Suboxone, is this right for me?

^ aahhhh the ol' tolerance question. If you've been taking it daily for 7 years I'd say it will take a long time for your tolerance to drop. You could go and research receptor desensitisation, down-regulation etc, or just not worry about it as thinking about codeine will lead you back to wanting to take more. You're going to stay clean right? :)

The weird thing is that I just don't feel any urge to go get some. If I sleep again tonight, well, I'd say it's all over red rover, I just can't see a reason to use again.

But I was just thinking about that tolerance thing with regards to medical help - say I was in a car crash and needed pain relief, I assume they'd give some opiate for that and my fear is it wouldn't be enough. (I do an awful lot of highway driving during my work, car accidents are always in the back of my mind. Geez, I've bloody filmed enough of 'em!)

^ if it was a serious accident you'd get something much stronger and your codeine tolerance won't make much difference. You'll only run into trouble if you need low-mid range pain relief in the short term and are just seeing a GP for it; many GP's are wary of prescribing anything stronger than panadeine forte unless it's really warranted.

Nothing to worry about ;) for strong pain relief they'd give you an effective dose for what your level of tolerance will be. You'd probably find your tolerance would grow much more rapidly than normal if you had to be on pain relief for long periods of time. Nothing that couldn't be sorted out though.

If you had gone for bupe - it'd be much different. It blocks other opiates from working which can make things really tricky. If you're on 8mg of bupe that would probably block for up to 72 hours and keep opiates from working fully for even longer. Read some horror stories regarding this in different studies. I always keep a special card in my wallet that says I'm on Bupe and my current dose for this reason.

You're doing heaps well. Should definitely only get better from here on out.

I won't be recommending bupe to people in the future without suggesting they try doing it cold turkey first.

With the Valium just make sure you save it as much as you can. Sleeping will be a bit more harder than usual when you get off the seroquel, and if you run out of pot + are still recovering from WD it can be almost impossible.

After the WD is over you'll find family/friends notice a difference in you...even though 200mg wasn't much it would have still been causing subtle changes in your mood/personality/motivation etc. :)

Yes I am very curious to see how my body and mind improve. That's if I haven't hurt my organs too bad!

I notice peole saying "it's going to get alot worse going IN" and then saying (as you yourself just did) that "it's going to get alot better from here on OUT". Nice subtle difference at looking at it.

Can't get this stupid happy grin off my face... lols...

Hows this for more weirdness, it's 6:30pm. My 'usual dosing time' and my body is suddenly saying "yes please" (even though i still dont desire it... Well, thats not the entire truth, eating a handful of pills right now is something I've done for so long it would just be normal to have some now)...That's psychological if it's anything...

Oh, yeah, and what about paracetamol in the future? I was taking lots of it, 10 gram at a time. Surprisingly my liver and kidneys seem to be fine. Can I use recommended doses of paracetamol for my headaches?

^You probably can, but with that sort of history you would be better off using only when you really feel you need to. The dangers really only kick in heavily once you've binged on paracetemol for a decent time.

Generally, Paracetemol isn't too bad, but it is a little toxic. If you keep the doses to under 1g per 24 hours you should be fine.

My father who has liver disease from years of drinking (something like 30% normal liver finction form memory) is still allowed to take up to 1g of paracetemol a day, and that is coming from a pretty cautios doctor.

^ You could try aspirin or ibuprofen instead for headaches and minor pains; I get back pain that sometimes is quite painful and I definitely prefer the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, celecoxib etc...) over paracetamol for pain relief. Of course codeine works a lot better but I keep that to once a week now.

Congratulations on your progress so far! You've done really well. Don't let that valium replace the codeine, but it sounds like you have a really good mind set and are going to be successful with staying clean. :)

Yeah this is definitely the beginning of the end. Haven't used any Valium yet, still no urge to take codeine.

As for ibuprofen and aspirin well they hurt my stomach, they always have. So I'll stick with paracetamol.

^ good to hear, I hope everything is still going well for you :)

LOLS!!

Well here I am into day eight and I must admit, there's these little thoughts creeping into my head that say "Just one packet won't hurt, you could just use a few to ensure sleep"...

I'm sticking my fingers in my ears and yelling "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!"

I hope it keeps working. I didn't sleep well last night, and sleep is all I've ever wanted. But I aint gonna quit now. I'm not going back.

^ stay strong, it's really not worth it and codeine isn't that amazing at helping you sleep anyway. I know I sleep better in general and feel a lot more energetic throughout the day when I haven't had any (or any alcohol) for a while. Maybe check out this thread for healthier alternatives?

insomnia help

i've worked in a drug+alcohol rehab in the past (ironic, i know) and i never saw anyone on any suboxone or ativan tapers for very long. 18-24 months seems like overkill, even though your tolerance is up you could definitely get weaned off a lot faster. just be very careful with the suboxone....

^ It's a bit late now, he has already gone cold turkey. :)

cornflakes: I know how tempting it is, but don't give in comrade! If you really need something for sleep, you could try something like doxylamine (Restavit, Dozile) temporarily and make lifestyle changes for a longer term plan. Definitely check out that link belarki posted. :)
