the 2010 NBA playoffs!

I saw an interesting article comparing lebron to kevin garnett. not style of game wise but career wise. Garnet was teen phenom to enter the nba, put up some phenominal seasons with phenominal stats. some averaging 24 points 14 rebounds 6 assists and 2 blocks per game and finally, he gave his loyalty to a franchise that couldnt seem to win a championship (minnesota). garnetts words of advice to lebron: "loyalty is something that hurts you at times because you can't get youth back"

my money says lebron goes to miami or stays in cleveland. miami if winning a ring is his number one priority, clevland if legacy is number one on his list

anyways on to THIS season. another throw back finals would be nice, LA vs Boston :)

Nah, he's not going to Miami.

If he wants to win championships, he'll sign with Chicago. But he cares about marketing and being a celebrity more than a basketball player, so he'll probably end up going to New York.

i think he can win a championship in miami, he and wade would be a good 1 -2 punch, and pat riley is a coach with a championship pedigree. I think it would be tough for lebron not to be the face of a franchise though

Did you guys read this yet? Very well written Simmons article on Lebron.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100514&sportCat=nba

Very well-written article.

BUT!!!!!

That motherfucker talks as if ALL OF US (He even says "we" several times") were under the impression that LeBron was better than Kobe (or even Wade)!

He fell for it, most of you fuckers fell for it, but many of us didn't!

And ironically, it was the media HATING on Kobe for the "rape" and for being the "bad guy" he was in the Shaq debacle that made SO MANY of you (SIMMONS!) not even realize that you are BIASED AGAINST KOBE!

Look at the list of players Simmons lists at the end of his article.

TWENTY-FOUR.

You know who he left off?

Kobe.

Even when he FIANLLY admitted that he (WE?) was wrong on LeBron all along, he STILL had to take a shot at Kobe.

Fucker.

LeBron is a better player than Kobe

You cant compare Cleveland and the Lakers and say because Lakers are better that Kobe is better

Lakers have the best coach to ever coach the game, in Phil Jackson. Cavs have a young coach in Mike Brown.

Kobe got to play with a young, dominant Shaq. Now Gasol, Bynum, and Odom. And LeBron has got to play with Big Z, Varejo, and an old, expiring Shaq.

LeBron is definitely the better player, he just hasnt had the support that Kobe has.

I bet LeBron stays in Cleveland.

LeBron is a better player than Kobe

Based on WHAT exactly?

An extra couple of rebounds and assists per REGULAR SEASON game?

How many times does LeBron have to fold in important clutch situations in must-win play-off games before his supporters finally admit that HE'S NOT THE GREATEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE?

If, hypothetically, LeBron's high school games HADN'T been televised, he would simply be considered to be just another one in a long line of excellent athletes who weren't quite good enough to win it all.

Which would be accurate.

But instead of working with Hakeem Olujuwon on his post-up game during the off-season (as THE GREATEST player in the NBA did this past summer), LeBron can focus on smiling for the cameras, clapping his hands full of chalk, and wearing Yankee caps.

Loser.

I think at this point it should be obvious that Lebron isnt at the level that kobe is at.

but hello people playoff basketball has returned, enough lebron vs kobe talk, anybody want to mention how the magic got schooled today by the celtics

Cs stole game 1 as I thought they would. Long layoffs between series always hurt the "resting" team in game 1. Now the series begins in earnest. 'Superman' wont be ordinary for the rest of this series so I hope that ol' Cs' D can maintain its intensity.

I'm curious as to how sloppy the game 1 Suns/Lakers game will be after so many days off.

I have no problems accepting my beating NOW. But while it's happening, it's a tough pill to swallow. I'm sure you're probably a Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots fan or something so I wouldn't expect you to know what it's like to work for something, but trust me... it's rough to watch your team roll over and die like that, not once, not twice, but three times in 3 years. Plus when you add up all the other Cleveland teams... I don't even think curses are this cruel, it's something far worse.

I am and that's exactly why I know what its like. The sox took 67 years to win another series and the Celtics have sucked until they got "the big 3". My teams are now bearing the fruit of years of shit. If anyone doesn't know what its like its you "Cleveland " fans who get lebraun and expect to win. Boston fans expect their teams to blow it. For the majority of my life all 4 major sports teams had done nothing but. For the record I hate Tom Brady

You have the luxory of picking whatever team you want. I and every other Bostonian was born into their teams. Now my teams do well and you say I don't know what its like. This time next year you probably wont even like Cleveland just because lebraun wont be there. No sir, I am loyal to my teams through good and bad. If anyone knows what its like its me, not you. Its rough? Ha read up on the past 20 years of all my teams and then come say that.

Edit- go bruins... oh wait they just got reverse swept. Remember when the pats played the giants in the bowl? You know when they went undefeated and then lost... I'm patiently waiting to learn just what its like

LeBron is a better regular season player than Kobe

Fixed.

Regular season ain't shit. If you watch basketball, you'd know that teams play tougher defense in the postseason, and the older players start playing harder (ie Fisher, KG, etc)

Finals MVP > MVP.

And Kobe will win it again.

damn, looks like Cleveland can add another debacle to their list of sports debacles. I will call this one the LeBacle. Coach Mike Brown proved to be a lame-duck, with a coaching style that I will call "high on marijuana." neither Mo Williams or Antwan Jamison truly stepped up in this post-season, leaving the Christ-like burden of a championship on LBJ's shoulders. while this worked when he was breaking out (a la Kevin Durant), once you spend so many years in the NBA good coaches will coach their defenses up accordingly.

I am going to call a Finals that I don't think anyone else is calling.

Phoenix VS Boston... with the Suns winning in six.

