Suboxone, is this right for me?

Ok, back from my bupe appointment. Long story short, the guy likes to hear himself talk! Damn fucker wasn't much help at all. After I told him I wasn't going to go on bupe (no problems there) he refused to prescribe any Valium because it 'clashed with his morals'. He then went in to suggest that maybe I should go see my GP for some. WTF? Useless!

So, I've made an appointment to see my GP (who is a real nice guy) who will no doubt hook me up with something to stop me grinding my teeth and tensing up.

And there's this, I asked the bupe doc what he dose hypothetically was intending on putting me on and he said 8mg!! He then went on to say that he's quite happy to prescribe up to 32mg for 'people that feel they need it'. So basically, I could have asked for 32mg and been given it! Woah. That sounds way dangerous to me.

So here we are, 40 hours in and other than backache, neckache, and an awful headache, it's all good. Tonight will be telling.

Whoa WTF? 8o Oh well, I hope you have better luck with your GP. Of course I'd be wary of asking for valium straight up without explaining your situation first but I'm sure you know that. You're doing well so far, be sure to keep us posted :)

Quick question, would seroquel xr be helpful in my current situation? I mean, would they possibly help me to relax? I have 6 x 50mg pills leftover from a bit of a mental breakdown a few months back. Not even real sure what they are, didn't finish the pack.

^ would definitely help with insomnia; even 25mg should make a difference. If you do end up getting something like valium or temazepam I wouldn't take the seroquel at the same time as them though. How did you find a 50mg dose affected you? I probably wouldn't take 50mg if you have a GP appointment first thing in the morning and don't want to be groggy & sedated for it.

Seroquel is basically an antipsychotic most often prescribed for schizeffective disorders, bi-polar etc but is also strongly sedating.

I was prescribed 50mg seroquel twice a day and didn't finish the pack cos I couldn't really see what they were doing. GP also prescribed me 25 x 5mg Valium at the same time, now THOSE I felt.

^ wow that's odd. Perhaps it's because the seroquel were XR? I would have thought it'd blow 5mg valium out of the water for knocking you out. Glad you have an understanding GP, hopefully your appointment tomorrow goes well :)

^ yeh in my opinion you'd be best of halving the remaining pills and taking 25mg doses if using it for insomnia. I'm no doctor but I'm sure many people with experience with seroquel here would agree :)

Anyway if you can't sleep you could always browse bluelight until you can't keep your eyes open any longer? =D

holy shit! 8mg for twice dosing of 100mg codeine a day is definitely overkill. you would have been doing yourself a disservice by heightening your tolerance and being dependent on that high of a dose of bupe before deciding to taper. in fact it's rather alarming that he was initially going to dose you so high straight away - sounds like overdose puking your guts up everywhere time.

as you opted not to start the program it makes sense to me that he'd rather you see your GP for a valium script. it would be a matter of covering his own ass as well.

good luck and congrats on making the first night!

Most bupe and methdone doctors are all about the high dose, So easy to up your dose from those docs and they it seems some of them don't give a second thought to how long it is going to take you to get off, (most just assume you will be there for the next 10/20years)

I think a lot of them either have incentives to prescribe more, or have the view that your a bad junkie and would be better on a program then out using gear and stealing/dealing/prostituting, as they have you tied to them.

Glad you decided to go with the GP on this one cornflakes, Keep Strong, and you'll be clean in no time!

Peace

That's a really strange reaction. 20mg Seroquel has me out cold.

Holy crap! 8mg for 200mg of codeine 8o - I've seen 8mg hold a heavy heroin user very nicely....so yeah, that's overkill.

A friend of mine had a moderate codeine habit of about 400mg a day and and one of my 0.4mg subutex snorted worked great for him...he even said he felt good and got more done at work than he ever had.

Holy crap BLISS, went to bed at 9.30 and have practically SLEPT THROUGH (6.30am now). That has never happened before! Yep, very sweaty but that's no biggie.

What a trooper! When I start getting the sweats I usually panic :\ good work on keeping a cool head.

Righto, this is confusing me. After the seroquel knocked me out at about 6pm I have yet again fairly much slept through to 6.30am. WTF? I don't sleep like this even when I DO use codeine. I have my GP appointment at 9am, was gonna ask for some Valium but to tell the truth, I don't think I need them.

Now I'm starting to feel really, really silly. This has all been in my friggin head! I truly believe that researching on my own and joining this forum has made all the difference. Thanks so much guys!

Soooooo glad I didn't start bupe. Dodged a bullet there. Actaully feeling a bit angry, that dr would have happily seen my tolerance raised sky high!

^ really glad to hear that. Fantastic that you've had a couple of nights of decent sleep :) I'd still consider valium/temazepam for a week or two (short term only) rather than relying on seroquel. You honestly don't want to mess with antipsychotics unless absolutely necessary.

What are your diet and lifestyle like? Do you exercise much?

Exercise? What's that? lols... Nah, I'm a very 'sedentary' type of person, probably because of my pot smoking. However when I'm at work, well, different matter. I shoot news camera for the state's news service (I love my job - squee!!) and lugging the camera and tripod certainly does leave me tired of an evening. I don't eat much, even when my stomach rumbles and I feel hungry I still don't feel like EATING, if you get my drift. I recently lost around 25 kilos, which has brought me down to a healthy weight. However I've 'bottomed out' and don't seem to be losing anymore.

Guys, this has been way too easy... Should I expect to get clobbered soon? Oh man I'm feeling really DUMB for leaving it this long. And I'm feeling a tad embarrassed about thinking I needed maintenance! Boy, I was WAY off...

Just about to see GP. Will still ask for Valium. He's good like that.

^ haha no, you're what three or four days in? I'd say it'll only get easier from here. Chin up lass :D

Yeh I only asked about the diet and exercise because they're realtively easy to tweak and make improvements on and can have an absolutely enormous effect on your mental health. If you're quitting codeine it might be a good time for a lifestyle change too; will make it easier to stay clean and not look back. Check out some threads in the healthy living forum. Congratulations on the weight loss too.

Ok, my GP was thrilled to say the least, we both agreed I don't NEED Valium but he prescribed 25 tabs anyway. The weird thing is, if I keep on sleeping ok, I'm gonna be fine-o. I don't even have a desire to take any codeine. At all.

So, this is day three. I won't say "I've done it!" quite yet, but I can't really see it getting any worse from here.

Man, I am such a drama queen. Thanks for taking the time to help me guys even though I am a small-time user. So very much appreciated the advice to NOT go on bupe. Saved my bacon.

Mmm... bacon...

And I've finally found the motivation to start editing my sisters wedding video... which was almost two years ago. Won't she be happy!!
