☛ Official ☚ The Big & Dandy Scale / Balance Thread - Part 2.000±

Anyone have an American Weigh DIA-10 jewelry scale? I'm curious as to how reliable these are. Supposedly accurate to 1mg for under $100...

What's the best weight to carry? Need it to measure hash, preferably a small one, price does not matter.

A cheap hand-held mechanical postal scale with an alligator clip on it. You clip the bag to it and hold the scale up in the air, see what it weighs, then add hash until you get the proper weight.

So you wouldn't know of any common powders that it would evenly mix with?

Without expensive industrial equipment and analysis, you can't evenly mix 2 powders. Trying to do so outside of a laboratory will result in possible dangerous hot spots of poorly and unmixed powder. The different powders will settle differently and separate over time, as well.

The which mg (±0.001g) scale thread

I'm looking to buy a decent, accurate and reliable mg scale with as little deviation as possible (i.e ±0.001g).

I'm willing to spend up $200 on such a scale and would be good if it could weigh >=20g (to reduce the error when weighing smaller amounts).

So far the primary candidate is this American weigh minipro-50.

Any reviews, suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated :)

if you don't want to buy one online, gun shops carry good ones that aren't all that expensive

Nice, that thread is very helpful, so far the options are a MyWeigh Gempro 250 or an Acculab VIC-123.

Good stuff, now I just need to get a job hah.

Mine cost me 80. Obviously not all that highend, but I got it at a local headshop and it's accurate enough. It was some sort of a diamond scale... It DOES work well enough, but I'm using it to dose myself with RC's. So, if it's 3 or 4 mg off, I could care less. In comparison to the doses I've taken from someone who has a really badass scale though, it's right. I personally think it's actually very accurate.

It's over at my boyfriends house though... if you care enough for the name, let me know. Sounds like you're going for something nicer, though :)

Does anyone here have experience with both the Acculab VIC-123 & the MyWeigh GemPro 250?

From the information I've been able to scrape together from the big & dandy scale thread I'm leaning towards the GemPro 250, as apparently there's alot of drift with the Acculab =/.

I got a question about taring and scale accuracy.

If my scale weighs my 10.000g calibration weight at 9.995, does that mean if i put a gelcap on reading 0.100g and then put in enough powder to say 0.200g, have I put in 100mg? or like 95?

If it says 9.995 then it's calibrated off. It depends on the scale what this means. It's not accurate to read any number off that scale until 10 gram calibration weight says 10.000g. It might be off by 0.0005% or it might be off by 5mg.
