Bupe Suboxone/Buprenorphine FAQ & Megathread v3; 2010 - 2022

just an unrelated followup to my use of the Butrans 20mcg/hr transdermal 7-day patch:

abandoned ship after 6 days. the 20mcg/hr just wasn't enough to have the analgesic effect i needed. it was virtually immediately effective in relieving some strangely serious Nucynta withdrawal effects I was experiencing.

I switched back to the sublingual Suboxone strips. Only change was that my Dr upped my dosage rather abruptly to one 8mg strip 4x/day for a total of 32mg of Suboxone daily- which i believe is also considered to be the ceiling dose.

still 32mg of suboxone a day... i need this drug for medium term (couple of months) pain relief, not for addiction treatment. will I not build a tolerance? or does suboxone resist that?

i guess i could always throw a couple of nucynta on top of all that for the most euphoria-free mega-high anyone has ever not felt.

sad, kinda.

What was your strip dosage before? 32mg is exceedingly high.

I was using Suboxone for pain relief (extreme, excruciating pain) - I was using buprenorphine IV'd, but I was only requiring 0.2mg or 200 mcg every 3-4 hours, and it wasn't doing a whole lot other than making life bearable for the time being.

^^^ Ok well 32mg of sub is a way too much for pain relief, the anagelsia from sub usually lasts about 6-8hrs max... Its normal for people seeking pain relief to be on about 16mgs a day... I would say dose about ever 6-8hrs for pain... at higher doses though the antagonist properties of bupe kick in and could actually hurt pain relief ( what my dr told me??)

Bupe is good for pain relief in my opinion..I think people confuse euphoria with pain relief/analgeisa...

Bupe is about 50x stronger than morphine anagelsia...

It was originally marketed in 1981 for moderate to severe pain...

and yes tolerance probably builds like most opiates but tolerance with Buprenoprhine is definetly "strange" nonetheless in my opinion...

I I'ved 1mg strip the other day and holy shit i was surprised how freakin strong it was... I kicked in after about 15 mins strong and lasted REAL strong a good 4-5 hrs..

my only other experience prior to this was one "test" dosage of an 8mg strip, administered in three doses: first, a teensy tiny piece to test for allergic response; second, a larger piece about a quarter of a strip to test for tolerance and side effects; and the third, the rest of the strip. i took it like a champ.

prior to that i was on nucynta for a week or so.

prior to that i was on a ton of Oxycontin (legitimately) with a suuuuuuuper slow taper so that the taper from 40mg 2x/day down to nothing took months, and anything below that dose didn't touch the tolerance and there was no effective analgesia.

so, i'm not an extremely experienced user of higher potency opiates in general but have been on some substantial amounts of opiates recently post-traumatically.

i know what kind of pain it takes 160mg of oxycontin and 6 norcos all at once to relieve and still be lucid. but i don't know what to expect from 32mg of suboxone.

^^ Honestly man 32 is way too much... Try taking 4mg for pain every 6-8 hrs... then see if you notice any diffference at all from taking 8mg...

I also believe the reason people who take Sub everyday dont claim to get "high" is because of how long the half-life is and how much sub is build up in their body they are constantly being stimulated by opiates so to them they feel "normal"... and that is what makes sub much better than say Oxy or short acting opiates for long term use/maintenance...

Taking 1mg a day once is totally different for someone who has been taking 1mg a day for 4 weeks straight...

So ive been on suboxone for about 4 5 days now....

im wondering.. is it normal to still get chills and goosebumbs n whatnot still after this long on bupe?

or should i take more bupe and will that make it stop? or nomatter what dose im still gunna get chills for a while. ?

do they go away after a usual amount of time?

im on between 4 mgs to 6mgs a day dosed in 2mg doses 2 or 3 times a day...

Thanks

^^^^ Um no you definetly shouldn't be getting that after 4 or 5 days.. dude.. You might be getting like sick or something... your dose should be plenty ... Very strange...

YOu should have no withdrawals and be feeling good...

I have had lingering withdrawal effects on Suboxone for a long time. I was so sensitive to heroin that when I went on Suboxone I went through a long PAWS period where I wasn't feeling good from Suboxone. After that time passed, it worked a lot better.

Maybe you're dosing irregularly? I felt weird a week into it but eventually things normalized. I try to stick to the same schedule every day.

Yea I have been dosing somewhat irregularly...
But even at about an hour or two after I dose I still get chills...

They have faded slightly from how bad they were the first day or two after the switch.
But there definatly still noticeable...:/

I don't think I'm in withdrawal at all... I can eat dnt have anxiety or any other WD symptoms...

