nothing more. If you choose to take it as gospel, you're a fool. Because in every other perceiveable realm of existence - It just aint like that.

Psychedelics have shown me many truths about myself, other people, and life that I otherwise would not have been exposed to. "There is no truth" - lol, just lol. Obviously I'm not referring to the tripped out retarded ideas you come up with. I'm an idiot and a fool? I'm sorry, I must of hurt your ego. "Every other perceiveable realm of existence" - theres only one perceivable (for most people, the people who can experience more (the ones who tell other people anyway) are labelled as loonies by society and locked up), so it looks like you're just talking shit. Throwing in a couple of big words out of context doesnt make you right or appear more intelligent.

It's not that hard to figure out what ideas are right and wrong the day after the trip, which is why you just ride it during it. Just because you're not at the stage where you're able to benefit greatly from psychedelics doesnt mean no one else can. I suggest you read http://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/psychedelic_experience/psychedelic_experience.shtml
