i guess we've been lucky then. ff got seldom sick in the first tri or since, and she's only now, just several weeks from delivery, getting some annoying heartburn. the boy (probably going to be named "Felix") is currently in a disco or kungfu phase, moving a lot. soon there won't be enough space for it.

Wow L2R, it's so close!!
Recommend TUMS to her for the heartburn, if she's not already taking them. Safe for pregnancy and works like a charm :)

doc gave her something called Pariet (active ing is rabeprazole sodium).

yeah he'll be here soon!! =D

How exciting, L2R! And how lucky she is to have had a mostly nausea-free pregnancy! I have done a lot of reading and found out that babies move more during the 2nd trimester than any other period. Apparently a lot of people refer to it as the "breakdancing" phase :P

I have a close friend who is due in June and her baby recently started moving around to the point where she swears like it looks as if an alien is trying to bust out... Lovely? Haha. That must feel so bizarre but at the same time it must be really exciting knowing that your baby is most definitely alive and well.

Anyway, like you said earlier, apparently Baby stops moving around as much as the due date nears and they run out of room for aforementioned breakdancing exercises.

Hope her heartburn feels better!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot this:

bump.jpg

Not to be my own buzkill but it's probably just water retention. STILL THOUGH... It is indeed a sign of pregnancy so I'm gonna stick with calling it my bump. Besides, it only gets bigger from here on out!

Anyway, we think I'm at about eight and a half weeks according to my last period and the fact that my first ultrasound (at five or six weeks) didn't detect a heartbeat as it was obviously early on. John and I have our appointment with DEERS tomorrow so I can get my Tricare insurance going again which is AWESOME. Once that is out of the way, the first thing I'm going to do is schedule an appointment with my gyno for next week. Since I will be about nine weeks by then we should definitely be able to see the baby and hear its heartbeat and of course I'll report back to BL with photos and such despite the fact that nine week old babies pretty much just look like blobs :P

Lacey, I'm going to run over to TPH after I post this so I can see photos! The ones I've seen already were just freaking adorable. What a handsome baby!

Speaking of bumps, when did you guys start showing?

This has been mentioned in the wedding thread but I can't remember if it has been here (I have horrible memory...): Although John and I are technically married, we didn't have a ceremony and decided instead to have it on March 26th. The only thing I've been worried about is getting big by then! I should be about 12 weeks along (give or take a week) and according to everything I've read, that's about the time most women start showing. However, I've been looking through tons of photos on baby-gaga.com and either these women are sticking their bellies out in excitement or they're actually showing by six and seven weeks 8o And when I say "showing" I mean more than a little bump... You can honest-to-god tell they're pregnant. This naturally freaked me out but at this point I don't think I'll be big by then, especially with all this nausea... Not only this but my wedding dress has a corset-type back so it can be adjusted should I gain a few by then :P

Side note: thank you, BL, for giving me a place to express my every thought regarding my pregnancy. These responses have been lengthy walls of mostly boring text but man, does it feel good to get some of this off my chest!

I was desperate to show, my first pregnancy did not show till I was almost 20 weeks and I was sticking it out. my second was just the same although down to 18 weeks, my third and fourth I noticed my bump actually showing around the 12 th week of pregnancy.

Usernamehere my god girl what a cracking figure, I would love to had that pre pregnancy never mind afterwards. I have stretch marks on my stretch marks boobs and tummy area are always well hidden now. a touch of jealousy is coming forward in me :(

I stuck to ginger in hot water for heart burn, and did I get it bad about 7 months, that and remegel.

just reading a few of the other posts and noting about cloth nappies, I kept a bucket of bleach beside the washing machine and once used put the nappy in there to soak and done a wash at night with all nappies. I used a liner so it was easy for poo to be flushed away. As for clothes swapping something I have always done with the kids, they grow so quickly and often clothes have never been out the pack never mind labels cut off when you realise they are too big for them.
The party idea sounds brilliant and think I will see about starting that locally here. cheers for the idea :D

Yeah, I definitely can't wait to really start showing but at the same time I want my body to hold off just a few more weeks.

Thanks for the compliment, tigger. It's kind of weird... I actually lost weight in the beginning but mostly because I was coming off of my holiday pig-out fest so naturally I dropped about five lbs when I stopped eating so much junk. On top of that I started throwing up around the end of the sixth week (nearly three weeks ago =/) and that also caused me to lose weight at first. I have gained two lbs back though so I think I'm headed in the right direction... I might need to get some kind of stomach medicine from my doctor though because I don't wanna not weigh enough, you know? I don't want my baby to have a low birth weight!

As far as stretch marks go, THANK GOD I don't really have any! I've never been prone to them and neither have my sister or my mother. I have a few *barely* noticeable white marks on my thighs from when I got off drugs and gained a ton of weight within a short period of time (as well as having started birth control during the same period). Hopefully it'll stay this way... I've read that if you've never dealt with stretch marks before your chances of making it through your pregnancy without any are much greater. However, nothing is 100% so I can only hope and use tons of cocoa butter in the mean time :P If it happens, it happens... Such is life, yeah?

