Still feeling DXM effects after 10 days

To begin, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum. I'm not a regular visitor and I'm not sure what the best place to post this is. So, let me go down the info:

I had 165mg of DXM from Sucrets on the 10th of February. The low dosage was to test the waters and see how I react. This was extracted improperly (but I didn't know that.) It's possible the dose was actually significantly less. Felt first plateau effects, gone by the next day, all is well.

On the 16th (about a week later, the recommended wait after a first plateau experience) I had 100ml of syrup, which contained 300mg of DXM. A few hours later I had another 50ml, for a total of 450mg. I had it on a very full stomach with heaps of caffeine. This was much more intense but not extremely disassociative, just sort of lazy and body high. I would say it was a second plateau experience, but it may have been third without disassociative effects from DXO (see below.)

Now, about 4 and a half days later, I still feel (vaguely) dissociated and dreamlike, minor headache, somewhat dilated pupils (that are reactive to light) and shadowy visuals. I think that the visuals may be caused by the pupil dilation, but they persist in the dark. None of the symptoms have got noticeably better or worse since the experience.

After 3 days I went to a doctor and they told me to wait it out, which didn't help ease my mind. I think that a CYP2D6 deficiency may be my problem, and I didn't detect it because I thought I had a normal reaction to 165mg, when it may have been an exaggerated reaction to 50mg (hypothetically - I now don't know how much the first dose was.)

Does CYP2D6 deficiency explain everything? It's my prime suspect, but I'm having panic attacks thinking that it may be something worse. What's the recommendation?

Caffeine will affect you atm,
i ate this massive bar of dark chocolate approx 5 days after doing 800mg DXM (first time) and i went to park and was euphoric/retarded and playing on swings Loooooool

Ive done lots of disassociatives, ketamine, DXM, MXE , as for the pupil dialialation thats me most of the time now, one of my mates recently thought i was buzzing on mdma round he's lol

if you stay away from them you'll go back to 'normal' soon ;)

I had a lot of caffeine the day of and maybe for a few days after, but not in the past 2 days.

Yeah haha, that sounds right, but should it persist this long?

Here's hoping. :)

You'll be fine, longest lingering dissociation from any dissociative experience I've had was like, 4 days. This is longer yes, but it's not unprecedented. Try to avoid psychoactives for the time being, since they can exacerbate your symptoms (some us consider that a desirable thing, but since it bothers you, avoid it).

The anxiety this is causing you is more likely to bring about lasting psychological issues than the drug, and it's lengthy after effects, itself. It's reasonable to think you're a slow metabolizer, in which case the acute effects should wear off soon, but after-effects have been known to last for 2 weeks+ after the experience in some folks, even without that problem. Think of it as getting bonus high time, treat yourself well, and take it easy.

DXM has a deceptively long half life in the body, it's not unusual to feel slightly strange for about a week after a trip, more if you are a poor metaboliser or like doing more than about a gram.
It's not a sign of permanent damage - generally it fades away to imperceptibility after a month at most. Just don't fixate on it or it will almost certainly become a problem for you.

Thanks a lot for the replies, you've done a lot for calming me down. :) I wish I had done more research before attempting this; perhaps dissociatives aren't for me.

For me dxm has caused permanent visual damage. be careful....very careful. At first i had no problem but every time i triped it lasted longer and longer. I would sometimes take it two or three times a week. i ended up after tripping an ungodly amount of time having visuals all the time. Psychedelics do not have this problem. be safe and dont continue to take it if you start having the same issues i had. its not real fun.

Yeah, this is the kind of thing that worries me. I'm not going to take it again, I just hope that nothing went wrong this time! I'm not sure how possible it is to cause damage with a 450mg dose, but I guess anything is possible, especially if I have a CYP2D6 deficiency.

I think everything's getting better aside from the visuals and a minor headache, thankfully. Pupils are looking fine. I'm hoping the visuals will go away over this following week...

really? this bothers you ? i like the after effects of dxm as much as i like the trip itself.... its blissful euphoric retardation

Yep, because I don't have any of the good parts. :) I just have a headache, weirdo pupils and visuals that make it hard to read. Maybe if the bliss or euphoria was included I wouldn't mind. The only thing that's really distressing me is that it's taken a lot longer to get out of my system than I thought; and it is possible it indicates damage. :S

no damage, you can be certain about that just like other people have mentioned before dxm tends to linger ... also if you wouldn't have worried so much about this thing you could have probably enjoyed it. The day after a dexful night i go out into town, drink a few beers (very nice with after dxm effects) socialize with people go for walks in random directions listening t music. The absent mindset gives everything a very "comfortably numbed" feel, its not so much euphoria as it is experiencing this world without your every-day worries. Let the numbness do its thing. I sometimes get the feeling that i am not a part of time, and that everyone is fast forwarding while i sit back and enjoy a pause from time

Days-long lingering effects of DXM seems to be pretty common; it certainly applied to me. Minor visuals, light sensitivity, that "not-so-sharp" feeling, etc. could last a while and were exacerbated by other psychoactives. It's the primary reason why I stopped taking DXM recreationally. (In college it wasn't a huge deal to be slightly dissociated all the time, but I couldn't swing that shit in grad school. :) )

dunno if it's been said, but of course -- make sure you eat a healthy amount and drink plenty of fluids while recovering from DXM

the afterglow can sort of kill your appetite, but food is essential to recovery

since the NMDA receptor is a sub-type of the glutamate receptor, and DXM is an NMDA antagonist.... i wonder if Chinese food would help in DXM recovery, since its loaded with Glutamate (MSG = Mono-Sodium Glutamate)

random thought, no idea if the logic behind it is sound =p

I felt great yesterday, but I feel like its actually got worse today. We're at nine days, & I really hope this is over soon, but I also welcome the excuse to eat a lot of chinese food.
