not a problem at all. you shouldn't have any problem at all asking about a beta blocker as they have no potential for abuse.

i've had absolute no success with the ssri/ap's route myself. beta blockers and benzo's have been the most successful for myself.
 
Yeah, my psych is pretty cool so it shouldn't be a hassle I think. Unlike my old one, dosing me up on Paxil, Luvox and Seroquel for anxiety. Stupid cunt.
 
Although not an entirely new concern, new studies are enlightening! A 15 year study - Benzodiazepine use and risk of dementia: prospective population based study

Studies focusing on the association between benzodiazepine use and dementia or cognitive decline in elderly people have shown conflicting results. Some found an increased risk of dementia or cognitive impairment in benzodiazepine users, whereas others were not conclusive or reported a potential protective effect. In previous studies, the timing of exposure to benzodiazepines in relation to the outcome event allowed for the possibility of reverse causation. Insomnia, depression, and anxiety (the main indications for prescribing benzodiazepines) can be prodromal symptoms of dementia.

The findings of this large prospective population based study show that new use of benzodiazepines is associated with an approximately 50% increase in the risk of dementia. The results remained robust after control for potential confounders, in pooled analysis across the follow-up time, and in a nested case-control study. Considering the extent to which benzodiazepines are now prescribed, physicians and regulatory agencies should consider the increasing evidence of the potential adverse effects of this drug class for the general population.

I'm in that same situation, I have severe PTSD and am on .5mg of Clonazapam 3 times daily, the problem is i take them and I know that the dosage is not quite high enough, so I take 4 a day, but am nervous to mention this to my Dr. for being pegged as a " drug seeker ". I used to be perscribed 6 .5mg a day and had no problems with abusing them. A big problem I have is that I always run out a bit early and am forced to find them elsewhere, therefore becoming a "drug seeker" ! I see people abusing benzos all the time, to get super drunk, I find it very frusterating that those people who don't really need them have better access to them than the people who do.
 
I always seem to dose myself when making a etizolam solution. This time i wore a dust mask and gloves...any ideas how it could have penetrated?
 
the effective dose of benzos is pretty varied for different people. If your taking them daily your gonna end up with tolerance and 2mg a day is still a pretty low dose. My doctor lets me decide my effective dose and is happy enough with my use that I can ask for some whenever. Really if your requiring benzos every day to function its going to end badly though. Have you ever considered using MDMA to help with PTSD? As a one off thing MDMA has been documented to permanently cure people of PTSD. Potentially can rewire parts of your brain responsible for looping thought patterns

Sorry if the formatting on this gives you the shits but benzo use in older ppl seems more like a way to just shut them up more than anything else. Which makes sense from a big pharmacy perspective of "oh well someone has to take these drugs with a massive addition potential and little to no plans for withdrawing from the, may as well give it to the old codgers see if it'll shut them the fuckup" and that leaves aside the overall side effects of making ppl with circulatory issues more prone to sit in a chair all day.

(again, unless I've missed something but) The study was about the treatment of para-somnias/anxiety with benzodiazepines and it's associated increased risk of dementia.

Did it say/imply the benzodiazepines are being used as a "patch" to treat (non-indicated) geriatric conditions? 8o

The amount of people I met in jail that were there for things that they did on Xanax that they didn't remember was just insane.

I'm just finding recently that diazepam sort of creeps up on me, where's temazepam give me a bit of a kick not long after sublingual dosing.
I do have a very low benzo tolerance (but lately it's been rising) and maybe I'm not comparing by proper dosage, usually always take a fair bit more temazepam, mainly due to being more experienced with it.

Yes thats correct. I can usually get temaz from my GP fairly easily. 20-30mg is enough to assist sleep (assuming no excessive stim use during the day).... but for a recreational dose combined with codeine I need at least 50mg+. Its not the most potent benzo but its still worth having for combining with codeine or whatever.... or heck (yes I just said heck ::), just as a sleep aid. Shock horror 8o, used as prescribed lol.
 
How many days a week/month can someone take benzos without developing tolerance and physical dependence?

I try to keep it to 10-15 days a month usually, but sometimes I have horrible anxiety for more than 15 days in a month.
 
There's no set time (although some would argue 2 weeks) everyone's body chemistry is different, I wouldn't take them if you don't need them every day. You might have an addictive personality, or something else to aid your addiction. Cant really tell ya for sure...
 
:D Order arrived today, 10 x 2mgs. Nice to have them and not need to take them.
 
I posted this in an old thread that had been bumped so I may get an answer here for my question.....

I have taken benzos as required for a decade. By as required I may not have any for a month & then have a small dose daily 10-15mg for a week if I am under a lot of pressure. I was prescribed them as I have a serious gambling addiction (nearly 5 years of recovery now). I switched between Xanax & Valium but Xanax fucked me up pretty good short term.

Maybe someone with some experience can answer my question. At the height of my gambling after another 3 day gambling binge with no sleep (no drugs either just running on insanity) I decided to kill myself. I did not know what would happen & I was in somewhat of a state at the time. I ended up taking 200mg of Val & the worst thing happened. Not only did I wake up 2 days later on the bathroom floor having scored a trifecta having pissed, spewed & shat myself but I felt like I was dying. I went to bed for a sleep & woke up feeling fine.

It was all good for 2-3 weeks & then I was hit with a sledgehammer of withdrawal symptoms as I had used all my Valium. Could that have something to do with the long 1/2 life of Valium considering I was taking from 0-15mg a day & then had a huge dose? It is something I have wondered about for 7 years so maybe someone here might know?

I learnt my lesson bigtime & respect benzos for what they are but am curious. Also why would a Dr prescribe benzos for a period of 6 (2mg Xanax daily) months then cut you off & tell you nothing about withdrawals you will have? Thank god my Dr understands why I need Valium & knows I don't shop around so gives me a script every 60 days or so.
 
A doctor should NOT be prescribing you Xanax like that, that is hugely irresponsible.


And yes what you experienced was benzodiazepine withdrawal. Huge doses of a drug with a longer half like (eg. Valium, Clonazepam etc) will cause withdrawal symptoms. I experienced the same thing after a suicide attempt except with Phenobarbital w/ds.
FYI, it is extremely hard to die from a benzo OD if it just benzos alone.
 
I was on escitalopram for a couple weeks, hated it, so I stopped on Friday. Today I've got the worst case of brain zaps.
Just can't relax.

Would a couple of temaz make things worse? I'm even grinding my teeth, it's giving me the shits big time.

I had my usual weed hit after work, and it seems to have made things worse.
