I am definitely not complaining about this, but it's the first time in my life that my nails are super strong!

the vitamins/supplements could easily have everything to do with it -

im not a, mum;-)

but still, has your hair seemed any different??
being pregnant it seems you body(+1haha) will be working double O/T, and so using more ''cells'' and using them a lot quicker along the way, and so as they do when they die build your hair and toe/finger nails.

i guess asking how your toe-nails are doing makes some sense at this moment also, so i must also ask-? ... how are your toe-nails doing?
;-)

<3

hehe, my toenails are really really strong as well. I have a tendency to kick my toes, and i'm regularly surprised that i haven't taken a toenail clear off. My hair is growing really quickly - i only had my fringe trimmed a few weeks ago and it needs another trim this week. i'd say it's grown probably 1.5cm in 3 weeks? I don't know if that's fast, but it's fast for me. :) I'm not pregnant either (i'm pre-heating the oven ;))- so it will be interesting to see how hair/skin/nails are when I do have a baby.

My toenails grow so fast they're kinda pissing me off cuz I'm having a helluva time reaching my feet to cut them.

36 weeks. Where did the time go?! Didn't I just pee on the stick yesterday?

I'm gaining weight a bit too fast (up to 26 lbs baby weight) these last few weeks, since I'm no longer plagued with constant GI issues. Can't eat much at one time with baby taking up so much space, but I tend to graze constantly, and often on calorie dense foods. Dairy, especially. My husband keeps threatening to just buy me a cow!

Baby gifts keep arriving, and I don't think I'll need to buy much to fill out his layette. Probably won't have to get much except diapers for the first year! I do anyway, though. Who can resist those adorable little outfits?

Moms who have both girls and boys -- did the boys make you hungrier?

36 weeks, that's so exciting Voxy, you're almost there! I look forward to hearing how your little one comes into the world if you are willing to share :) I am a few weeks behind you, but suddenly there are just a few more weeks left at work and I can't wait to be home full time, getting everything ready!

Lol Samadhi at 'pre-heating', you are going to make such a fantastic mum :)

vox you are doing so brilliantly, you are an inspiration to me for when I'm pregnant!! Thanks for the update hun :) <3
(I lol'd at your husband's threats to just buy you a whole cow! Hilarious =D)

37 weeks, 4 days -- As I was pouring coffee for my husband yesterday morning, my little boy went "clunk", right into my pelvis -- he's in the chute! Breathing just got a LOT easier! My bladder has the capacity of a thimble, though, so it all evens out. And now, when he squirms, he pushes on the nerves that run down my legs, and it feels kinda like the sensation you get when you smack your funny-bone. I've gained 29lbs, and my gait is definitely resembling a waddle. This is the home stretch!

My house is filling up with baby gifts faster than I can make space for them all -- we'll be lucky if he can wear every outfit once before it's outgrown! I probably spend an hour every day talking my mom out of stuff I don't need -- a stroller (no pavement), a swing (I'm a "constant physical contact" mommy), a crib (we co-sleep)....I told her she could buy us a California-king size BeautyRest, but I guess she didn't hear.......

We're all SO excited! Every other sententence out of my little girl's mouth starts with "When my little brother gets born..." SOOO adorable! She's gonna be an awesome big sister! I'm hoping my son is as smart and healthy and beautiful, with as sweet a disposition as his sis -- that's not too much to ask, right?

I'm (slowly) packing today to move to Ketchikan for a couple of weeks to await my little man's big debut. Can't wait to see him!

Oh Vox that's so exciting! Not long now, although I hope there's a bathroom on that plane for you ;) Can't wait to hear about the arrival of your perfect little boy in a couple of weeks xo

Edit: just re-reading your post, I didn't realise it was so apparent when the baby 'engages' like that. I'm a couple months behind you so I'm gleaning tips from all your posts :)

Vox-you saying that you are a "constant contact" kind of parent made me want to plug this carrier http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/ I used probably 8 different kinds of carriers between my 2 kids and this one is by far the best!!! Its soo easy to use and SUPER SUPER comfortable! My daughter is now 30+ lbs and I can carry her all day in our ergo without ever being in pain, and thats with a neck/shoulder injury! Most importantly the babies love it!

I've been looking at the ergo carriers for awhile, they seem to be quite good.

My work friend told me to get a baby bjorn one, but the reviews i've read seem to suggest that they may hurt your back, which is what i'd like to avoid.

Thanks LoveAlways for the ergo plug, I've been tossing it up for a while but wasn't sure it would be worth the money if the baby got 'too heavy' quickly. You saying it's still comfortable even at 30lb has motivated me to order one, and as a bonus they have started shipping direct to Australia, which they didn't do 6 months ago when I first looked. Heaps cheaper than buying through a local reseller!

Love the Ergo! Will be ordering one within a couple of months. I have a sling that's perfect for a newborn, but once he starts gaining weight, it's Ergo FTW!

39wks, 4days -- soooo close! Mucus plug is shed, colostrum is ready and waiting, I've started having early labor crampy contractions interspersed with the Braxton-Hicks variety, and my lil girl has started calling me Planet Mommy. Any day now!

Excited, a little nervous, definitely ready to go home! Will try to update this thread as events unfold...

40 weeks -- I think this is it! Contractions are getting more or less regular, and are starting to feel "real". Nothing terribly painful yet though. More "discomfort" than "pain", really. Stay tuned...

Let's hope everything goes smoothly and well for you Vox. :)

Only 28 weeks so far for me, but the time is going by way too quickly. Can't wait to move back closer to family and friends though which will be happening in about 3 weeks. :)

Moving in your 3rd trimester oughtta be fun! Glad you'll get to be back among the people you know, though. Makes it all so much more festive!

I've been away from home for 18 days now, and I'm ready to go back! Ketchikan is predominately a tourist town anymore, and they get 4 to 6 of those hee-uge cruise ships every day in the summer, so all the streets and buses are crowded all day. I live in a tiny community of less than 200 people, and they have that many people milling around within a city block....craziness!! Living in a hotel is making me nutty, too. This boy needs to come out and see his mamma, so we can go HOME!!

40 weeks, 1 day -- after 14 hours of relatively regular contractions that increased in intensity, everything just slowed down to a crawl. My contractions are milder, and farther apart. Bummer in a way, but in another way, I'd much rather have a slow labor that's easy, than labor that comes on quickly and excruciatingly. I'm using acupressure , and it does seem to be encouraging things along. More later...

So my husband and I have decided that we're moving back to Brisbane! After talking about the importance of family/loved-one support, and realising that house prices are 30-45% cheaper than in Melbourne, we're making the move :D We just came home from a week of house hunting and spending time with everyone and it was SO reassuring to realise just how much support we have up there - a number of our friends/family members have babies/young children.

As an aside, about 3 months ago, we bought some fertility/ovulation test kits from the chemist - they were quite expensive (about $20 for 8 tests). We've recently found them for sale on ebay - but you get 40 kits for the same price! A friend in Brisbane suggested them to us, and so we've snapped them up. We're taking it easy at the moment, but they will be handy for when we want to know when the best time to conceive is. I have a fair idea of when i'm ovulating (cramps and sore breasts), but it will be good to have it pinpointed a little more.

:)
