Terrorist attack on London

It's confirmed that 12 are dead now.

Funny how according to channel 7 news it is definitely Al-Qaeda responsible yet according to SBS news it is unconfirmed.

The hostel that i was staying at in London is right where the bus blew up (Tavistock Square). If anybody's done a Euro Contiki Tour, the Contiki Hotel is right around the corner too so I imagine there'd be quite a few aussies in the area (and anybody staying in that neighbourhood would use the Russell Square tube station where another one of the explosions was).

Ah, if these attacks have all been orchestrated by the same group it seems unikely that the dates would have been planned according to some barely tangible pattern. It's not like these terrorists are making a crossword puzzle...

Attacks would have been planned merely for convenience of getting them orchestrated + maybe some other significant events on the days in question (such as the G8 meeting starting today).

Terrorists won't follow a pattern, then people would know when an attack is due. Their whole idea is to keep everyone in a constant state of fear, always looking over their shoulder. Random places of significance and random times.

Always hurting a whole lot of inocent people.

One of my best friends is in central london now, I've tried to contact them but failed. Quite concerned :(

i feel like a fucking idiot. i'd totally been relieved hearing from 2 very dear friends over there, and i think in my concern/relief compeltley forgot about 2 of my oldest friends over there. i'm a fucking idiot. :( :X

thankfully they're ok as well. but my heart absolutely and utterly goes out to anyone who has loved ones over there :(

Glad to hear your friends are okay Mary Poppins. and amen to that.

I've got friends over there - havent heard from them but they should be a safe distance away from it all.

both my brothers would have been on one of the trains near the explosions but decided to drive to work today, my cousin would have been on the train near the explosion at the financial district but went to work early that day and got on the train before it, he works right near the train station of the financial district or whatever they are calling it and is watching the outcome as we speak. I rang my brothers straight away before the mobile coverage got shutdown, they were unaware of it till i told them. Very glad they decided to drive to work!

Ravenattack - my better half - is leaving london today. i got a text message to say that her and her family (who live in london) are all ok. i'm still a little scared for her to be flying right now, but i would rather have her safe and here than on the other side of the world.

travel safe nat, see you soon.

Being on the tube and in the city itself when it happened I can give you a bit more insight as to what happened, in short form.

*4-6 explosions. One suicide bomber blew up a bus. Seeing footage of that was frightening (thankfully I only saw that on TV, but still)
*2 trains trapped down at Edgeware road station with people still on it.
*All tube and bus services suspended in central london
*People running around looking lost and panicking.
*Walking through Moorgate a lot of streets were closed off.
*Police cars and ambulences are going absolutely Pete Tong. That's pretty much all you could hear.

Basically I got shuttled off the tube and was stranded. After trying to get countless busses to work, they announced that the bus services were shutting down too. I had to walk from Oxford St to East London and then catch 4 busses home, as they have limited bus services in that area atm. The streets in central london are just emptying out. Taxi's are charging people an absolute fortune to get anywhere as well. The whole journey took about 5 hours, from when I got shuttled out, to when I finally made it through my front door.

This attack seemed to be aimed more at working people, not the government or anything else. It's absolutely disgusting to say the least, and very strange. I'm just glad that everyone I know is ok.

yeah... what crazy events ..

just always wonder how much information the news channels give is accurate .....like with figures of people injured and the perpetrators ..

just hope most people survived ....

Yeah I walked all along those bombed places last year during my trip and stopped at those tube terminals as well. In strange way it's brought back some fond memories. But my god how sick is it all, especially the last blast near the bus where people were fleeing the Kings Cross explosion!

It's getting way too much attention on the morning chat shows (eg Sunrise). The Madrid blast killed 3 times as many people, but they didn't give it that much attention. I guess some us convicts still feel attached to the motherland.

Has anyone heard anything from Taliana ???

from what i last read in her journal she was in the UK???

Still, this has just caused another round of shit, on the train this morning on the way to work, it was real edgy and everyone was second looking at each other!!!

Found out my mates over there are all ok, which is great :D

For God's sake give them what they want and get all Western Economic and military forces out of muslim holy lands!

Its a small price to pay for the sake of human life!

The media is going to have fun with this for a couple of days id say.. however what strikes me as strange is that when the crisis in darfur (DARFUR???????) was going on we usually got a little tiny piece of footage of some dirty camp and starving babies. Over 100,000s of people were killed and terrorised. Maybe white blood is cleaner :| And it goes to show, we only care about what effects us emotionally.

A dead Londoner is more important then a dead African?

What al-queda is doing is absolute chicken feed if you care to put things in perspective. They are just another thorn in the side of Western Imperialism which has the cheeky little habit of hiding under the guise of Democracy

What im getting at is that in theory, i support Osama's ideology in regards to The US involvement in the Middle East. I dont know why people are surprised this is going on. You only have to go as far as opening a history text book to find out.

I dont agree with the loss of civilian life, even though the West has taken a fair few in battles on foreign soil. I think Osama and his mates should stick to political targets such as the White House, Aircraft Carriers and the DEA =D

even more reason to get the fuck out of other peoples' countries . . .

$50 says Sydney is next in the next 12 months . . .

this is what you get when you constantly vote in right-wing fuck-ups around the globe . . .

Its also why Al-Queda is doing what it is doing. Underneath all the media bullshit, hype and public opinion, this is really a battle between rich and poor. Advantaged and Dis-Advantaged. The people the West neglected for years and finally comming back and are biting us where it hurts.

Disadvantaged muslims turned to the only thing that inspired and provided for them, extreamist Islam.

^^ Ofcourse its more complecated. I would need a year to go into detail. However this is an economic war, not a religious or ideological one...