???

^I had a transition phase which included discomfort and peculiar and minor wds when I went from H to bupe, and this lasted about 2 weeks, after which I fell in love with bupe and had my honeymoon phase with it, which lasted another 2 weeks or so, and then I started tapering down, and then I sort of lost myself in a haze of self-medicated opiate/benzo rotation, and now I am suffering the consequences, trying to stabilize on bupe once again. All I can say is that the transition isn't as easy as the Doc's make it seem, and it can take anywhere from 3 days to a few weeks or maybe even months depending on the length and amount of opiates used prior to bupe induction, to get 'well.'

Since I have rotated some opiates and added benzos to the equation, stabilizing on bupe has been a rough ride, so I would recommend that you stay on bupe, and don't let yourself get strung out by the minor wds. Just remember how mild they are now, compared to full-blown wds, and commit to the bupe, taper down, and jump if possible. But it is very common that there are these wierd effects upon swithcing to and from bupe, due to it's partial-antagonistic effects. It's a wonder drug, that really has me wondering.

I am curious about how long this long PAWS was. I have been on bupe for close to 50 days and have had some crazy bad cravings the past few days. I have been dealing with them by doing bupe as soon as I get up-that way it's senseless to do opiates. Don't know how long this will work though. PAWS blows!

It probably lasted about a whole year for me although it didn't last forever. Eventually I felt back to my old self again. :D

when i get intense cravings i dose more BUPE and it takes them away instantly...

dont forget Bupe is an opiate

just got done with a true 5 day binge on dope
felt the highs and lows, experienced true dope sickness for the first time in a year or so
felt bad this morning and shot up like 2mg of bupe
baaaaaad idea
it's been about 45 minutes and although I feel a lot better, PW is so fucking terrible

So basically i kinda fucked up and started taking mvre than i was prescribged and ran out of suboxone to early, i have about 2mg left and i usually take 4-6mg a day and my next sub appointment is another 4 days away...

So naturally i went out and scored 1 opana to hold me over. This morning i did a small .5mg suboxone. Basically if i take .5mg a day for the next 3-4 days will i start to withdrawal?

and if i took .5mg at around 7am this morning and ive been taking 4-5mg a day for the pst 3 months or so how long should i wait b4 i could feel this 20mg opana?

thanks for help.

I personally don't understand how anyone can take 16mg bupe... much less 32 mg without some serious side effects. At least that's how it works for me. Right from the start i knew I was either going to need to get down to a low dose or go back to methadone. I absolutely can't take a crap without a whole lot of water, fruits, beans, onions, and about 750mg of docusate and some senna. BTW a can of Navy beans, mixed with garlic, onions, and ham chunks cooked for about 3 hrs don't taste bad... In fact when I add some hot sauce... it's pretty decent. Just season to taste and cook long.

Thats on 8mg's plus. But on 1mg it's much easier to stay regular and you eat healthier too. Never ever had that problem on yrs of MMT. sex is another bad side effect for me on bupe vs methadone. Just saying... that me.

Man I have been doing FUCKING OUTSTANDING on bupe.

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY I can wake up and do all the shit I need. This last week I couldn't possibly explain how much better my life has already got on this medicine. I'm stable, working, doing exactly what i need and enjoying it.

Its pretty amazing that my family becomes more suspect of my behavoir when I'm doing good now. Its really weird. But I've been waking up 7am every morning, working 12 hour days between my internship and side work, and I think just due to how long I've been inactive and bouncing back and forth between wds, anytime I do good now they're like "wtf is wrong with him".

I'm just hoping I can keep this pace up and I honestly have no craving do anything but take my sub and get my life together.

Is there anyway to stop your eyes from dialating so much on bupe though? I mean when I take 2-4mg my eyes usually turn the size of needles. And honestly it makes me turn my face away from people when I'm talking to them. People definitely notice shit like that a lot more than you would think. I caught my internship director locking in on my pupils, and I turned my head so quickly she didn't say anything. And you might ask "how do you know she was even looking at them"? Its because people will look at your face in a casual way, and will glance back and forth like in a normal conversation. But when they notice your pupils it seems they will stare directly at your eyes, and not flinch for 3-4 seconds. Its like a weird "lock in" they do on the center of your eyes.

I feel like everyones staring at them now and I wish there was a way to "undialate" your pupils.

There is a way to cause your pupils to increase in size. However it's not really worth it; I would just decrease your buprenorphine dosage, and the miosis should be reduced somewhat. :)

I'm glad to hear it's working great for you! Congratulations. %)
