The real way to get anything accomplished is to go to your local friendly tattoo guy, not the dirty biker one but the artist one whos prepetually on speed, and ask him to help you with it... of course you're going to need SOME idea of what you want, but this is what my friends have done and it works well
he was asking becuase i set him up with that local guy and he (MDMARI) chickened out at last minute ;[

How does one find a reputable tattoo parlour in a foreign country?

So I decided I'm definitely getting a tattoo while I'm here since its so cheap. Problem is I don't know where to go or who to ask, and this is especially important in a country with record-breaking HIV rates :\

I got my belly button pierced in Prague. I was kind of nervous about getting it done in a foreign country but I ended up finding a place in a touristy part of the city and everyone that worked there spoke English. The guy that pierced me was from Chicago and living in Prague.

I'd probably check out a tourist area, but if you want to feel 100% safe just wait until you get home.

Make sure they have a license of some kind, all good tattoo parlours have a license.

I got my tattoo in Munich, Germany and there was a sticker on the door saying "Certified Tattoo Parlour" with all the details.

You can't put a price on your health.

HepC or HIV will cost you much more than the going Canadian rate for a tat.

^exactly my point.

I know this sentiment is useless with you Jammy, but don't fuck around. ;)

If something is going to be on you forever.... go someplace thats safe, has a good reputation from people you know. It's worth the extra money.

HIV and Hep C are not a risk if you go to a good shop. Just because you are in Thailand doesn't mean you can't get get good work done, those who say different obviously have no clue what they are talking about. I know a few good artists around. One is in Chiang Khong, near the northern border with Laos. Another down on Koh Tao, a guy named Tu who uses bamboo or a gun. I also know a frenchman down south doing good work also. If you want the infos, send me an sms.
They are clean and safe, all gear is sterile.

Once you have an idea of what you want you could visit each tattoo studio you come across.

Ash to look at their portfolio's of work done, have a chat and look for sharps disposal and gloves, antiseptic and signs of professionalism.

Try and find this way an artist whose work fits into the style or flow of what you might want done.

I have been in London for over three years and it took me two and a half of looking round studio's before I found someplace that fitted right. Of course you could get it done by some idiot/novice in a tacky parlour but best not:)

Tattoo Artists: Good Quality, Inexpensive Gun for a Beginner?

Hey peeps, my man is lookin into buyin a tattoo gun, hes also gonna get the "almost skin" product to practice on, so dont worry about the "its gonna be a mess make sure that u dont let people who never used a tatt gun before practice on you" warnings n all that lol.

Anyways, he got a budget of a little under $300, so I was wonderin if any of the peeps here experienced in body art could recommend a good quality gun that would be a good intro to tattooing for a beginner, easy to handle , somethin decent to start on.

when you just start playin guitar you dont go n get a gibson or watever, when you start airbrushin you dont get a double action iwata ya dig? He dont need no fancy super duper high end professionals-only top of the line shit here, just a nice solid gun that will be good quality and suitable for someone whose just learnin how to handle the whole thing.

He will be orderin it on the internet he is puttin the money on his debit card so he can order it so feel free to link to sites, etc. Any tips would b appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance homies. 2 c buoyant, im lookin at chu!! Get your woman on here right now and tell me wats wat! ;) JK

my mate bought a $200 kit off ebay a few weeks ago.. i have used it a few times and it works fine for a beginner.

it comes with some fake skin to practice on, along with different needles and a range of inks.

i would say hit ebay up.
