☮ Social ☮ The Big & Dandy Movies for Tripping Thread

^no

Who framed rodger rabbit while on some very good mushies was absolutely HYSTERICAL!!!!! Pretty sure i laughed and had tears running down my face because of it the whole night!!!!!

The Shining and Donnie Darko we're both mindblowing flicks when I was spacing out on MXE. Next up I think is either The Virgin Suicides or perhaps Hackers :D. Both because I've seen them before; watching movies you haven't seen before is just confusing, at least on MXE.

Not a movie but Twin Peaks is absolutely fantastic to watch while tripping, slowly working my way through the box set atm

Roger Rabbit, yes, so funny & cool! Twin Peaks, yes, so mysterious and elegant... and the music!!

And anything Terry Gilliam... Time Bandits, Life of Brian, Adv of Baron von Munchhausen, BRAZIL, 12 Monkeys, Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, all so marvelous and full of wild trippy imagery, passionate emotion, music and WONDER!

to the people that have seen The Matrix tripping, did any part set off a bad trip? I'm very good at letting bad thoughts and visuals pass without taking much interest in them, I just know that movie is kind-of gnarly especally when cypher and neo are fighting.\
Also, Just the first one, or the trilogy?

No nothing upsetting. Full of wonder and the sort if ideas that get your mind really goiing. ALL 3 - people dis 2 & 3 but I loved them all. The way his powers developed in 2, the recurring dream of falling, the multiple Smiths battle, the freeway fight, the scene with The Key and meeting The Architect, the power of Love letting him put his hand inside Trinity to restart her heart at the end totatally had me in tears of joy and wonder. 3 - a little loud but it really amps the story up to the level of Myth, which is where they were going all along... and in this one the marvel and power of the orchestral score is really allowed to come out(brilliant on its own too, sooo intricate and thrilling with closed eyes for a super energetic CEV inducing music trip) by Don Davis based really on the music of modern American classical composer John Adams (listen to Harmonielehre, first and 3rd parts with their shifting brass tone clusters and the repeated energy-power-chord-slams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFj9NSh6x90, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9k_eTPbOiY [change to highest quality settings for better sound, and listen LOUD!]... it *IS* The Matrix music! But Davis's take really expands on it, an intentional homage, just glorious and ecstatic)

The first time I ever watched 2001: A Space Odyssey was at a movie theater that was doing a Stanley Kubrick tribute thing. Me and my friend gobbled up about 5 grams of cubenzis between us about 10-15 minutes before the movie started. We started tripping right around the part where the apes discover the first Obelisk and we both peaked around the part where he goes through the tunnel of light. Me and my friend both looked at each other at that part and just gave each other this understanding look and we both smiled at the same time.:D

I also watched this movie whilst tripping on LSD. Twas amazing, Espicially for its time. I have only ever seen it on LSD. Couldn't imagine it would be as great sober.

I had one reallllly great acid trip that started with me watching the movie "Hard to Kill" with Stephen Seagal as it came up then shortly after that I watched one of my favorite movies..

2001: A Space Odyssey!

if there was ever a movie to trip to that is the one. It's epic, and the main theme is arranged in a way that resembles a really awesome and epic
EUREKA! type of revelation :D

great for an acid trip that is already going well.

Ghostbusters and ketamine

I just want to recommend this combination of amusement/entertainment. While I don't touch the stuff any more, I watched this movie two or three times while skating around the hole and it left such an impression with me that I feel some real sense of depersonalization while watching it sober to this day, over two years later.

I seriously recommend it. It's hilarious.
It also made ketamine feel very 80's subsequent times. You won't regret it.
I imagine all you new-age dissociators would probably be able to enjoy this with methoxetamine however I have no experience with this.

Does any one have any particular movies they would like to recommend for inner or outer voyages? Mods, if you'd like to turn this into a Psychedelics and Movies thread at some point, I'm game ;)

I tried to watch 'Naked Lunch' on ketamine once, because I figured it would be a massive mind-warp, but it wasn't really, it just made less sense, and was kind of boring to honest. But then I turned on 'Arrested Development', and for some reason, I started to get really scared and slink back into my couch. I felt like the personalities on the show were the future of humanity, and there was no hope for survival

in other words sitcoms and psychedelics don't mix

I agree there completely. A lot of sitcoms have really horrible acting that is easy to ignore sober but the moment you throw some psychs in there, it's blatantly obvious how you are wasting your time watching shit. Arrested Development is not one of them though.

