The Big & Dandy Psychedelic Books Thread

I'm not sure.... but I believe he plans to release it posthumously.

This way he can continue to add information until he dies.... and he doesn't have to worry about catching more shit from the government once it's released.

I certainly wish him no ill... but I also wish to pick up a copy when it comes out.

I heard it was going to print "at the end of this month" but i think that was in June lol.

So whats the score with the new book then? Anybody have any updated info?

I have hardback copies of the other two :)

I also wish he didn't develop the more highly potentised compunds of the DOx class but someone would have.

but we wouldnt have the 2c- series without the DOx series. iirc, it went mescaline --> tma --> tma2 --> dom/doet --> 2c series. without tma2 and the 'ten classic ladies' its doubtful the 2c series would've ever came into being

^ I'm glad that he developed all the chemicals in PiHKAL & TiHKAL. As he said, chemicals are neutral, its what people do with them that is either good or bad. Plus any of the entries in his books may lead to the production of even more valuable tools for studying the mind & brain in the future.

I wonder if the Psychedelic Index will contain info on some of the more recent compounds to come out of Dr. Nichols' lab at Purdue? I can't help but wonder if there's some secret stash of human bioassays of various Benzodifurans & NBO/NBM's waiting to be published.

Also, I'd read some speculation that Dr. Shulgin planned to work on this book for the rest of his life & have it published posthumously so that he could get the most possible work done on it and also possibly avoid any repercussions that would hinder his work, i.e. like having his lab raided after PiHKAL

I agree, I think the Bromo-DragonFly, 2C-TFM debacles are proof enough that it's good for someone like Dr. Shulgin to make a substance well known to the psychedelic community.

We still don't know the correct dose of pure Bromo-Dragonfly. First there was a batch with a dose of about 200-400mcg. Then a batch with a dose of 800-1300mcg. Now the new batch (which was misidentified as 2C-B-Fly), which appears to be 95%, pure seems to have a dose of more like 100-200mcg. Same thing with the 2C-TFM. It was only ~40% pure if I remember right, the last 60% being unreacted 2C-I. We would have known something was wrong from the beginning if we had a Shuglin style book on it.

New RCs will be made with or without a new Shulgin book, the problem will be the lack of testing before random kids ingest random quantities.

Plus deaths from all these random chemicals being brought to the market. BK-PMMA, I mean that just screams death. No known dosage range even. No wonder two people have already died from it.

Also all the made up names that make no sense. Mephedrone, Methedrone, Flephedrone, etc. Shulgin would have given them standardized names that weren't confusing. Basically all I'm trying to say is that super potent and psychedelics will be made regardless of whatever Shulgin releases. With Shulgin's content, we will at least have accurate information so we can practice harm reduction.

/Rant over, haha.

methylone is fine (methyl- for methylenedioxy and -one for it being a ketone) , but the rest certainly are not.
referring to the others as bk-xxxx would certainly make things easier

I really hope that Shulgin releases his research on the -fly, -hemifly, and -dragonfly compounds. Not having a "bellwether" on these compounds, so to speak, is very dangerous. We have no point of reference to defer to with these compounds, and as a result kids are dropping like flies. :(

Whether or not Shulgin intended for it to happen, the publication of Pihkal and Tihkal spawned a whole new generation of seekers, and opened up pandora's box in terms of as-yet-unsynthesized phenethylamines and tryptamines. He owes it to us to let us in on this extremely valuable information, we don't have time to wait for him to publish this work posthumously-- kids are literally dying without the information. :\

Shulgin, you are the Zayde of the psychonaut movement. Throw us a bone here, we need information on these compounds ASAP please!

I think MDMA has more real life impact for me. It's a drug that primarily effects my view on social interactions and ego, whereas LSD is very 'cosmic' and spiritual. Mushrooms are very 'shamanic' and spiritual but also very alien. Mushrooms are the most interesting of the group but also relate the least to reality, LSD relates to my spiritual reality and MDMA to the reality of my human interactions.

They are all pretty handy but mushrooms seams to be the least so. They do make me feel like I have to be a better person though.

MDMA is great for me, so have been the 2c-x's I've tried.

I am sure this is old news but those books are referenced often within the paper:

THE GOOD DRUG GUIDE
THERESPONSIBLEPARENT'SGUIDE
TOHEALTHYMOOD-BOOSTERS
FORALLTHE FAMILY

This is an excellent paper (no drug ingredients):
Biopsychiatry or "The Good Drug Guide" would be a good place to search the WWW.

^ :) Didn't see that bit.. sounds great! I bet loads of people have signed up, hope I'm not too late! It would be really interesting!
