I know too many people who have done really well to kick a heroin habit, but felt so empty I suppose that they've replaced it with meth. I like the rush, hate the drug, its effects and comedown. It is so much worse for you than heroin, I often think the people I know would be better off if they'd stayed on heroin. If only it was a legitimate maintenance option, these people wouldn't have ruined their lives.

agreed meth is far worse than opiates even smack!permant damage to your dopamine recptors plus a hell of a price and a hell of a comdown!
 
Opiates aren't even that bad on your body. Most of the damage comes from secondary effects of the usage, not the opiate itself imo.
Pretty sure that's allowed by the way, it's not like he mentioned how much he paid, all he's saying is he got free drugs. 'Get free drugs' should be in the BLUA.

I've heard that there are actually people who live in the Golden Triangle where a lot of opium is (or at least used to be) grown, who are on 100% pure heroin daily with almost NO health problems. The majority of heroin problems come from the lifestyle associated with addiction.

Having said that - I don't get opiates. I've tried pretty muc every pharmaceutical opiate, and yeah okay it feels 'nice' but NOWHERE near the 'Trainspotting' 100 orgasms descriptions i've heard everywhere. I recenty did a STUPID dose of Ocycodone and didn't get any nod or any heavy sedation - as i said it was nice, but nothing i would rush back to do again. Is it just me? Or is Heroin HEAPS better than all the pharms? (Ocy, Tramadol, Fentanyl, Suboxone, etc)

I'm gonna go read the meth forum now.... now THERE is a fun drug :)

WarChild I'm with you though. Even though I do opies every day now, in my mind they'll never compare to meth. Granted I've never banged...maybe that's the difference.

The first opiate I tried was heroin then oxy, and I was completely unimpressed with both. It actually took using codeine for me to ever experience pleasure from opioids. After that I was able to appreciate heroin and oxy a lot more. That, and discovering anti histamines, because I get killer nausea if I don't use them.

Even so, I'd much rather use meth, but frequent use is just unsustainable in the long term, and it's so addictive (to me anyway) that using once would lead me straight back to every day.

each to their own i guess. meth isn't worth the trouble for me, but i adore opium, specifically pod tea.
heavy doses of pharm opies aren't really my bag either, as i prefer a functional euphoric high to a major nod. that's just me though - the appeal of each drug varies for everyone i reckon.
i agree that opiates don't seem terribly damaging. maybe the user's digestive function/system suffers. maybe addicts immune systems are weakened.
but this could be said for a lot of drugs. many drugs do far worse - benzos, alcohol, amphetamines can be really bad for your liver, your brain and/or your heart.
most of the harms and degrading things we have come to associate with opiate addiction are definitely caused by prohibition.
it makes heroin/opiates sourced on the black market ridiculously expensive, which can trap people into shitty situations to get money (crime, scams, sex work, etc) as well as pay less attention to their health and nutrition due to the effort and expense of just staying 'well' and 'normal', let alone high.
as halif so eloquently articulated in the codeine thread, being a regular or habitual opiate user is a high maintenance drug choice.
if it's not your bag, count yourself as one of the lucky ones :)
 
See, I still use meth occasionally as well as using heroin. With the gear diminishing my sex drive to non existant and the heroin replacing a sexual partner, rather satisfactorily; a shot of ice every now and then allows me to experience my sex drive that the the opiates keep quiet, further stimulated by the methamphetamine (with regard to speed making me horny) I get to experience sexuality for a change.

Also, it distracts from heroin / low doses of buprenorphine (Suboxone 2mg tablets) when trying to kick or reducing your use. And I always keep benzos on hand for after I get on the speed, the comedown especially if you're kicking opiates is hell.

Funnily enough I am badly allergic to Codiene - it gives me severe stomach cramps and i need hospitalisation. So perhaps that means my opiate receptors are fucked up, explaining why i don't enjoy other opiates?? Hmmm the doctor that first ID'ed my allergy said a lot of people have an allergy to any one opiate/opiode but not others. Also strange.

Feel like I DO have to mention though - one of my best ever highs was a large dose of Oxycodene and good quality Coke together - WOAH THAT was absolutely mindblowing.