One thing I do like about sitcoms is that the plot isn't as important as the characters. I get very lost in movies I haven't seen before when I've taken something.

Another movie I really enjoyed during an exceptionally long comedown from LSD was I, Robot. Surprisingly deep movie. That was my first time seeing it and I gotta say, great stuff.

I really try not to watch TV on drugs but sometimes I can't find the right music, ya know?

eye wide open: OMFG I cannot believe you never saw The Matrix. Go get that, dose up, wait till when you really start to trip, then turn down the lights and turn up the surround sound PRESS PLAY and HANG ON!! You are about to be blown away in a manner you never imagined any film would ever do. That shit is RIGHT up your alley like you cannot even imagine! (Then please start a new thread with your review, but be sure to post a link to it here, OK?)

You should only watch the first one anyway the others suck.

Matrix 2 is actually also a very good film. The way his powers developed, the recurring dream of falling, the multiple Smiths battle, the freeway fight, the scene with The Key approaching the door (UTTERLY TRIPPY AND VERY BEAUTIFUL!) and meeting The Architect, then of course the fall when it "really" happens, and the "magical" act at the end of it... that crescendo of events each more intense than the last just blew me away... all pretty amazing and very good and intense, perfect to watch tripping.

Some people just go along with written reviewers' garbage prose and think they ought to hate 2 & 3 as well but they are just being sheep, reacting like instructed by stupid square "Film Review" assholes.

And some seem to expect the same kind of "OMG!" of the famous "taking the red pill" scene from 1. But that was really a one-of-a-kind scene, a perfect classic moment the likes of which where never imagined in any film or story, and nothing can ever match that. So get over it. Matrix 3: Revolutions was also good, if you know to expect something more loud than before. There were trying to reach a new height of "epic-ness" and conclude the story-arc at a level of BIG MYTH, rather than an intimate personal story that slowly draws you in which was the original. 2 is the transition from the personal to the mythical. 3 is The MYTHICAL in all its over-the-top-ness.

So they are 3 very different films, each with different goals, telling a continuing story.

Blazing Saddles... So hilarious. You'll be laughing so hard, especially if you have not seen it yet. Mel Brooks is awesome. The cast is great.

Touch was an awesome movie to watch while tripping. It was pretty light-hearted, but had a lot of different things going on. Christopher Walken was amazing in this movie.

There are probably some others I would like to put down, but I can't find 'em in my memory at the time. The exception being scanner darkly, but I didn't really watch it. I exited because I was tripping too hard to watch a movie.

Movies are real nice in the latter half of a 2c trip I think. I have been meaning to go to the theatre with a dose of 2cI, but have not had the chance yet.

^Yea 2C-I can be (CAN be, for some, mileage may vary!) more clear-headed than other trips... a well timed 20-25mg 1.5-2 hours before showtime can give a film more intense colors and enhance visual appearance in other ways... give you a somewhat cosmic, trippy mental attitude and in general make you get more caught up in the story and especially the emotional moments of a movie. But making it through the lobby and lines and crowds can be pretty edgy on such a highly stimulating drug... and if you do a low dose, those side effects will be less but so will the trip itself.

Can't believe I haven't even seen the matrix yet and there is three of them. lol
Guess I haven't been getting out much.

hehe...yesterday i said to my girlfriend that i wish that i haven´t seen the matrix and yet and could watch it now.

alejandro jodorowsky's THE HOLY MOUNTAIN (1973)
2v3lyde.gif

absolutely mindblowing, breathtaking visual cinematography that has been, at least for me, equally AMAZING on 2c-xx, LSD, DOx, mescaline, psilocybin, etc..

i'd include all the photos/links but i am posting from the phone, someone do me the favor!

Absolutely this. QFT! One of the most important movies ever made IMO. Overkill almost with the symbolism. Watched when tripping more than a little you will probably not understand a whole lot of it since the metaphors can run very deep and often need you to have some background knowledge, I highly recommend you check up on what "enneagrams" are before watching it, for example. But it's very avant garde so when tripping hard it will probably be even more absurd to you... then watch it another time later when you are (more or less) sober. :)
