Songs about drugs that no one knows are about drugs.

from the album 100th window

this is a Song about drugs I didnt know was secretly about drugs for months and months of listening to it :o :D
Small time shot away.....
it's massive attack so its so low the lyrics are always subliminal until you accidentally come across the lyrics somewhere.i actually couldnt believe it(!! ) when i read these lyrics..they seem so specific for a song,as though it were about some couple&their drug relationship in particular, rather than about i.v. using couples universally.

someone else tell me what they think? im totally interested in the dynamics in relationships where drugs and needles are involved. the rituals, the roles, interaction, whats shared and whats not.the crazy parts. the sexuality.
because i dont know any other needle-user who has a girlfriend or boyfriend(they're all single); i only have my own experiences with my lover to draw on, &i wonder how complex the relationship btwn two i.v.-users can get&how much it can differ from another relationship........
this song made me shocked to think that maybe, all drug/love-partnerships follow the same particular type of patterns.

this song is a bit special, anyway :)
listen to it through your headphones people, for the intricacies because it sounds not only ten times better than on regular shitty speakers, but like an entirely different song.it can sometimes feel almost too intimate or invasive the way the quiet sounds of it creep all the way into your ears and hide inside you, like theyre playing from in there.
here it goes->

Took her in
Dropped a line
Turned me on
(I travel I travel)
We never leave each other 'cause we leave each other so cold
Makes it melt away

The easy part is taking yourself in
It’s wartime every time
Shot away

Wipe the smile from your face
It’s getting in the way
It’s wartime every time
She cut me a line and she turned me on
She made it cool
You couldn’t do it if you wanted to
(Believe me believe me)

It’s wartime every time
Small talk every time
It’s my favourite chloroform
It’s pill talk every time
Get it out the way
Friction wound
Shot away

Ricochet
We're like identical twins
Sucking on the same teat
Spitting out the same things
(I travel far, I travel far)
It’s wartime every time
Small talk every time
It’s my favourite chloroform
It’s pillow talk every time
Get it out the way
Friction wound
Ricochet

Line’em up and knock’em down
Shot away
A shot away
A shot away
A shot away

sorry if this has been said already...this thread is so long! :)

311 - homebrew

(chorus)
Fourth of July with Lucy in Sky
I remember pine trees and the coat of many colors
I was nineteen
I'd do anything
Shit like that now scares me but I'd like to do it again
It was Independence day
I've seen the other side and I say
I've been insane
And I won't ever be the same

Yeah no one will ever believe me that that songs about acid. Some of the other lyrics mentions tabs too:

I'm a flicka flacka blotter ya try to find a weakness
But the shit keeps gettin harder

Does anyone know if "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails is about drugs.

I haven't heard it in a while, but i thought someone told me it was heroin related... I'm not sure though.

Johnny Cash did a remake of it too.

It's about Trent's heroin addiction... Johnny Cash did a remake because he claimed it was "the best anti-drug song" he had ever heard. He struggled with amphetamine and alcohol addiction so I guess that justifies his remix though I still think he butchered it.

Lines from "Hurt" that pertain to heroin/drugs:

"The needle tears a hole, the old familiar sting" (this line was cut in Johnny Cash's version of the song)

"And you can have it all, my empire of dirt"

No it wasn't. Have you even heard the song? The line is as clear as day.

Sorry about that, I don't know how I got that mixed up. And yes, I have heard the song. How else could I possibly form the opinion that he butchered Reznor's song?

Comfortably Numb

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts,
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

he asked how u know its h as opposed to some other iv opiate

I'm surprised people mentioned A Perfect Circle's "The Package" but no one mentioned "Weak and Powerless" (unless I missed it)....

"Shove another dragon down the hole"

"Someone feed the monkey / while I dig in search of china / white as dracula as I approach the bottom"

"So desparate and ravenous / so weak and powerless over you" <--- "You" being Heroin.

"Little Angel go away / come again some other day / devil has my ear today / I'll never hear a word you say / promised me some solace and some peace of mind / whatever, just as long as I don't feel so..." <---- obviously about H addiction.

I also think "There She Goes" by The Lah's is about a rush of somekind (probaby IV coke).

I have reason to believe that "The Piano" by Enigma is about opiates, but I could be wrong, since it has no lyrics :P.

I think all songs by Mindless Self Indulgence are about meth in one way or another :D.

Many, many Nirvana songs are about opiates and addiction, obviously..

Johnny Cash struggled with amphetamine addiction as well as barbituates and painkillers.. "Cash" by Johnny Cash is one of my favorite books. It is an excellent book..

If you wanna read some insane drug stories, I recommend Anthony Kiedis' autobiography "Scar Tissue" - Another song that alludes to addiction ("blood loss in a bathroom stall") and recovery.. Then again RHCP has a lot of songs about drugs...

I disagree with the person who said that "Spoonman" by Soundgarden is about drugs. It's about a Seattle sidewalk-performing legend Artis the Spoonman.. I mean the dude even plays the spoons in the song. I don't really see any lyrics in that song that would suggest drug use.

I'm surprised no one has said "Jane Says" by Jane's Addiction .. of course, a lot of their songs are about heroin. Hell, even their band name is a heroin reference to a girl they used to live with who struggled with addiction, much like the members of the band.

Feel the rhythm with your hands, steal the rhythm while you can....

Yep, that is what the track is truely about.

Actually, the first month I moved to Seattle (1997) I was downtown at Pike's Place walking towards the famous Starbuck's there and guess who I saw performing right in front on the sidewalk?? The one and only SPOONMAN who inspired the song! I guess that was one of his trademarked gig locations but I just got lucky that morning.

It was a completely surreal occasion, but once I realized it was THE spoonman, I immediately got close and listened to the remainder of his set. The craziest part about it was that towards the end of his performance, he was so zoned and possessed by his music and he was rapping his spoons so forcefully against his body and face that eventually he slashed himself across the cheek with the edge of the spoon resulting in a huge bloody gash that began oozing down his face into his mouth. The injury became so drastic that he stopped his spoons completely, grabbed his stuff, bid the few people who had gathered to watch a brief farewell, and then he was gone.

Desperate and Lonely...... WOW! Nice job...I didnt even put that one together...This is the idea of the thread, I think I posted incorrectly earlier. Perhaps the wording of the thread title is confusing....Or maybe I am just an idjit....LOL

Ahh, noone has said "station to station" by David Bowie
It is about how he would be up so long on cocaine that he would be so delusional to the point of almost insanity, and he weighed at one point 108 pounds.
[and mind you, he is almost 6 feet tall]

I love that song.

seether - remedy

Throw your dollar bills and leave your thrills all here with me
And speak but don't pretend I won't defend you anymore you see
It aches in every bone

Frail, the skin is dry and pale, the pain will never fail
And so we go back to the remedy
Clip the wings that get you high, just leave them where they lie
And tell yourself, "You'll be the death of me"
