This cheeky lil kitty invited herself in to my boyfriend's house one day when he was at work. Her name is Rogue and she loves to play with bugs in my bf's garden. He doesn't like cats much, but he is very sweetly entertaining my love of cats by allowing me to continue to welcome Rogue in to his backyard for pats and neighbourly love She is really sweet and comes to me when I call her now hahaha :D I can't help it!

I know right!! :D However, she does have an owner, she has a collar. So I can't spoil her too much. I know how pissed I'd be if someone started feeding and playing with my kitty. (NB: I haven't started feeding her yet )

OMG I agree she is so tall & gorgeous!

Even though I'm not a cat person (everyone star bashing me ) But some cats are just down right awesome. I'm not a dog person either...I just can't stand the hair getting on everything, I love them from afar. So reptiles and fish it is, maybe a hairless cat.

My boyfriend is a very blatant non cat person. He puts up with our cat but certainly doesn't talk to it or give kisses or nose touch with it like I do :3

Hahaha after 3 years of being with my bf and him making it perfectly clear he didn't want a cat I knew what I had to do. I brought one home and deflected the negativism. He still doesn't like her but he got very upset when she got out of the house and disappeared for 3 days. Unless he was faking . (I've also learned letting the one who doesn't want the animal pick the name helps--BF named the cat lol) (It also helps to have an awesome BF)

I also did this with my first dog while living in NJ with my BFs mother. We went on a 500 mile road trip to get out first dog from the breeder and she had no idea. We walked in with her and stuck her in her arms before she could saying anything and we're like "SO CUTE!!!!"

Then the 2nd dog we drove 500 miles to get, we approached with a movie reference to break the ice (since Papillons look like Mogwais and if you spill water on mogwais they multiply) we told her we spilled water on Belle and then stuck Lito in her arms. And then we had 2. :3

One thing I know in life... Don't ask, because you could get a no and then if you do it you're an ass. Just do it, cos nobody actually said you couldn't.

The allergen responsible for allergic reactions between cats and humans is the FEL D-1 allergen. It's a protein produced by the salivary glands (so the cat licks it's fur and it's transmitted that way). It's actually found the most in black/dark unaltered male cats, and least in altered white female cats. Siberian cats have the least amount of FEL D-1. But your best bet if you're visiting the pound and are looking for a cat if you have allergies look for a white/light colored female.

Also my boyfriend was really allergic to our altered grey male (I would assume his FEL D 1 was pretty high), but after about 3 months of constant contact (in the same room) he's not allergic anymore.

Most people with kitty allergies do get used to their own cat when they have one. It's a pretty neat thing! You have no excuses not to get a kitty, trip. :D

I'm a pretty firm believer that you get immune to your cats allergies. Gradual introduction over the past 3 months has worked well for us. The FEL D-1 allergen is really small and gets airborne quick so even if you don't have direct contact with a cat if it's in a room the allergen is in the room and it attaches to all soft surfaces.

I mean if you're the type of person who's throat swells anaphylactic shock style from cat allergies I don't think you're a candidate but if it's moderate symptoms (like my BFs asthma would get worse and he'd use his inhaler more often because of the cat--he doesn't anymore), or if it's itchy eyes, stuffy nose kind of allergies I believe you can get immune.

The only reason we knew he wasn't allergic to all cats was because our roommate at one time had a light colored female cat that he had no allergy symptoms to. So I knew it was possible for us to have a cat it just mattered the kind. Which I ended up getting one that he was allergic to anyways but he became immune to the allergies.

I think most people with light/moderate allergies if you an solider through the first couple months you can become immune to your own cat. I read that with other cats you will still have the allergic reaction to though. Like spork said, It's just you become immune to your own cat.

Also if your allergy symptoms flair up don't push it, just put the cat in another room and try again when they calm down. We didn't push it, when my BF started feeling uncomfortable we removed our cat from the room for the day. Worked out well .

Nah mate it's a cow skin. I'm in Australia, we don't have bears here It is an awesome rug though! It's my boyfriend's.

I believe it is actually JUST the FEL D-1 in the saliva that is the allergen, not even the fur and dander at all. It's just the fact that the saliva is stuck on the fur/dander, therefore it's the medium which transports the allergen, rather than the fur being allergic at all. Know what I mean?

Not yet but I have considered it. Something tells me they wouldn't really care. If you let your cat out to roam the streets every evening in a crowded neighbourhood, you'd kinda have to assume it's going to enter other people's yards, right? :D

Yep! I used to be painfully allergic to cats, until I worked in a pet shop, then worked in a vet clinic, and had 3-4 pet cats at any time. Now however, I haven't been exposed to cats much for at least 18 months, so I'd probably have an allergic reaction again if I lived with one. But in my experience it only takes a few months to build up a tolerance to the allergen.

Nah unfortunately she is just a pretty moggy/domestic short hair If I had a Bengal, I would not let it out of the house ever!! :D Whereas this kitty roams the streets most evenings.
