NEWS: 20.4.09 - Man alleged of Comancheros link after machete, cannabis find

TWO men with alleged links to the Comanchero bikies have been charged after a search of a car revealed a machete, balaclavas, duct tape and cannabis.

Police stopped a vehicle in Roger St, Roselands, in southwest Sydney, last night at about 8pm.

"A green bag containing a 47.5cm machete was allegedly located in the vehicle, plus two balaclavas, binoculars, duct tape, and other items, including a small amount of cannabis," police said.

The Daily Telegraph reports that a 31-year-old man was arrested, while a second man, 22, arrived at the scene on foot.

"Police will allege the 22-year-old man is a member of the Comancheros Outlaw Motor Cycle Gang, while the 31-year-old is an associate of the same gang," police said.

The older man was charged with being armed with intent and possessing a prohibited drug and was refused bail.

He is due to face Burwood Local Court today.

The 22-year-old man was charged with bail and traffic offences, and has also been refused bail to face Bankstown Local Court today.

The whole world is in an MDMA drought. Sulphate and Ice is around everywhere, atleast in Sydney. But whats that got to do with bikies? Most ice gets imported from Asia or made in large quantities who are not related to bikie gangs.

People are too greedy. When profits start getting split too many ways people get annoyed. I have read in America different chapters of the same gang have turned on eachother to try and get more market domination. I guess there is a saturation point, after which something has to happen.

NEWS: 21.4.09 - Hells Angels told to shoot 'enemies' on sight

SHAMED Hells Angels leaders have ordered their troops to 'shoot on sight' in a deadly bid to repair the gang's shattered image.

A string of recent attacks, including the firebombing of their national headquarters in Adelaide at the weekend, has angered the gang's American leaders.

They have ordered their Australian chapters to take steps to restore its hardcore reputation - but equally to begin repairing the Hells Angels "brand" - by shooting at any Comanchero on sight.

The Angels have a long-held policy of "instant retaliation" and for more than 50 years worked to maintain its reputation as one of the most powerful biker gangs in the world.

The Angels' US headquarters feels the Australian chapters have badly let that reputation down after escalations in the war with Comancheros.

Particularly galling is the attacks have gone unanswered.

To underline its embarrassment at the lack of reprisals, the Americans have banned Australian chapters from their annual world run, expected to take place next month.

It has left Australia's Hells Angels no choice but to honour America's directive and ignore recent attempts at peace talks between rival Australian gangs.

While peace talks have happened, the Hells Angels headquarters is more interested in protecting its reputation.

It leaves the biker world on edge, with little doubt the war will escalate once again.

Two Comancheros were arrested in Sydney's Roselands on Monday carrying, among other items, balaclavas, duct tape and a 48cm machete.

Roselands is considered a Hells Angels stronghold.

"You carry a .45 for protection, you carry those things because you're out to kidnap somebody," a gang insider said. "And it's not like they were just driving around the corner from home.

"If they were in Roselands they mean business."

A 31-year-old man was charged with being armed with intent and for possessing a prohibited drug.

A 22-year-old man was charged with breaching his bail conditions and driving while disqualified, and was refused bail in court.

The Hells Angels' image has taken a battering since the bashing death of Anthony Zervos at Sydney airport a month ago.

While Zervos was not a patched member, he died on the Angels' battlefield while brawling with rival Comanchero gang members.

His brother Peter, the Hells Angels sergeant-at-arms, was shot down in the driveway of his apartment complex little more than a week later and barely survived.

This followed the Hells Angels' Petersham clubhouse being bombed in February, believed to be a Comanchero attack.

Yet the Hells Angels have so far not struck a blow in revenge of the attacks.

Indeed, Sydney's streets have even quietened in recent weeks as Strike Force Raptor cracks down on outlaw biker gangs.

NEWS: 22.4.09 - Drugs bust linked to four bikie gangs

QUEENSLAND and federal police today cracked a large methamphetamine trafficking network they allege has links to four outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Police executed search warrants on addresses in Toowoomba and on the Gold and Sunshine coasts in southeast Queensland.

Thirty-six people have been charged with 82 offences relating to the alleged possession of drugs, money, firearms and clandestine laboratory equipment.

It will be alleged the joint agency operation has dismantled a large methamphetamine trafficking network operating throughout southeast Queensland, police said.

North Coast Region Operations Co-ordinator, Acting Chief Superintendent Ben Hanbidge, said working with other agencies had proven very effective for Queensland police.

"Amphetamines are quite simply dangerous and potentially lethal drugs,'' he said.

"We are constantly working to prevent these and other illicit drugs from reaching the community and causing serious harm.''

Australian Federal Police Commander Brian McDonald said the operation was a significant achievement.

"This is an exceptional outcome for law enforcement as it continues to work together to dismantle drug syndicates and prevent drugs from reaching the streets of Australia,'' Commander McDonald said.

NEWS: 23.4.09 - 13 bikies charged in WA raids

THIRTEEN people have been charged after WA police raids turned up drugs and firearms.

Western Australian Police said officers executed a number of search warrants today in the metropolitan area and southwest region of the state as part of ongoing investigations into the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang.

"Thirteen people were charged with a total of 32 offences, including the indecent recording of a child under 16 years of age, possession of amphetamine with intent to sell or supply, unlawful possession of a stolen motorcycle, and drugs, firearms and weapon offences," police said.

"An amount of drugs, firearms, controlled weapons, and property (including a motorcycle and go-cart) were seized during the warrants."

