Tattoo FAQ - please make separate threads for image ideas

No one could tell you except the artist you want, i'm sure prices vary everywhere you go and how they do it as well.

^Exactly, they'd know best.

I had a tattoo done that sounds very similar to what you're inquiring about. I also had the outline done in one sitting and the color done in a different sitting, though they were only done a week apart. It ended up just being one price for the whole thing for me, but this all depends on the shop you're going to.

Come to NE PA my girl will do it for free scouts honer.

Stop in a reputable shop though for sure if you cant come out, but if you can:

Wait.

Peace and Love my friend...

An unusual tattoo question

To anyone who has a decent-sized tattoo, say, 15cm diameter/squared or larger:

Do you ever find that the areas of skin with ink in raise up? Almost like an allergic reaction?

I have one large tattoo, it's about 30cm long and 10cm wide. I also have 3 smaller tattoos and this never happens to those ones. But the larger one occasionally raises up, like a mosquito bite, but all over. And it's JUST the areas with ink in the skin.

The first few times it happened it was in summer and a mosquito had actually bitten me on the inked skin. So I assume that because the skin layers had recently been aggrevated by the process of tattooing, and hence were probably a bit "mushed-up" so to speak, that the histamine released due to the mozzie bite travelled all through the tattoo...thus making it all raised.

But tonight it's happened again and there are no mozzies or other biting insects around.

The tattoo was VERY well done, very clean, have never had any problems with infection or anything remotely like that. It never gets itchy when it raises up, but it's just odd!

Anyone experience something similar to this?

commonly, and my tats are pretty old now. this happens to all of my tats are various times, regardless of size. it's pretty funky and i pay it no mind.

Awesome, thanks for your response :)

Yeah I wasn't too concerned, I knew nothing bad was going on, I just find it bizarre!

And yes it is really funky when it happens, it's like my skin is embossed hehe. I love it! ...especially now that I know it happens to other people too.

My boyfriend gets the same thing - he's got a big one on his forearm and it gets raised and bumpy, and occasionally slightly itchy from time to time.

No big deal, apparently, just annoying!

A pic, just cos it turns me on :D

nice!

i was briefly tempted to get the om mane padme hum as a band after visiting nepal a few years back. namaste!

Yeah, I have one across my lower back and the parts of skin with ink in them are raised up. You can feel it when you run fingers across my back, and I've had the tattoo for about a year. I have two other ones, one is almost four years old and one a few months but neither of them do that. They are smaller though too. =o Never thought about it. But I do find it extremely odd that I can feel my tattoo haha.

It's all scar tissue.

I have a tattoo or two and I get the same thing. Particularly the ones on my shoulder/arm and lower back.

I also have operation scars that do the same thing from time.

I have one on my upper back that gets itchy at times but I never really know if it's raised or not as I can't really see it heh. *wishes for an owl neck ;)* (on second thought, maybe not. that would be kind of creepy)

I've had mine for 8 years now and it seems like the itchiness doesn't happen nearly as often as it did after the first few years or so...

be glad you didn't - every person you meet wants to know what it translates to, and when you say "well, it's not words exactly, more like syllables. it's a Tibetan Buddhist mantra. Kinda like prayer wheels" they do the "oh... ok... yeah i don't get it" thing.

be annoyed you didn't
- he was hot prior, but is apparently irresistible now. it's embarrassing how much he gets hit on, even with me on his arm! you'd have been in. all. the. time.

it's really cool seeing random people on the train staring at it and smiling in that knowing way, where you know they know what it means and why it's there :D

Here is my afforementioned tattoo:

Kinda relieving to know that other people have this problem too!! My tattoo on my leg does this all the time! It'll burn like its on fire for a moment, then it puffs up. It only usually does it around the pink ink so I was thinking maybe I was either allergic to that specific hue or maybe (hopefully not!) there's lead in the ink?

Still I'd like to know medically what's going on & why it does this. There's a reason why our bodies do this....
