The Big & Dandy First-Time-Tripper Thread

The few times I took acid as a teenager, I just remember getting pissed because it was 6am and I couldn't sleep yet. LOL

I think the visions people report are highly exaggerated. The walls didn't "bleed" but yeah you will stare at a wall for what seems like a few seconds but it's actually been an hour.

I never had any really bad trips. As long as you're in a cool environment. I used to hang with friends and walk to a park near my house and swing on the swings. My sister tried to fuck with me once and told me that the liquid on the ground from my friends car was break fluid and they were going to die, so I got a little paranoid that night.

Overall it was a cool experience, but I like my sleep and I could never fall asleep until like noon the next day. It took me the weekend to recover and by Monday it felt like I accomplished nothing. I'm probably in the minority though when I say I would pass up the chance if it was offered to me now.

You should have an awesome time. First time acid trips are always something special, more so if you do it right with good friends and in a comfortable environment.

Forget about benzo, you'll have a great time anyway. Report back in once you try LSD.

I am also on venlafaxine (Effexor) and I can say that it will probably dampen (but in no way prevent) the overall trip. That is, you will likely have a higher tolerance for the effects than most people because of venlafaxine and will require a higher dose. As this shall be your first time, I wouldn't go nuts with the dose, but be aware that you might need a little bit more than others to really "break through."

Also, don't worry too much about having 'terrifying hallucinations.' Contrary to media portrayals, genuine de novo hallucinations (seeing/interacting with things that are not even real objects) are rare with classical serotonergic psychedelics. You are far more likely to experience an "alteration/enhancement of normal visual perception," as if someone had turned the gain of your visual system way up. The world will still be the same, but you will perceive it with much greater contrast, higher color saturation, glowing edges around objects and translucent, fractal-like colored textures on surfaces. Your perception of objects will be different, so you may think certain things appear different than they actually are, but it is extremely rare to have paranoid/delusional type hallucinations (unless you have a history of schizophrenia, in which case you should avoid psychedelics all together).

I'm with everyone else on the idea of pulling the escape cord during a trip (that is, benzoing your trip to death)--only do this in the event of an emergency. If you do it just to 'come down,' your trip will not be as rewarding or psychically beneficial. Have fun, stay in a safe environment and we'll see you on the other side.

thanks guys. im so excited. i will definitely report back with my trip. i cant wait. as for the effexor, i have noticed that i cant seem to really roll good now. which sucks. even when i was on zoloft, i could still roll pretty good.

another question, i have the blotter paper, do i swallow the square or is it suppose to be sucked on? i've heard both

^Hold it under your tongue for awhile, then swallow. I'd suggest taking 2. I always suggest that for first timers, doubly so in this case due to the anti depressant dampening the trip already.

i only have one for me and one for my girl. i had to get it out of town, there is absolutely none where i am. do you think i still will get a decent trip out of just one?

Psychedelics are analogous to life. People take LSD because it makes them feel pleasure and an inherent need to fill the chemical void that is the human brain. It also leads to contented thinking. You have all the power you need in your own brain. Just be confident and truthful. If you're in a situation you don't like... move. If you don't want to do something, don't. You'll never be the same again. Just as you'll never be the same again after watching a powerful movie or eating a tasty foreign food or getting laid, but damn. And that being said I've eaten acid a couple hundred times and maybe 1 out of 10 has been life altering in a huge way. Just don't expect anything and have faith that whatever happens will happen. People only get upset when they try to force something. Rock it baby!

:)

Peace,
PL

If you smoke pot regularly, it can be a great potentiator. I consider it a waste of acid for myself if I don't have plenty of pot, and I've never had visuals on acid without either taking a lot (4+ hits) or smoking a lot of pot. If you don't smoke often, be careful with the pot; it is more likely to make an inexperienced smoker paranoid or anxious while tripping, and you don't want that to interfere with your trip :)

my first gud acid trip was pretty fun and exciting. The first thing i leanred from that trip is don't be around alot of ppl! that is super important.
also u cud use da xanax to help u sleep but im not too sure on the reaction of that combo

The reaction is reduced anxiety, which leads to a much smoother trip. Imo, i like to refrain from using any sort of anti-anxiety substance so that it isn't a 'fake' trip. If there is something that is pulling me into a bad trip, it could be something that you need to experience and learn from so you can better yourself from it. Bad trips spawn from things in your life that cause you grief, anxiety, unhappiness, etc and they are presented to you in a frightening way, and i believe taking xanax, valium etc to mask the emotion is wrong and and a disgrace. You have to take some bad with the good, and you'll be happy you did in the end. This is my opinion and i don't frown upon anyone who makes this decision.

The same goes for taking Benzodiazepines as prescripted, your problems aren't going away, they are just being masked. It takes true willfulness and the desire to experience things to overcome your problems. Taking a pill never made anyones problems magically go away.

That all depends on how much you took, and weather you combined it with anything else.

It's all about how you perceive things.. i've seen shadows form into flames and dance, lips move up and down on tree's. Marijuana will usually intensify visuals, at least for me.

It just enhances everything in great detail, so you'll see, hear, think, maybe even taste in different ways.

Anyway, give dancing a go while on it too.. incredibly amazing feeling =D

I found for me, the trip goes smoother and i can explore more if im not trying to engage in conversations with people, goodluck.. your gonna love it :)

my first time on acid was amazing, even though it was shitty acid. best drug i've done so far... i dono what others will say to this but longboarding on acid was the shit although thats your choice cause it could be dangerous.

dont fight the trip have fun

Benzos should be used in the case of people becoming delusional, violent, or acting psychotic. Don't let someone's trip continue if they are clearly heavily intoxicated and trying to communicate conspiracies or other such things. If they seem a bit frightened of their trip, then OK, let them be unless they are begging for the Xanax, but if they are in a place that you do not think is right, where they are truly acting crazy but haven't necessarily gone over the edge, I personally recommend giving it to them. I've seen a buddy go completely psychotic on shrooms and had I had a benzo around and could go back I would have given it to him a fair amount of time before he started to become violent.

You just know when someone is experiencing something spiritual or something delusional; it's something you will have to feel in your gut and will have to decide on your own to administer. Actually none of this is your responsibility as you are tripping, it is your sitters responsibility to be educated and I recommend he reads this thread. You will not be in a position to determine whether your friend needs the benzo or not as I have had a few situations where I was tripping and believed one of my friends was on the edge, but in reality no one else saw this, and they in fact saw this in me, so look out for that too. Remember once you become delusional you will not realize this, so you must trust your sitter and fellow trippers to be keeping an eye on you as much as everyone else.

4 hits to get visuals? what kind of acid are you taking??? shit, good blotter should be 1 hit to get very noticeable visuals

Hits are not a standardized measurement. My hardest trip was off one drop of liquid. It was the most life altering and intense psychedelic experience of my life. Also I'm kind of a hard head compared to everyone I know. I rarely get visuals beyond what I experience not tripping unless I eat enough to have an almost unpleasant body load. Some people consider the waviness and minor visuals not to be visuals.

Effexor shouldn't be a problem. As for Xanax. Well, personally, it is my opinion that trips should only be aborted in the most extreme cases. IMO, it is better to let the person ride it out and come to terms with whatever personal demon it is that they're likely confronting.

What if there is no "personal demon" and the drug is just giving them general anxiety?

IME, 9 times out of 10, if someone is having a lot of anxiety and there was no pot involved, there's something going on that they need to deal with. That's just my experience, though.