Investigations are continuing into the activities of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang, the statement said.

Alleged criminal group associate charged with drug & firearm offences – Strike Force Raptor

Police attached to Strike Force Raptor have charged a man who will face court today over alleged drug and firearm related offences.

Strike Force Raptor officers will allege the man is an associate of the Notorious Criminal Group.

Just after 2am today, Strike Force Raptor officers executed a search warrant at a home on Vista Street at Mosman.

During the search police located and seized a black Bentley sedan, with a loaded automatic pistol and ammunition inside the car at the time.

A further search of the premises revealed another loaded silver semi-automatic pistol, 178 MDMA tablets, numerous capsules believed to contain amphetamine, a small amount of cannabis, about $8350 cash, a quantity of steroids, along with drug-related paraphernalia.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to North Sydney Police Station for questioning. He was subsequently charged with 17 offences including:
· Two counts of possess unregistered pistol
· Two counts of possess unauthorised pistol
· Two counts of possess firearm obliterated ID
· Two counts of not keep firearm safe
· Two counts of possess ammunition
· Two counts of supply prohibited drug
· Three counts of possess prescribed restricted substance
· Posses prohibited drug
· Deal with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime

He’s been refused bail, to appear at Manly Local Court today.

Strike Force Raptor, which is attached to the State Crime Command Gangs Squad, was established to proactively target the illegal activities of OMCG members and their associates.

COMANCHERO boss Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi has been refused bail with a court deciding the case against him was a strong one.

Among the factors weighed against him was revelations that he allegedly said to Peter Zervas - brother of the man killed in the airport brawl - "You've got it coming, I will get you tomorrow."

However, Magistrate Armati did concede Hawi was not a flight risk and was likely to attend court.

Hawi has been accused of striking a rival bikie gang member with a metal bollard in a violent and ultimately fatal brawl at Sydney airport.

Police will also allege Hawi made a verbal threat to Peter Zervas - Anthony's brother - as he fled the scene at the airport on March 22.

This morning Magistrate Armati also found that Hawi needed to be kept in custody for the protection of the community, given the "disregard" the brawl had for public safety.

The court also heard Hawi had lost 11kg and has not even seen another inmate since he was arrested and jailed over the fatal airport brawl.

Lawyers for Hawi today continued their application for him to be released from custody on bail, arguing the conditions he was being kept in were far too severe for him to remain there.

Barrister John Korn told Central Local Court one year in protective custody was the equivalent to almost twice that long in ordinary custody.

His cell was 4m by 2m, had mould growing in it,and never saw sunlight, he said.

"Despite the fact that he (Hawi) doesn't regard himself as requiring protection they have decided that he will be there ... for at least the next three months," Mr Korn said.

He submitted the Crown case was not a strong one, and provisions akin to house arrest could be imposed to ensure his attendance at court until the matter was finalised.

NEWS: 5.5.09 - Illegal gang recruiters facing jail time

Anyone caught recruiting members to a bikie gang after it has been declared a criminal organisation faces up to five years jail under new laws in NSW.

NSW Premier Nathan Rees has announced the next round of legislation aimed at outlawing outlaw motorcycle gangs, which will go before state parliament on Tuesday.

It will include the new offence of recruiting a person to be a member of a declared organisation.

"Police tell us that a number of youth gangs are being used as feeder gangs to outlaw motorcycle gangs," Mr Rees told reporters.

"We also know that some of the most violent inter-club feuds occur when members are induced to transfer to other gangs."

NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Paul Carey said young street gangs, including the Muslim Brotherhood Movement and the Parra Boys, were recruiting members to bikies gangs.

He said they used a "range of attractive ways" to recruit members which could include drugs and the "romantic misdemeanour" of being part of a bikie gang.

The crackdown on bikie gangs follows a brawl at Sydney airport in March between the Hells Angels and Comanchero gangs which resulted in one man's death.

Legislation was introduced last month which allows police to apply to the Supreme Court to have bikie gangs become declared organisations.

However, no such application is yet to be made by police.

Mr Rees on Tuesday would not be drawn on when he expected NSW Police to make an application.

"It's an operational matter. I don't comment on operational matters," he said.

The second round of legislation will also allow police to make a public notice when placing a control order on an individual of a declared gang.

This will be used when other means of serving the order have been unsuccessful.

"This legislation will make it very difficult for them to run and hide," Mr Rees said.

The state government's announcement came as NSW Police and the Australian Crime Commission on Tuesday raided 31 premises with links to the Hells Angels.

Two men were arrested.

Strike Force Raptor, established after the airport brawl, prior to Tuesday had made 69 arrests, laid 147 charges and seized more than 30 weapons, large quantities of drugs and luxury vehicles including a Bentley.

The NSW opposition says the recent arrest of bikie gang members is due to increased police resources and not the NSW government's tough new laws.

"The raids effected today, those raids we've seen over the last six weeks, are under laws that existed prior to the problem at Sydney airport," Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell told reporters.

"The only reason they're happening is because the state government finally gave police the resources to get on with the job."

Mr O'Farrell said that until the airport brawl, NSW had a police gang squad of 50, the same size as that of South Australia, a state with a much smaller population.

"Boosting the police gang squad to 125, a clear focus on OMCGs, is producing the results that should have been produced over the last four to five years," he said.

"Then we wouldn't have had this current problem."

Mr O'Farrell, who backed the government's new legislation, said he was yet to be briefed by the government on additional laws before state parliament on Tuesday, that relate to outlaw bikie recruitment.
