Bupe Subutex Has Gone Generic

Roxane isn't shipping it again, my Walgreens told me that they CANNOT order it until the end of May, it's on backorder. Anyone have the contact info for Roxane? I'm getting REALLY REALLY fed up with this shit, like I'm sure others are too. I'm so frustrated at this point, it makes me pissed that my doctor ever switched me in the first place. I'm going to go try and find some contact info for them online, this is ridiculous & I have no idea if I should even believe Walgreens when they tell me the end of May? They told me the third week of March originally and that was obviously a bullshit lie as well.

Maybe try other pharmacies? Have you done that?

Check you Wal-Mart pharmacy if you have one near. Dirt cheap for all types of medication compared to other ones (Walgreens, CVS).

also try pharmacies (apothacaries or w/e) in hospitals, they carry mostly everything. i get millions filled at one and they have never not had what i needed.

Hi, yes I checked wal-mart (one regular walmart & one super walmart), they told me that the generic was unavailable, and they wanted a ridiculous amount of $$ for the brand subutex, I tried CVS and they told me that their system wouldn't allow them to order it either. The only reason why I've stuck with Walgreens is because I have their discount card and it was actually knocking about $40 off the price of the generics, when they were able to order them for me. Sooo.. I guess I'll just have to wait & see what happens?

I did read today somewhere that Teva has made a generic subutex, there was an NDC# for it and everything already and the marketing was said to have started on May 10th. I also read another company.. I want to say Barr? was also said to have a generic that was approved by the FDA in this past week. So I'm really hoping one of them will decide to ship to a pharmacy in California soon :P

Thanks for the ideas everyone, I seriously have tried anything and everything I can think of. I also left a message at Roxane today with the contact info. I found online, should be interesting to see if I hear back from them. I really wouldn't have been driving 150 miles round trip for the last 3 months to a pharmacy if I didn't absolutely have to, it's getting old... but I guess it's worth it, since it really is 1/2 the cost.

well at least when you find some you will be able to have it..
my dr wont switch me over because he believes in the whole naloxone is a blocker thing, so getting rid of it would allow me to use other opiates and they only give it to pregnant girls, i wanted to tell him whats up (about bupe affinity NOT naloxones) but i just nodded my head and said oh,, cuz one thing you dont wanna do unless you have a new one to go to is: dont tell them they are wrong and dont act like you're smarter than your doctor,no matter how wrong they are.

oh geez, so sorry, if there's one thing that irks me the most it's uneducated doctors. I have no idea why all of these doctors can't understand that the naloxone is in the Suboxone as a DETERRENT for IV drug users. It is stated so simply and clearly SO many places online. I 100% agree about never trying to outsmart the doctor, I was honestly shocked my doctor prescribed me Subutex and I didn't have to explain to him about the naloxone. I just let him believe that the blocker is in the naloxone and let him 'trust' me as he likes to call it :)

another thing tho.. the naloxone isnt even active if IV'd the buprenorphine has a higher affinity to the receptors than naloxone so it out competes it everytime so whether you shoot up a suboxone or subutex your going to get the same almost exact effects, and they both cause precip w/d's in people on full agonists.. oh well some dr's just dont get it. the drug company tells them its abuse proof so they believe them.

Great point, I know I'd read 100 times over that the naloxone wasn't active even if IV'd, since the amount isn't enough anyway from I understand? The whole thing is ridiculous, and you're absolutely right. The docs will believe ANYTHING the pharm. companies tell them. I've felt for so long that I know more than my doctor and it irks me BAD to say the least, but I don't dare say anything to him about any of it. lol

This is the link that I found about Teva generic Subutex if anyone is interested, then also read somewhere that Barr is in the process of making their generic as well. The Teva brand is going to be oval like the brand Sub, hopefully it will dissolve quicker as well. Looks like brighter days ahead, even if I'm having trouble getting now I would assume that it will be widely available sometime this year :D

Roxane, which released the generic Buprenorphine got sued by Reckitt Benckiser. Their "backorder" is a judge's order to remove the product until the case is resolved. Teva and Barr may be synthesizing their own formula, but they won't be available until Reckitt loses. Almost all pharmaceutical companies will sue, knowing they won't win. However, it does buy them a few more months beyond the patent's expiration to sell their product and pocket some extra money.

I am reading this correctly? Are you saying ALL the generic subutex is being held up due to a lawsuit by R & B?

I straight up told my doc what I knew about Suboxone. He leaned back and basically said "touche." He still wouldn't give me any generic Subutex though. :(

okay, I'm confused now, if R&B has a lawsuit against Roxane, then why wouldn't Teva be able to ship their generic to pharmacies once it's ready? From what I understood, it's made, ready, and they were starting the marketing on May 10th 2010? Ugh, I guess I just need to be prepared to be broke for the next few months & thankfully I've now tapered down to 4mg. MUCH better than the 16mg I was at a couple months ago, looks like down to 2mg is my best bet now. :!

I believe if R&B is currently in a legal battle fighting for an extension to their patent than companies that would otherwise supply generics would not be allowed to sell them until the suit is settled. It's a move by R&B to milk a couple more months out of the patent. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

^^ Precisely. I misstated that Roxane is being sued. R&B is fighting to extend its patent. This is considered standard procedure for most pharmaceutical companies. The patent holders eventually lose but they milk out a handsome amount of money after their patent expires. I got this information from someone close to legal matters involving these companies. However, when I called Roxane, I got the run-around from customer service reps. They've been telling me that it is on back-order since early February. R&B would request a Judge's order to prevent the sale of generics until the case is resolved, which is customarily granted. Most, if not all holders of these patents eventually lose. They will attempt to stall and drag out the proceedings as long as possible, to make as much money as they can. When it's all said and done, Teva, Roxane and whoever else will be able to sell the generics. Usually a generic doesn't make it to market until these lawsuits are resolved. For some reason Roxane got theirs out, anticipating the patent's expiration. I got lucky and filled a 3-month script in January, but I've had to switch back to brand-name. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Makes unfortunate and perfect sense, thank you. lol I guess I got really lucky too as far as obtaining the generics from pharmacies when they shouldn't have been obtainable in the first place. Hopefully the R&B monopoly will realize they can't win, fingers crossed! I keep telling my husband not to worry and eventually this won't be an issue sometime in the future, and I guess that really is the only answer right now. Thanks guys for the answers/help :)

OMG LOL, I had a HORRIBLE experience w/ peeing for the drug test at my last appt. It was the annual drug test, which is fine, but I really wish they would have told me about it BEFORE I went to go use the restroom at the office as soon as I arrived. I swear I had to sit in there for at least an hour, to wait... and wait... and wait some more until I could finally push out literally 5 drops of piss for the stupid test. It was one of the most embarrassing experiences ever... I kept drinking water, TONS, and sitting there with my cup, in and out of the bathroom. I have no idea what the ladies at the desk must have been saying about me, but damn it was embarrassing & of course it also sent me into a horrible panic attack because I felt like such an ass. 8(