One more shitty "symptom" as of late: I have bacne! I had always heard that pregnancy made a lot of women's skin better but nooo, mine decided to get awful all of a sudden! My face has been fine but my back looks like a pubescent teenager's face. There's got to be about 50 zits total covering my shoulders, back, and the base of my neck. SO EMBARRASSING... Thankfully my hair is long enough to cover it up and I just bought tons of body washes and other products for body acne. It's just so weird though because I've never, ever had this problem before in my entire life.

Meh. So what's that I hear about women getting better skin, looking rosy, and feeling amazing? Sounds like a dream...

Ours picked up even more in the third tri, since he's begun practising with his lungs.

Alien is SO TRUE! That was my first impression when i felt him. There's a distinct SOLID mass inside moving on its own. It's freaky freaky!

Hope her heartburn feels better!
Thanks mate :)

I just checked, since i took a photo of her shortly after noticing her bump, and it is dated october, so that makes it around the 10-12 week mark. ff is naturally very thin, so she probably showed quicker than average.

Funny, i started this thread when we were at 5 weeks and we had no idea at that stage and was only looking for preconception advice.

usernamehere, I never had any stretch marks prior to pregnancy, used cocoa butter all throughout but I got them. but then my figure was not like yours lol.
As for you losing weight in the begining it is very common first time round I lost 7 lb in just over a week with being sick before hormones starting calming down.

Folk always say you look rosey and glowing cos they sure as hell do not want a hormonal pregnant women going raj on them lol.
I came out with lumps and small rashes. I kept a note as I planned on never again, the constipation from about 6 months on was pure hell. funny though although I remember it there is no pain memories, think the brain blocks it so you will have more.

It will start showing soon enough, the better your stomach muscles are the longer it normally takes to show. :D

meant to say as well with baby movements, if you find their feet stuck up under rib cages and you are in pain use a torch to shine through your skin and baby does actually follow it also get a good set of headphones and place over bump when they are awake they do move and hit at the speakers :D

Ummm, that is one of the most amazing pregnancy-related things I've ever heard!! I will always remember that for my pregnancies. I'm am obsessed with music and LOVE the idea of my babies hearing music from within my belly :)
Thanks tiggerific <3

N3o, I have done that with all of mine, I had afternoons lying on the bed when the others where sleeping and would plug them in, I found after they were born they normally went to sleep with background noise, where as some of my friends were scared to whisper or put the kettle on.
I loved the torch one, decided to give it a try after spending all day being very uncomfortable with feet under the ribs, it worked so next pregnancies never went anywhere with out a torch and spare batteries lol.

the best part is when the baby is born and you see him/her moving around and you're like "YEAH thats exactly what that felt like!"

At the moment I'm about 14 weeks (almost 15) and I'm at the stage where I've got a tummy but it just looks like a fat blob atm. It's definitely expanded though and I'm not fitting into most of my skirts, pants or even some of my dresses. On the one hand I'd like to look more pregnant, instead of just fat. On the other hand I'm dreading the stretch marks that will follow. I've been using some bio oil and trying to keep my fluids up but really it's debatable whether it really has a difference (some swear by it, others say they did it and still got stretchmarks). Fingers crossed that I can get my pre-pregnancy body back and fit into my dresses again. :D

I've heard of the speakers, but not the torch. Will be giving it a go later on down the track. :)

My friend requested that we buy used baby clothes from a thrift/consignment store. At first I thought that was strange because I pictured stained, heavily worn clothes. I found exactly the opposite and realized why: kids grow so quickly, there are often clothes that never get worn! I went to a thrift store in a fancy neighborhood and got really cheap, nice clothes that often had designer labels. I think I got a big pile of really cute clothes for $20!
As cute as baby clothes are (I've had to force myself out of baby shops) I find it quite hard to justify buying lots of brand new stuff, when some of them will only be worn a couple of times before the baby is too big for them. My SIL and a couple of friends have kindly offered me a loan of some of their clothes and furniture. I'll also be getting most of the baby furniture 2nd hand as well.

Cloth v's disposable I'm still yet to make a decision. Might do cloth at home and disposables when going out / night time but it will be hard convincing my partner to use them.

Me too! I finally gave in on the weekend and bought some maternity tops but I feel like a bit of a fraud - like a fat chick that's just pretending to be pregnant :) My nausea has finally settled down =D but I can't feel the baby moving yet, so I'm in this in between stage where I've definitely gained weight but don't really feel "pregnant".

It feels good to be wearing the new clothes though, and the shape of them means I *do* look more pregnant than when I was just wearing clothes 1 size bigger, which just didn't fit right.

My other half is being very nice though, he says my tummy definitely looks like a baby bump and has started being quite affectionate to it, kissing and stroking it lol :)