I know... I'm a hypocrite, but I felt that I needed to respond!

I hate to take this thread off topic (again), so you won't hear from me again unless it's pertinent to this NBA playoffs.

Johnny Blue...

I'm going to respond to you and leave it at that. If you want to continue the debate, feel free to PM me. I'll be civil, I promise. :)

Anyways. I was merely being a dick because I was annoyed at the way you phrased what you said. My point was this: Yes there was a long drought for the Red Sox, but give me a break, the Celts have won at least one title every decade except the 90s. The city of Boston has been far from deprived of a championship team. Cleveland hasn't won a title in any sport since 1964 when the Browns won... and it wasn't even called the superbowl yet so naturally everyone dismisses it as if it doesn't matter.

Your point about me not knowing what it's like because we got Lebron and expected to win makes no sense considering... I STILL don't know what it's like to win a championship. We didn't expect to be handed anything. It's not like we were able to buy 3 big time superstars or anything.

^ That might be the most idiotic statement made by anyone ever regarding anything in history. First off... being born into your teams isn't exclusive to Boston, so you can throw that theory out the window. I'm not a front runner, I'm not a traitor, I stick to my teams and I always will, win or lose. If you think being born into a Boston fan base automatically makes you an elite fan, you're completely off your rocker, you're not special. And I could give you a vicious list of downfalls by Cleveland teams that would far outweigh the ever so tragic winnings of your city's 6 titles in the last 10 years. The city of Boston has won 19 titles since the last time the city of Cleveland has, so clearly you have a better understanding of futility than I do.

So yes, you're right... I don't know what it's like, but you sure do. 8)

so there are reports that Kobe had to get fluid drained from his right knee, and that bynum reports his knee is feeling worse... really hope the lakers can battle through it for 2 more series on a quest for the repeat.

I am certainly hoping the Suns show up and win tonight

You guys are all ignoring that Kobe has a better supporting cast than LeBron does. I mean Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum is the best 4-5 combination in the NBA

To say LeBron is worse than Kobe because none of the Cavaliers showed up in the playoffs is stupid. They got beat by a veteran Boston team who is loaded up will hall of famers. Give Boston some credit and quit being LeBron haters.

Especially after watching how the Celtics trashed Orlando in Orlando for Game 1

The Celts are really playing like they WANT this. I didn't get to see their game against the Magic, but if it was as one sided as I've been told, then who knows...

As for the west... I'd like to see the Suns win, more or less because I like Nash and Stoudamire, but a little bit because if the Lakers beat the Suns, I have a good feeling they'll win it all, and god knows I don't wanna hear about it at work for the next year.

Besides that, if Lebron leaves Cleveland after this season's epic collapse while Kobe and the Lakers go on to win the Championship... life will suck for the rest of time.

This is James posting on AC's account. I have been woken from my BL slumber because I was told of Johnny Blue's comments comparing Boston teams and Cleveland teams. This is an apples and oranges subject because there can simply be NO COMPARISON!! You cannot compare Cleveland hardship to ANY other major pro sport town as whole. It is just simply not possible.

Cleveland fans are desperate, desperate people. Willing to hold on to any semblance of hope because they are used to nothing but dissapointment. Why do I know this? Because I have lived here for the last 15 years. They still think that LeBron might stay for God sakes! PLEASE!

Now let me say this up front: I am a Pittsburgh fan. I have no rooting interest in the Browns. The Indians and the Cavs have come to grow on me. I am not trying to justify any of "my hardships" here because I do not have any. My favorite teams (the Steelers and Penguins) have recently won titles. On the flip side of that coin, the Pirates are an abysmal pile of dog shit. They are about to set a record for the most losing seasons in a row by a major league team. That said, I would NEVER compare the hardship of a Pirates fan to that of a Cleveland fan, because the comparison just cannot be made.

The end all for this argument is Bill Simmons' (a huge Boston sports fan) article on "Levels of Losing": http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100129&sportCat=nfl. You will notice in this list that Cleveland is one here three times in the top 10. THREE!! They only have 3 sports teams.

So Johnny Blue, the moral of the story is this: please don't throw out these Boston stats and expect ANYONE to feel sorry for you. All you wind up doing is make Boston fans look like whiny bastards. You guys have a good sports history, please don't make us hate you. Don't become the Notre Dame of professional sports ;)

Boston title since 1965:

Celtics: 12
Patriots: 3 *
Red Sox: 2 *
Bruins: 2

Cleveland titles since 1965:

Browns: 0 **
Indians: 0
Cavaliers: 0

* All won in last 10 years
** Won last NFL title in 1964. Pre-Super Bowl era.

Growing up in Columbus you learned to only root for the Buckeyes

The losing of both Cleveland and Cincinnati is awful. Although the Reds have brought some early season excitement.

How many of those Celtic wins were during anyone here's lifetime? It was Ryan that called me a Celtics, red sox, pats fan. Shouldn't I be? The overall history of my teams didn't console me when they constantly loss. I didn't experience it. My point is Cleveland teams make it nowhere consistently. In this very case they didn't even make the semi finals and lost and somehow this is more painful than anything else in sports. There are tons of desperate sports fans out there. What happened in my city before I was born doesn't change the fact that all of my teams consistently lost growing up. Having lebraun and losing in a playoff series that will be forgotten next year doesn't mean Cleveland is anymore deserving than anyone else. How can you even experience disappointment without getting anywhere?

Baww my teams suck stop beating up my star player! I'm gonna call you out because before you were born your teams were better.

Anyways the Cs look good. I'd like to see the suns. They are playing their hearts out and deserve it. Of course if the Cs go I would mind hearing BEAT LA! throughout my city either.
